Arsenal and Leeds target Jonathan David’s former coach reveals he would be perfectly suited for Marcelo Bielsa’s side

LEEDS United target Jonathan David would be a perfect fit for Marcelo Bielsa’s style, his former coach has exclusively revealed.

The Canadian international, who has starred for Belgium side Gent this term scoring 23 goals in 40 games, has been mooted as a target for the newly promoted Yorkshire giants, as well as Arsenal and French club Lille.

But it’s under the watchful eye of Argentine maestro Bielsa where David, 20, could thrive.

“Looking at the Premier League right now, there are so many different styles being played by different international managers,” Joe Fournier, David’s teacher at the Louis-Riel school in Ottawa, told SunSport.

“But with Leeds coming up and being one of his reported options, I think with the way he plays, his level of fitness and speed, he would fit Marcelo Bielsa’s style.

“I think he could play very well there with everything that Bielsa demands, and that could get the best out of him.”

Rivalling Leeds for David’s signature are Lille, who are believed to be close to sealing a deal for the exciting talent.

Fournier said: “He would do well in France too. I’m not going to say he’s the next Mbappe, but he has similar characteristics in his game.

“He’s got the raw speed, is very athletic, his explosiveness and control of the ball would translate well to both leagues.”

He added: “Jonathan does have the talent, I feel, to be able to play anywhere.”

Born in New York City, David moved to Canada at the age of six.

He joined Belgium side Gent in 2018, and scored fourteen goals in his first season.

It has been reported that while David is said to prefer a move to France, Leeds have made significant progress in trying to sign him.

The prolific forward is said to be worth around £31million.
