FORMER Blackburn skipper Tim Sherwood has revealed how one lenient referee played a role in helping Rovers pip Manchester United to the Premier League title in 1995.
Kenny Dalglish’s side lifted the league championship on the last day of the season despite suffering a defeat away at Liverpool as West Ham held the Red Devils to a 1-1 draw.

Blackburn won the title by just a point – stopping Sir Alex Ferguson’s men from claiming their third consecutive top-flight triumph.
And Sherwood has claimed how it could have been a different story if one referee decided not to show him leniency.
The ex-Tottenham boss has revealed how he knew in one game that he should have been sent off for a second yellow card for a deliberate handball.
Sherwood has failed to disclose who were his opponents and the name of the official in charge in an interview with the Daily Mail.
Recalling the moment he ran over to the referee as he was approaching for his cards, he said: “If you send me off, you’re going to shatter my dreams.”
He then alleged that the referee then moved his hand away from his pocket, where he reportedly told the midfielder: “You owe me one.”
News of that incident will likely not go down well with Ferguson, who guided United to 13 Premier League titles before he retired in 2013.

Sherwood then went on to detail the advice he received from the legendary Scotsman after he took over at Spurs in 2013.
He added: “I spoke to him. He told me, ‘you play two games a week as a manager – one is the press conference and the other is a football match. Sometimes it’s just as important to win the conference as it is the match.’
“He was right. But I didn’t grasp that one.”
