Eibar vs Real Sociedad postponed over toxic pollution after landfill site collapses ‘killing two workers’

LA LIGA have postponed today’s clash between Eibar and Real Sociedad over fears of toxic pollution.

Reports in Spain claim a landfill site near Eibar’s stadium collapsed earlier this month, trapping two workers who are yet to be found and are presumed dead.

Fires have apparently released “high levels of chemical compounds in the air” around Eibar’s Ipurua Municipal Stadium.

And people have been recommended to “not perform outdoor sports activity” in the immediate area.

It’s reckoned toxin levels are a whopping FORTY times higher than normal.

And the local AP-8 highway has also been temporarily shut.

However, rain is scheduled for Monday, and it is hoped that will help clean the air.

Eibar and Sociedad apparently want to play the fixture as quickly as possible.

And La Liga could even allow it to be held in a different location away from any pollution fears.

Eibar are currently in a relegation battle near the bottom of the table.

They are 16th with just 24 points from 23 games, with just four points separating them from the drop zone.

Meanwhile, Sociedad are in contention for European football with 37 points collected so far.

They are just three points behind fourth-place Atletico Madrid and knocked title contenders Real out of the Copa del Rey earlier this month.
