Bailly was an unused substitute for United’s 4-1 win over Newcastle in the league.

And he sat out of Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

United have now confirmed that he has been ruled out for three to four weeks.

Solskjaer said: “Eric has a muscle injury, we think maybe three or four weeks, maybe after the international break he’ll be back.”

Bailly’s time at Old Trafford has been plagued by injuries since he arrived from Villarreal in 2016.

He has missed more than 300 days with knee and ankle issues.

Solskjaer is also sweating over the fitness of Harry Maguire ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Chelsea.

England star Maguire also missed Tuesday’s dramatic win over PSG.

Solskjaer started with a back three of Axel Tuanzebe, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw.

Tuanzebe in particular received rave reviews after he managed to keep a lid on Kylian Mbappe.

After the match, Solskjaer said: “Victor and Axel are our central defenders and played tremendous.

“But Luke Shaw, normally a full-back, defender really well as a centre-back.

“I’ve got no issues at all [in defence]. I’m very happy with my players.”
