Eddie Hearn confirms first Fight Camp bout is planned for July 15 in the garden of his huge Essex mansion

EDDIE HEARN has confirmed he plans to host his first Fight Camp bonanza in the garden of his huge mansion on July 15.

The Matchroom Boxing kingpin wants to stage five-bout fight nights on his 15-acre piece of land in Brentwood, Essex.

But this first one – if it goes ahead on what Hearn has described as the “working date” – will be on a Wednesday night.

The original plan was to have the bouts, which could accommodate 80 to 90 people, held on a Saturday.

When asked if he had a date set for the opening night, Hearn told the Pug and Copp Boxing Show: “We’ve got a working date of July 15 at the moment.

“To be honest when this all started I was like, ‘we’ve got to get back as soon as possible’.

“And actually, every day that passes, I’m saying, ‘don’t rush it’ because actually the longer you wait the less obstacles you will have to overcome.

“The response I’m getting from most boxers now is, ‘I do need to actually get back in the gym and spar’.

“I’ve seen a lot of fighters on social media, particularly in America, seem to be back in the gyms now.

“In the UK virtually no fighter is back in the boxing ring.

“That July 15 date is pencilled in at the moment but does have the ability to move one or two weeks later if it’s going to be easier for us logistically, and give fighters more time to prepare.

“Our international shows – and that will be one from Fight Camp – will be aired on DAZN.”

Hearn – who recently claimed some fighters are dodging the coronavirus comeback – aims for Dillian Whyte’s showdown with Alexander Povetkin for the WBC interim heavyweight title clash to be one of the bouts held in his garden.

And he is also looking to have Katie Taylor’s undisputed lightweight women’s fight against Amanda Serrano staged at his home too.

Hearn told the Mail: “Just imagine it. It is summer, the house is all lit up, you can see Canary Wharf in the distance and fireworks are going off.

“Then over the hill walk Whyte and Povetkin for a massive tear up on my lawn. World championship boxing in my garden? Oh, go on then.

“It is a huge mission. We are going to turn our headquarters here into an outdoor venue for live boxing, with a full canopy in the middle of the garden and the ring overlooking London.”
