Dillian Whyte splits from long-term trainer Mark Tibbs just month before WBC world title eliminator against Povetkin

DILLIAN WHYTE has decided to split from his trainer Mark Tibbs with six weeks before his fight with Alexander Povetkin.

Whyte and Tibbs have been working together for the last four years but have now decided on an amicable split.

Whyte posted the news on social media, writing: “Just to let everyone know Mark Tibbs and I are no longer working together as boxer and trainer.

“I’m training in Portugal and Mark has a young family and his own new gym in the UK. It means it just hasn’t worked out in the way we had both hoped.

“Mark came into my team four years ago and has helped turn me into the world class boxer that I am today.

“Mark is a great trainer and I will always be grateful to him and his Dad for all they have done.”

Whyte will take on veteran Povetkin on the final show of Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Fight Camp.

The winner will be named the WBC interim champion – meaning next would be a title full title shot against champ Tyson Fury.

It is a scrap Whyte, who will have been WBC’s mandatory challenger for 1,000 days come August, is desperate for, having called out the Gypsy King for weeks.

And despite Fury agreeing a two-fight deal to take on WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO champ Anthony Joshua, Whyte is adamant he will NOT step aside to let that happen.
