Paul Pogba translated Solskjaer’s instructions for Cavani before Man Utd new-boy made Premier League debut vs Chelsea

PAUL POGBA became ‘the translator’ as he helped Edinson Cavani understand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s instructions ahead of the Uruguayan’s Manchester United debut.

The striker came on with 32 minutes left against Chelsea as United looked for a breakthrough in the goalless stalemate.

But the free transfer signing from Paris Saint-Germain was unable to break the deadlock after replacing Dan James.

However, it emerged that Frenchman Pogba used his bilingual skills to communicate exactly what Solskjaer wanted from the 33-year-old South American.

Pogba, 27, like Cavani was a sub for yesterday’s Premier League encounter at Old Trafford.

Just before Cavani came on, Pogba was seen explaining to the striker.

It is not known if they were communicating in French as Spanish-speaking Cavani picked up some of that language during his seven years in Paris.

Cavani has very limited English – and doesn’t speak any Norwegian!

The pair were huddled around Solskjaer as the Norwegian struggled to get his message across.

Cavani impressed in his short cameo but was unable to get a goal on his debut.

The Uruguay international arrived at Old Trafford just before the transfer deadline ended.

He had been available since May after his PSG contract ended.

The former Napoli forward signed a two-year deal at Old Trafford believed to be worth £210,000-a-week.

Cavani is set to be back on the bench for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig.

Pogba could start in that one.

Solskjaer might have to look for help from Juan Mata next time.

The Spaniard started the clash with the Blues but could find himself on the bench with Cavani in midweek.
