Liverpool will win 2019-20 PL title ‘one way or another.. even if it’s in league offices’, says Uefa chief Ceferin

LIVERPOOL will win the 2019-20 Premier League title, according to Uefa chief Aleksander Ceferin – even if it’s in the office.

Ceferin says he “can’t imagine a scenario” where the Reds don’t clinch their first-ever Premier League crown.

Jurgen Klopp’s side sit 25 points at the top of the league, needing a maximum of two wins to seal the elusive title.

But with the crown all-but in their hands, all football came to a grinding halt after coronavirus spread around Europe at a worrying rate.

Ever since, dozens of ideas have been suggested as to how to conclude the season.

As well as declaring it null and void, others have suggested the campaign should be ended with all clubs awarded their current positions – as well as the potential for a 22-team league next term.

Fifa has already waived the usual June 1 deadline in which to finish the season, with the Premier League given the green light to play on well into the summer.

Now Ceferin has claimed he believes whatever happens, Liverpool will be awarded the title – even if it’s behind closed doors or even in the offices of Uefa.

‘LIVERPOOL CERTAINLY WIN THE TITLE’

The Uefa chief told Slovenian media: “I can’t see a way Liverpool could be left without a title.

“If the Premier League resumes play, Liverpool will almost certainly win the title.

“Theoretically it’s not all over, but practically Liverpool are on the verge of it.

“If by any chance the play will not resume, we still have to find a way to declare final results, to declare champions.

“And again I cannot see, I cannot imagine a scenario, in which the champions would not be Liverpool.

“I understand the fans will be disappointed if it happens in an empty stadium or even in the league offices, but I believe, they will get the title one way or another.”

Last week, Belgium called its top-flight season off entirely, awarding the league title to runaway leaders Club Brugge.

But Ceferin admitted Uefa currently have no concrete plans over how to finish the seasons.

He concluded: “I was speaking hypothetically. We will be ready for such scenarios, but we are not working on the details of them right now.

“Currently we are completely focused on bringing the competitions to the end on the fields of play.”
