Sir Alex Ferguson drives into Man Utd training with wife Cathy as Solskjaer and Co report early ahead of Everton clash

SIR ALEX FERGUSON drove to Manchester United training with wife Cathy on Friday morning ahead of his old side’s clash with Everton.

The Old Trafford legend, 78 – who won 13 league titles for the club – drove his Mercedes-Benz to Carrington just hours after they had beaten Club Brugge in the Europa League.

Last year, Everton battered United 4-0 at Goodison Park – with Solskjaer calling it the “lowest” he’s ever been.

And Fergie may well have been roped in to rally the troops to ensure that sort of utterly woeful performance is never seen again.

Goals from Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Lucas Digne and Theo Walcott humiliated United in April last year as Solskjaer’s red-hot start to life at the club quickly fizzled out.

Looking back at last season’s thumping defeat, Solskjaer recalled his pain after being ripped to shreds for 90 minutes.

The United chief said: “That was the lowest I’ve been. I think you all know that and remember that.

“That was a capitulation. We had absolutely nothing about us, even though their goals were more or less counter-attacks from set plays and long throw-ins.

“Everything you didn’t want to see you saw in that game. Against Everton at home, they’re hard to play against with two up front.

“They put players in the box and we knew what we were up against.”

But Solskjaer was in defiant mood, claiming there is now way his side will give up like that this time around.

The Norwegian roared: “I’m 100 per cent sure we’ll put [in] a better performance.”

And Solskjaer turned up for training early on Friday morning as he prepared to put in some hard graft ahead of Sunday afternoon’s game.

Elsewhere, the likes of Odion Ighalo – fresh from his first United goal against Club Brugge – and two-goal hero Fred were spotted arriving at the Aon Training Complex.

Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay also drove themselves to training, while Paul Pogba hitched a ride in a black Mercedes people carrier.
