Anthony Joshua jokes there should be a super-heavyweight division after Andy Ruiz Jr weighs THREE STONE heavier than him

ANTHONY JOSHUA joked there should be a super-heavyweight division after Andy Ruiz Jr scaled THREE STONE heavier than the Brit.

AJ, 30, fights for his career on Saturday night in Saudi Arabia attempting to reclaim the unified belts six months on from his shock New York defeat to Ruiz.

Joshua weighed in at 16st 13lb for the rematch – losing 10lb from the last bout at Madison Square Garden.

And Ruiz – who came in at 19st 2lb before his upset victory – scaled a whopping 20st 3lb for the Saudi rerun.

Joshua – who won gold in the super-heavyweight amateur category in the London 2012 Olympics – said his opponent could be in a whole new division to him.

He told Sky Sports: “The weigh in is important, but as heavyweights it doesn’t really matter. It’s just about skills pay the bills and that leads to victory.

“Not so much about the weight, but I am what I am, and I feel good.

“He’s a big lad, they should make a super-heavyweight division, you know what I mean?

“Because there is that much of a vast different, but the art of the game is to hit and not get hit and avoid them punches.

“Imagine being three stone heavier and how fast he is, but I’ll definitely be beating him to the punch tomorrow night.”

Joshua and Ruiz, 30, both teased dramatic weight transformations during their training camp after pictures emerged online.

But the Mexican-American champ seems to have fooled everyone as he put on a stone for the rematch.

AJ, though, is not concerned, as the physical training comes to an end and the two fighters mentally prepare for their clash tomorrow night.

Joshua said: “It’s just how he’s always been, he’s a big lad, I’m a big lad and we hit hard.

“The physical stuff is done, it’s all about the mental now.

“Aligning my body, aligning my thoughts, using the useful stuff and absorbing the unusual stuff and realising I don’t need it.”
