Man Utd joined by rivals City in transfer battle for Jack Grealish with Aston Villa ace eyed for Pep’s summer rebuild

MANCHESTER CITY boss Pep Guardiola want Jack Grealish as he plans a summer overhaul of his squad, according to reports.

Rivals Manchester United have also been keeping tabs on the Aston Villa midfielder, who has performed well since his side’s return to the Premier League.

Metro reports that Guardiola has resigned himself to losing the title to Liverpool and is already planning for the summer, with Grealish high on his wishlist.

The 24-year-old impressed despite his struggling side losing 3-0 to the Citizens earlier in the season and his performance did not go unnoticed.

After the game, Guardiola said: “He’s incredible. A top player. I’m happy he (initially) stayed in the Championship to defend his club. He’s a talented player who always creates something. An exceptional player but too expensive for Manchester!”

Grealish was helpless to prevent another heavy defeat for the Villans yesterday as a Sergio Aguero hat-trick inspired City to a 6-1 win.

But he will have plenty of suitors in the summer – especially if Villa go down.

His teammate Gabriel Agbonlahor has backed him for a move to Old Trafford, insisting Grealigh would ‘walk into United’.

He told Stadium Astro: ”Tottenham, he walks straight into. The Arsenal side, he walks straight into. I don’t think you can compare Giovani Lo Celso with Jack with how Jack’s playing, they’re different qualities he’s got to these sort of players.

”I think he walks into that United side, you’ve seen the troubles with Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata”.

Centre-back is a priority for City, who failed to replace legendary skipper Vincent Kompany before the start of the season.

Aymeric Laporte’s injury struggles have seen the depleted champions struggle at the back – conceding 14 more league goals than leaders Liverpool.
