Cristiano Ronaldo’s luxury hotel opening in Madrid delayed due to coronavirus devastating Spanish city

CRISTIANO RONALDO will have to wait to open his new hotel in Madrid due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The planned grand opening of the Pestana CR7 Gran Via in the centre of the Spanish capital was scheduled for June.

But financial newspaper Invertia report on that being delayed due to the lockdown across the country drawing a halt to construction work.

Ronaldo’s Madrid venture will be his third hotel under the Pestana brand, joining venues in Lisbon and the Juventus star’s hometown of Funchal, Madeira.

The latest destination is set to boast 168 rooms, decorated to “recapture the best of Madrid’s golden era”.

There has yet been a statement from the hotel directors or 35-year-old forward confirming the postponement and it remains unclear when the new opening day will take place.

Spain remains under lockdown with latest figures confirming 110,238 positive tests for coronavirus in the country, leading to over 10,000 deaths.

During the pandemic, Ronaldo has flown out to the Portuguese island of Madeira with European football suspended.

The Juve player has made a number of donations to help fight the pandemic but was also subject of a hoax news report that his new Madrid hotel was to be converted into an emergency hospital.

And a local politician in Madeira claimed his account had been hacked after remarkably demanding “tramp” Ronaldo return to Italy for taking a family stroll during lockdown.

Rafael Macedo said he “would never make those low-level comments” following a post on his Facebook page that read: “I want that animal who’s come from Italy to stay at home. Get me that tramp out of Madeira.”
