Man Utd and England fans want Henderson as No1 as weekend gaffes confirm De Gea and Pickford as Prem’s dodgiest keepers

MANCHESTER UNITED and England fans have called for Dean Henderson to take over as their No1 goalkeeper.

David De Gea and Jordan Pickford have now made SEVEN errors leading to goals in the past two Premier League seasons – and fans have had enough.

De Gea’s sloppiness gifted Everton the lead after just three minutes of Sunday’s clash at Goodison Park.

After he received a back pass, the Spaniard’s clearance rebound off Dominic Calvert-Lewin and into the back of the net.

Just after the half hour mark, England No1 Pickford was at fault at the other end as Bruno Fernandes levelled the scoring.

The 25-year-old failed to react as the Portuguese star’s long-range shot flew past him and into the net.

No goalkeepers in the Premier League have made more blunders that have led to goals than them in the past two seasons.

But Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno and Newcastle star Martin Dubravka are level with them on seven.

Fans have called for Henderson to step up as the first-choice goalkeeper for club and country following his impressive spell between the sticks.

The 22-year-old, who is on loan at Sheffield United, has kept nine clean sheets and only made one mistake that has led to a goal this season.

Only Burnley’s Nick Pope and Liverpool star Alisson have racked up more clean sheets than him this term.

Henderson was called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the first time to replace injured Tom Heaton in October.

But he is yet to make an appearance for the senior squad after making 11 appearances for the Under-21s.

SunSport held a poll to find out whether United fans wanted to see Henderson replace De Gea as their No1 next term.

A whopping 58.13 per cent said yes, 19.38 per cent said no and 22.5 per cent would rather answer in May.

Speaking on Twitter after yesterday’s goalkeeping horror show, one fan said: “Someone please remind me again why David De Gea is still our No1 goalkeeper and why we have Dean Henderson playing for Sheffield United?”

Another added: “Dean Henderson should be No1 for Man Utd. De Gea is too sure about his place.”

And one user said: “Pickford isn’t good enough to be England No1, can’t keep making costly errors and then just pulling off one decent save at the end of games to make up for it, Dean Henderson is Mr Consistent and deserves it more.”

Solskjaer was quizzed after the 1-1 draw about whether Henderson could replace De Gea between the sticks permanently next term.

The under-fire United boss said: “We want the best possible squad for Man United and Dean’s our player.

“He’s doing really well at the moment and the day he comes back he’s obviously fighting to play here as well.

“But David’s shown his reaction, the way he made amends and saved Sigurdsson’s goal, or chance, at the end.

“David’s the best goalkeeper in the world, Dean is a very good challenger and then Sergio [Romero]’s a decent challenger as well.

“We want a squad full of quality and with competition and if you want to survive at the top you need to bounce off competitions from right, left and centre.

“He went through a difficult patch last season, definitely, but David’s been very, very good this season.

“I can’t really remember any errors I’d go to now, apart from Watford one [Ismaila Sarr’s goal].

“I trust David 100 per cent in the goal.”

It was reported earlier this month that Henderson only wants to return to Old Trafford next season if he is their first-choice keeper.
