Maurizio Sarri’s wife tells him he is ‘still the same d***head’ at Juventus as he was at Chelsea

JUVENTUS boss Maurizio Sarri has joked that his wife still thinks he is the “same d***head as before”.

The 61-year-old’s Juve side are “winter champions” in Serie A – leading at the halfway stage of the season in Italy.

But this achievement clearly isn’t enough to impress his wife.

With previous leaders Inter Milan falling to a 1-1 draw at home to Atalanta on Saturday night, Juventus were given the opportunity to leapfrog their former manager Antonio Conte’s side.

And they did just that, winning a potentially tricky match 2-1 away at Roma, thanks to goals from Merih Demiral and Cristiano Ronaldo.

But asked about the title of “winter champions” after the match, Sarri was in mischievous mood.

The former Chelsea boss said: “Winter Champions? My wife tells me that I am the same d***head as before.

“I was twice winter champion with Napoli without ever winning the Scudetto.

“I came to the conclusion, not to listen to the statistics.”

In the 2017-18 season, Sarri’s Napoli side had fought a hotly-contested title battle with Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus.

At the halfway stage, Napoli were “winter champions” with a remarkable 48 points from their first 19 games.

They were a point above Allegri’s men.

But Napoli couldn’t quite sustain this form, and to many neutrals’ dismay ended up losing out on the title by four points – and Sarri then jumped ship for Chelsea.

Now, bolstered by Ronaldo, Sarri seeks to win his first ever major league title in management.

But history would suggest that there is a long way to go.
