Joe Hart set to be released by Burnley at end of June… but could still be involved against old club Man City on Monday

FORMER England star Joe Hart will leave Burnley on June 30 – but he could still be involved against old club Manchester City tomorrow.

The 33-year-old has been told his contract will not be renewed at Turf Moor at the end of the month.

But boss Sean Dyche has left it up to the veteran whether he wants to be on the bench at the Etihad.

That leaves Hart a free agent as he begins looking for a new club this summer.

The two-time Premier League winner was touted as one of the best goalkeepers in the world during his heyday.

But the 75-capped stopper’s career nosedived following the arrival of Pep Guardiola to City in 2016.

He was subsequently loaned to Torino in Italy and West Ham but failed to earn a permanent deal at either club.

Hart signed for Burnley in 2018 but the form of Nick Pope restricted his opportunities.

He has only played three cup games for the Clarets this season. Meanwhile, fellow out-of-contract players Phil Bardsley, Aaron Lennon, Jeff Hendrick and Adam Ledgzins look set to leave also at the end of the month.

Burnley chairman Mike Garlick spoke out at the start of the coronavirus pandemic of the challenges clubs like his faced financially over whether to restart the season.

Some teams have offered out of contract players a short-term extension to enable them to play for the rest of the campaign.

But with Burnley in no relegation trouble, they have opted to let their soon-to-be free agents depart early.
