Watch Chelsea star Billy Gilmour’s ‘filthy’ nutmeg which ‘retired’ Liverpool’s Fabinho in the FA Cup clash

BILLY GILMOUR put in a man-of-the-match display for Chelsea against Liverpool – and he made a mug of Fabinho with a megs.

Goals from Willian and Ross Barkley gave the Blues a 2-0 win but it was 5ft 6in Gilmour who made the biggest impression on fans at the Bridge with his impudent bit of skill.

The teenager’s performance received plenty of plaudits on social media, and fans particularly enjoyed his nutmeg on Liverpool midfielder Fabinho.

“Gilmour just sent Fabinho back to Monaco,” said one fan.

“Billy Gilmour aged 18 just bossed the world, European and soon to be Premier League champions,” said another.

The teenager broke into a smile when asked about the nutmeg after the game.

Asked about the moment, Gilmour replied: ‘I think I know which one you’re talking about.

“The pass to Giroud, yeah? That’s football isn’t it… you have to go past players.”

Also among the Chelsea fans taking to social media to discuss the 18-year-old Scot’s assured display was former Stamford Bridge favourite and Gilmour’s hero Cesc Fabregas.

The ex-Rangers academy star also earned praise from Chelsea manager Frank Lampard for his control and creativity at the base of the midfield.

Lampard said: “What an incredible performance for a young player.

“He was a calm head in that first five or 10 minutes.

“He’s only slight in stature but he’s huge in personality.

“He deserves people to talk about him after a performance like that.”

Gilmour was making just his sixth first-team appearance this season but his display will likely have impressed attending Scotland manager Steve Clarke, as he prepares to select his squad for the Euro 2020 play-off matches at the end of this month.
