And Liverpool are understood to have opened negotiations with Premier League rivals Wolves after sealing a £25m move for Bayern Munich ace Thiago Alcantara.

Fabrizio Romano adds that Jota’s agent Jorge Mendes has already been presented with a contract running until 2025, with personal terms yet to be agreed.

He notes Jota wants to play in the Champions League and is ready to swap the Midlands for Merseyside.

Liverpool are also ready to sweeten the deal by allowing Wolves to sign highly-rated young defender Ki-Jana Hoever.

Jota is now in line to become Klopp’s third signing of the summer after Thiago and Greek left-back Kostas Tsimikas, who joined for nearly £12m from Olympiakos last month.

Liverpool are eager to add another forward to their squad.

And Watford’s Ismaila Sarr was thought to be their top target to support Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

However, the Hornets were said to be demanding £36m for a player now in the Championship.

And it appears Klopp would rather spend that kind of cash on a proven Premier League star.

Jota scored an impressive 16 goals in 48 games for Wolves last season.

He has also won four caps for Portugal during his three years at Molineux, and a move to Liverpool is sure to boost his international chances further.
