Holyfield retired from boxing in 2011 after a TKO victory over Brian Nielsen in Copenhagen.

But he is now keen on taking up the sport once more.

And Holyfield is hoping to make his comeback against Bowe, 52.

He’s been out of action for even longer, with his last fight coming in December 2008.

The pair fought each other three times between 1992 and 1995, with Bowe triumphing twice.

Holyfield now wants to even the scores.

However, a potential clash in Japan appears to have been scrapped.

But Holyfield is confident he can get something going with Bowe.

Holyfield, whose son Evan is now fighting professionally, told World Boxing News: “I had something set up in Japan that they were talking about doing, but now nobody is saying anything.

“Hopefully it will happen but I had nobody talk to me lately about it. If we do it then fine, if we don’t I’m good.

“I wanted to do it with Riddick Bowe. We’re friends. And the kind of money they’re talking about would be pretty good for three rounds.

“Yes, I can do that. I’m ready.”

Holyfield isn’t the only veteran with one eye on a return.

Nigel Benn, 55, announced his comeback earlier this year against Sakio Bika – 23 years after hanging up his gloves.

However, Benn had to cancel the fight and retire for a second time after suffering a shoulder injury less than a month before the clash.
