Norwich defender Ben Godfrey wanted by Borussia Dortmund and Leipzig as Germans eye shock £25m transfer swoop

NORWICH centre-back Ben Godfrey is a summer target for Bundesliga duo Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.

The England Under-21 star, valued at £25million, has also attracted interest from Premier League clubs including Tottenham, despite a tough season at Carrow Road.

Godfrey, who has also had previous admirers such as Liverpool, Arsenal and French outfit Lyon, has played in 25 of Norwich’s 33 Prem games this season.

And, despite the Canaries being rock-bottom of the top-flight, Godfrey has impressed in his debut Prem season for Daniel Farke’s side and the club could cash in if they drop into the Championship.

Both Bundesliga clubs have been watching Godfrey for a number of months and German Farke has good connections in the country, particularly at Dortmund where he was the manager of the reserve side in 2015-17 before moving to Norwich.

Despite a lack of experience at the highest level, the defender, 22, has shown leadership skills for club and country, captaining Farke’s Canaries as well as the Three Lions cubs against Kosovo last September.

Germany has become a hotbed for young British talent following the success of Jadon Sancho.

Jonjoe Kenny, Ethan Ampadu, Rabbi Matondo and Ademola Lookman have all had a stint in the Bundesliga with Birmingham’s 17-year-old Jude Bellingham the latest starlet ready to make the move with a £20.7million fee agreed with Dortmund.

Godfrey, who has a contract until 2023, began his career at York before joining Norwich in 2016 and is tipped by Farke to go right to the top of the game.
