Ex-Premier League boss Harry Redknapp dismisses Airdrie takeover talk in Scotland but remains keen on return to football

HARRY REDKNAPP wants a return to football but it WON’T be at Airdrie.

A report claims the English legend was involved in talks with the Scottish League One club’s co-owner Paul Hetherington to buy a controlling interest.

But while Redknapp confirmed to SunSport he’d had discussions with Hetherington he also LAUGHED off any possibility of taking over the Diamonds.

And the 73-year-old veteran manager – keen on a return to the game after three years out since being Birmingham City boss – emphatically made it clear the contact from the North Lanarkshire will not progress any further.

Redknapp said: “Ever since I said recently I fancied a return to football I’ve been inundated with hundreds of messages from clubs.

“I do like the idea of an involvement again from the football side of things – but I certainly won’t be putting money into a club.

“It’s true that I spoke with the Airdrie chairman and he seemed a decent fella. I was also impressed with what he had to say.

“But I’m certainly not trying to buy Airdrie – and I can honestly say that it won’t be going any further.”

Redknapp, who has recently starred in ITV’s Harry’s Heroes, continued: “I appreciated their interest.

“But there won’t be anything happening there.”

Ex-Bournemouth, West Ham, Portsmouth, Southampton and Spurs manager Redknapp added: “I’ve also been linked with the Nigeria job – and it’s fair to say that won’t be happening either.”
