What is the Golden Boot award?

The Premier League Golden Boot is an annual FA award that is presented to the highest goalscorer in the Premier League for that season.

In addition to the award, players are usually given £1,000 for every goal scored in order to donate to a charity of their choice.

Previous years have seen players like Robin Van Persie, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Dwight Yorke.

Thierry Henry currently has the most Golden Boots, having won the award on four occasions.

Vardy netted his 100th Premier League goal against Crystal Palace and has since teed off, shooting to the top of the Golden Boot rankings.

As the current league leading striker, he’s odds-on to collect the award but will have to stave off stiff competition.

The Arsenal forward has some tough fixtures over the next few weeks, but that won’t stop him for giving it his all to surpass Vardy.

Having to play Tottenham and Liverpool will prove difficult but relegation threatened Aston Villa and Watford may be where he can tally up a few more goals.

3. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

  • Goals: 19
  • Odds with Ladbrokes: 4/1

Salah is motivated to win the Golden Boot again after winning the past two, sharing last seasons with Sadio Mane and Aubameyang.

His reign may be coming to an end but he won’t go down without a fight as he’s made his determination clear with a recent goal against Brighton.

4. Danny Ings (Burnley)

The Burnley frontman has recently confessed that he’s hooked on scoring goals, and with five games to go he’ll take all the chances he can get.

Currently one behind the current Golden Boot holder, he credits having time to recover during lockdown.

The in-form striker has put himself back into England contention and has scored three in the last four matches since the restart.

5. Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

  • Goals: 16
  • Odds: N/A

Aguero is now out for the rest of the season with an injury so is sadly out of the running this campaign.

The Argentinian is fighting to be fit for City’s Champions League clash but his knee injury has meant that his goal scoring in the PL will have to wait until next season.

6. Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

  • Age: 28
  • Appearances: 31

  • Odds: 33/1

The Senegalese forward was a key part of Liverpool’s Premier League title success.

Whilst he sits in sixth place on these rankings, he’s also assisted 7 goals and with Aguero out for the rest of the season he could jump up in the goal scoring ranks.
