Lausanne, Switzerland, March 1, 2020 – The opposite of the Polish national team, Maciej Muzaj, is playing his first club season abroad and what a season it has been so far! As a member of Gazprom-Ugra Surgut, the 25-year-old athlete has been by far the best scorer of the Russian Superliga, with one leg to go through the end of the regular season.
On Saturday, Muzaj hit a new personal high and not only reached beyond the 400-point mark, but also scored the highest number of points in a single match since the start of the season. At a total of 416 points (380 spikes, 25 blocks, 11 aces), the 2.08m-tall Pole stands 96 points (!) clear of the second best in the Superliga ranking, German standout Gyorgy Grozer of Zenit Saint Petersburg. Muzaj also tops the individual chart on points per set with an average of 5.55.
Having already medalled three times as a player of the Polish national team in 2019 – silver at the FIVB World Cup, bronze at the FIVB Volleyball Nations League and bronze at the CEV European Championship – Muzaj seems to be in great shape a few weeks ahead of the start of the new national team season, where Poland is set to undertake another VNL campaign before heading to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Number 5. November 2, 2019. Gazprom-Ugra lose at home to Dinamo Moscow in four sets. Muzaj scores 31 points, of which 29 spikes at a 50.00% success rate and two stuff blocks.
Number 4. February 15, 2020. Gazprom-Ugra lose away in five sets at ASK Nizhny Novgorod. The opposite scores 32 points, of which 31 spikes at a success rate of 57.41% and one block.

Number 3. November 9, 2019. Gazprom-Ugra win in five sets at Ural Ufa. The Polish international scores 32 points, of which 29 spikes at a success rate of 46.77%, two blocks and one ace.
Number 2. November 30, 2019. Gazprom-Ugra win in five sets at Ugra-Samotlor Nizhnevartovsk. Muzaj scores 32 points, of which 29 spikes at a 59.18% success rate, one kill block and two aces.
Number 1. February 29, 2020. Gazprom-Ugra lose at home to Fakel Novy Urengoy in five sets. Maciej Muzaj hammers out as many as 34 points – 31 in attack at 50.82%, two blocks, one aces.
