Newcastle to make bid for Jarrod Bowen as they join Leeds in transfer race for £22m Hull star

STEVE BRUCE is ready to step into the race for Hull striker Jarrod Bowen to stop his Newcastle side being sucked into the relegation dogfight.

Toon can nip in ahead of Leeds and make a £22m bid for the 17-goal hitman as boss Bruce looks for more firepower for his struggling side.

Bruce had talks with owner Mike Ashley earlier this week to try and get some cash to bring in new signings.

Toon spent £40m on Hoffenheim striker Joelinton in the summer, but he has only scored twice and recently went over 20 games without a goal until, he broke his duck against Rochdale in the FA Cup replay in the week.

Previous boss Rafa Benitez also splashed out a then club record £20.7m fee on Miguel Almiron but he has only just started scoring after a year-long goal drought.
Bruce has Andy Carroll at his disposal but the 31-year-old injury-prone striker will never be the 15 goals a season man the Toon boss needs to stave off the drop.

Promotion-chasing Leeds are also in the hunt for Bowen, with Hull looking likely to sell their star man to bring in much-needed funds.

The 23-year-old striker bagged 22 goals last season and is looking set to break that tally comfortably this time around.
Toon have also been linked with RB Leipzig’s former Everton winger Ademola Lookman and Inter Milan winger Valentino Lazarol, claim the Daily Telegraph.

The Tigers swooped for Barnsley attacked Mallik Wilks in a loan deal so could be covering themselves to lose Bowen.

His goals have pushed City into 11th, but just three points off the play-offs heading into the weekend’s matches.

Toon meanwhile are just five points off the drop zone and Bruce needs goals to get the side into mid-table safety.
