Watch James Tarkowski’s wild challenge on Jarrod Bowen that left David Moyes fuming at VAR cock-up

WEST HAM manager David Moyes fumed at another VAR cock-up and asked: What excuse will ref chiefs give now?

Jay Rodriguez scored his seventh Premier League goal of the season as Burnley celebrated their first top-flight double over relegation-threatened Hammers for 73 years.

Yet Moyes was unhappy Burnley defender James Tarkowski was only cautioned for a dangerous and high tackle on Jarrod Bowen.

The Scot felt VAR should have intervened and he said: “It’s a red card.

“It’s not going to change the result now. But it might have done during the game.

“It’s really disappointing the referee didn’t see it as a red. The linesman is very close to it.

“And we also have the chance to go to VAR and then make a decision on it.”

West Ham have written several times to the PGMOL demanding answers for disallowed goals and incidents that have gone against them.

Hammers vice-chairman Karren Brady urged the Prem to ditch the VAR experiment in her explosive SunSport column last weekend.

Moyes added: “Dear knows what answer I am going to get if we ask for clarity on it.

“It’s right that it is brought up and asked why it was not given. We have questioned quite a few decisions recently.

“There was the handball at Tottenham, the goal against Chelsea.

“We have had responses back, which we don’t agree with.

“And I am guessing I probably won’t agree with the response I get back when they tell me the reason why they didn’t give it a red card.

“I’m hoping in the last four games something will go our way which it hasn’t done so until now.”

Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope was named man-of-the-man for a string of excellent saves as he enjoyed a 14th clean sheet of a brilliant league campaign.

The England stopper said: “Fourteen sounds good. I’m really, really pleased.

“It’s a total we want to build on. It’s a great achievement for a team which is not a so-called not top six team.

“We have a good opportunity to get more. We have stuff to play for.

“Right from the front we defend properly. The lads ran until they couldn’t run anymore. It gives the defenders and me in goal so much confidence.

“They put their bodies on the line. It was an aerial assault at times.”

The Clarets moved above Tottenham into ninth place and have an excellent chance of securing their place in the Europa League next season.

Boss Sean Dyche said: “There is a resilience, honesty and respect to this group. And then you add in organisation and a physical prowess.

“They have more talent than sometimes people mention. It’s a good mixture.

“They had golden chances and the keeper saved the day when needed.

“We have a group here, and a culture and environment, which we believe in.

“It’s about that respect and commitment to the cause. It’s in abundance here.

“Players don’t turn their backs here. That is a golden thing for their defending. And we get our rewards by keeping clean sheets.”
