Premier League fans expected back in October… and these are fixtures for first weekend including Man Utd vs Tottenham

MANCHESTER UNITED versus Tottenham could be one of the first matches to welcome fans back into stadiums.

The Premier League fixtures for 2020-21 were announced on Thursday morning.

And with the Government recently revealing supporters could be allowed back inside stadiums in October, it is now possible to see which matches could be first to have bums on seats again.

Trials allowing some fans back in stadiums will be tested next month ahead of a planned full rollout in October.

Spectators will be made to sign up to a new code of behaviour.

And strict crowd management plans will be enforced with one-way entry and exit as well as staggered arrival times.

Seating will be socially distanced and hand washing and sanitiser stations set up.

But no trials are scheduled for the North West, which remains under stricter control, meaning Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool are among the clubs which COULD welcome fans back later than the rest of the nation.

There are currently ten matches slated for Saturday October 3 at 3pm.

All times and dates are subject to change, with those fixtures likely to be spread between Friday October 2 and Monday October 5.

However, it’s likely the matchweek four games will be the first available opportunity to welcome fans back to grounds.

That means Man Utd vs Spurs could be among the first matches to allow fans into the ground.

Of course, Old Trafford will have nowhere near its 76,000 capacity, with the Government insisting social distancing measures will be enforced following test events, limiting the number of fans allowed in.

Arsenal also host Sheffield United that weekend, while Aston Villa welcome champions Liverpool.

Crystal Palace face a trip to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea, while Brighton head to Merseyside to play Everton.

Leeds host Man City, Leicester welcome West Ham, Newcastle play Burnley, Southampton take on West Brom and Wolves tackle Fulham.

Last week, Boris Johnson announced the news about allowing fans back into stadiums.

The Prime Minister said: “At every stage I have said our plan to reopen society and the economy is conditional.

“Today we are able to announce some further changes which will allow more people to return to work and the public to get back to more of the things they have missed.

“However, as I have always said, we will not hesitate to put on the brakes if required, or to continue to implement local measures to help to control the spread of the virus.”

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden added: “The nation’s hard work to keep the virus under control means we can now make further careful progress.

“We must all continue to Stay Alert but today’s welcome news means these organisations can finally get going safely, and we can enjoy more of the things we love as a nation.”
