Celtic want Gavin Strachan to join new-look coaching staff and follow in the footsteps of his title-winning dad Gordon

Celtic want Gavin Strachan to join their new-look coaching team – and follow in the footsteps of his dad.

Strachan is the man the Scottish champions see as replacement for Damien Duff and fitting into Neil Lennon’s backroom staff.

It would be an emotional move for Strachan junior after father Gordon spent years as manager of the Glasgow giants.

Strachan is currently with Darren Ferguson at Peterborough and the pair are long term allies. But this move would be hard to resist.

Celtic coach John Kennedy is close to Strachan, working together in their coaching badges at the same time.

And the move could be wrapped up this week if compensation can be agreed between the two clubs.

Strachan’s terms are unlikely to be a problem.

Celtic are back in training and planning for a return to action as soon as possible.

Strachan is the first choice for the post, but they will want a quick answer.

Posh have just missed out on being in the League One promotion play offs and are reluctantly sat on the sidelines.

Ferguson will not want to lose Strachan but is unlikely to stand in his way if he pushes for the move.

Strachan was born in Aberdeen and played for Scotland at under-21 level so he would be at home in the SPFL.

Should he make the move to Parkhead, he will do so with the Bhoys under pressure to secure the much-coveted “ten in a row” feat.
