Fury as footballer falls ASLEEP on bench after being subbed against Diego Maradona’s Gimnasia

NOT even Diego Maradona’s presence could entertain this footballer who fell ASLEEP on the bench in a game against the Argentine legend’s side.

Paraguay international Cecilio Dominguez played 60 minutes as CA Independiente crashed to a 1-0 defeat against Maradona’s Gimnasia Esgrima La Plata.

Dominguez, 25, has already struggled to win fans over since his relatively pricey £4.8million move from Mexican giants Club America last year.

And his latest antics last Saturday are certainly not helping his cause.

Moments after being subbed, the camera pans to Dominguez lying across the bench with his eyes shut and his arms crossed.

Argentine journalist Martin Liberman recently summed up his time at Independiente by writing: “His stay has left much to be desired at a price-to-product ratio, taking into account what was paid for him.”

And fans also vented their frustrations online with one saying: “And to think you have to pay to go watch him.”

Another added: “You cannot sleep on the pitch no matter how much partying you do. You wait 14 days to watch your club and you take a nap.”

Local media claim that this is the latest incident in a long line of tantrums and poor performances by the winger.

Dominguez has 11 caps for his country with his last one coming in November 2018.

Maradona’s side sit 20th, two points clear of relegation with two matches to play.
