Andy Ruiz Jr links up with Canelo Alvarez’s trainer Eddy Reynoso as he plots ring return after Anthony Joshua loss

ANDY RUIZ JR has linked up with Canelo Alvarez’s trainer Eddy Reynoso as he plots his return to the ring for the first time since losing to Anthony Joshua.

Mexican superstar Canelo was ringside in Saudi Arabia to watch a 20st Ruiz surrender the unified belts against AJ, just six months after winning them in an upset against the Brit.

In the aftermath the heavyweight sacked trainer Manny Robles and blamed a lack of commitment and dedication in training for his loss.

Ruiz will now be trained by Reynoso who also works with Oscar Valdez, Julio Cesar Martinez and Ryan Garcia.

The 30-year-old former champ had planned to have a comeback fight in August before facing Luis Ortiz, who was twice knocked out against Deontay Wilder.

But amid the coronavirus pandemic Ruiz will have to now go down a different route.

He found himself embroiled in a public spat with Dillian Whyte, after accusing the Brit of lying about a $5million offer made by promoter Eddie Hearn to match the two against each other.

Whyte did reveal that an offer of $4m was sent to the Mexican-American, with Hearn revealing he would have upped it by a million had Ruiz been interested in the fight.

Since then Tony Bellew, who retired in 2018 after losing to Oleksandr Usyk, told Hearn he would be able to make a comeback at heavyweight and “absolutely make a fool” of Ruiz.

But the Matchroom Boxing boss has promised to keep Bellew – who twice beat David Haye – in retirement.

He told Sky Sports: “He’s just a fighter that misses it. He says ‘I know I can beat him, I know I can beat him’.

“But after the Usyk fight he said to me ‘Make sure I never get in the ring again’ and his wife would kill me! I’m twenty times more scared of Rachel than I am of Tony.

“It’s not even up for consideration.”
