Chelsea legend Mikel jokes team-mate Eden Hazard was ‘laziest star he’s played with’

EDEN HAZARD has been branded “the laziest player” by former team-mate and Chelsea legend Jon Obi Mikel.

Mikel was a pundit on BeIn Sports in Turkey when he labelled the ex-Blues favourite: “The laziest player I have ever played with.”

The Nigeria midfielder, 32, clocked up more than 370 appearances for the Blues between 2006 and 2017, during that time they won four Premier League titles, the 2012 Champions League and four FA Cups, among other trophies.

Mikel played alongside Hazard for five years, after the Belgian joined the West Londoners in 2012.

He told BeIn Sports: “Hazard has an incredible talent.

“Maybe not as good as [Lionel] Messi, but he can do whatever he wants with the ball at his feet.

“He didn’t like to train hard. While we were working he was waiting for us to finish training just standing there.

“But on Sundays he was always man of the match, it was unbelievable.”

Hazard left Chelsea last summer in a £150million move to Real Madrid after seven trophy-laden seasons.

Mikel is now playing in the Turkish Super Lig at Trabzonspor following a short spell at Middlesbrough last season.

The midfielder was also asked to name his best Chelsea XI by the broadcaster – and there was no place for Hazard.

He named the likes of Blues legends John Terry, Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Peter Cech and Ashley Cole in his line-up – but there was no room for the Belgium magician.

Clearly he just didn’t work hard enough.
