The 31-year-old told fans of his desire to trim his barnet last week, as he claimed after three years of growing his hair, he wanted to embrace the “skin head” look.

Drinkwater started a Just Giving page were he announced money raised from him shaving his head will go towards the Salvation Army to help them during the Covid-19 crisis.

He said: “It has taken me 3 years of growth to get my hair to this length and believe it or not for me this is long!!

“I’ve not shaved my head since I was 25/26 so its been a long time since I had a full skin head but I want to do it for a bit of fun and a good cause, every little helps during these times of crisis.

“I have chosen The Salvation Army because they provide unconditional friendship, support and very practical help to people in need and work with children, older people and the homeless.

“I wanted any money to go to a charity that would help a number of people during the Covid 19 crisis as there will be so many suffering during these hard times.”

And Drinkwater stuck true to his word, as he uploaded the finish look on his Instagram story.

The England international – who disappointed on loan at Burnley before joining the Villans – has had a turbulent season on and off the pitch this season.

Drinkwater was attacked by six thugs outside of a nightclub in September after trying to bed another footballer’s lover, before he was involved in an altercation with Villa team-mate Diogo Jota where he allegedly headbutted him.

And to make matters worse, it has been said that his trendy restaurant has racked up debts of close to £2million in just a year.
