Sergio Aguero has scored as many Man City goals as Wayne Rooney did for Man Utd – but how do they compare?

SERGIO AGUERO has now scored as many goals for Manchester City as Wayne Rooney did for Manchester United.

The Argentina and City striker’s opener against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup final took him level with Rooney on 253 goals for the Manchester clubs.

Aguero, 31, moved to the Etihad from Atletico Madrid nine years ago and has already matched Rooney’s goals tally in nearly 200 fewer matches.

The Argentine machine has hit his 253 in just 366 games compared to the Englishman’s 559.

Aguero smashed Thierry Henry’s record as the Prem’s top all-time foreign goal-scorer with a hat-trick in his side’s 6-1 demolition of Villa in January.

And he pipped Rooney for scoring in the most opening league games with a six-game scoring streak at the start of this season.

No player has registered in each of the opening six games of a Prem campaign before with Rooney and Jose Antonio Reyes sharing the previous best.

In 2011, Rooney bagged nine in five for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side including two hat-tricks – versus Arsenal and Bolton.

But the former Red Devil, who spent 13 years at the club, is still ahead of Aguero on Premier League goals.

He has netted 183 for United – three more than Aguero – and is the second highest all time Prem goal-scorer with 208 in total, which include the goals he scored in his two spells at Everton.

Both are top scorers for the Manchester clubs.

And the City ace is hot on his tail in fourth position on the Premier League all-time leading scorers list after overtaking Frank Lampard thanks his hattrick against the Villains two months ago.

Alan Shearer tops the table with 260 goals in total followed by Rooney on 208 then Andrew Cole with 187.
