He was charged in October but the charges were dropped in February by the Crown Prosecution Service.
Now, after 18-months on the sideline, club bosses are ready to give Greenwood a second chance at Old Trafford.

But protests against Greenwood’s possible return have gathered pace in recent days with more expected this weekend.

Demonstrators marched outside Old Trafford before Monday’s opening home game against Wolves, urging United to block a return.
On Thursday, Countdown host Rachel Riley vowed to stop supporting Manchester United if they welcome back Greenwood.
But speaking at a press conference ahead of United’s clash with Tottenham on Saturday, ten Hag said he and the team won’t be distracted by off-field issues.
Confronting both the Greenwood issue and club takeover saga, the Dutchman said: “No, we focus on the way of playing.

“We focus on the team performance. It is about the players who are available so we focus on Tottenham.
“Every start to the season is difficult. We know that, we are really aware of it. The (Wolves) performance was not what we hoped but we won.”
Greenwood’s last game was on January 22, 2022, in a Premier League clash against West Ham, which United won 1-0.
In June, Greenwood was spotted working on his close control and shooting in a 90-minute session on an £85-an-hour pitch.
He was then filmed last week running drills with pals at a public sports facility.
It comes as anti-Glazer protests have erupted over the American owners’ refusal to accept bids in excess of £5billion for United.

The Americans have been fielding bids for majority and minority stakes in Old Trafford since November, with their valuation standing at a mammoth £6billion.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, one of two main frontrunners, is looking to seek majority control by a slim margin.
While on the other side, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani wants 100 per cent control as he plots a stunning investment.
But despite the club being on sale for seven months, with the Glazers previously targeting a March deadline, United’s ownership saga remains in limbo.

As a result, they are yet to sign any players this summer despite making a fresh bid for Chelsea’s Mason Mount yesterday.
And The Mirror claims boss Ten Hag has been left “infuriated” by the situation.
He believes United need at least three new signings – a goalie, a striker and a midfielder – to compete for next season’s title.
But the Glazers are unwilling to release transfer funds until they have concluded their sale of the club.

And Ten Hag fears missing out on all of his top targets while rivals strengthen in key areas.
The Red Devils have already lost Napoli’s Kim Min-Jae to Bayern Munich, while Arsenal look set to win the race for Ajax’s Jurrien Timber.
The Gunners are also closing in on West Ham’s Declan Rice, with Chelsea hoping to land Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag’s unhappiness has raised fears among fans that he could resign.
One tweeted: “I won’t be surprised if Erik Ten Hag walk. I wouldn’t begrudge him this. He deserves better.”
Another wrote: “Could genuinely see Ten Hag walking from this s***show of a situation, the delay with this takeover is DISGUSTING.”
As another commented: “This is getting out of hand. We already have some budget. Why don’t they use it to book the top targets?” More

Sheikh Jassim ‘would scrap Erik ten Hag rule’ if he wins Man Utd takeover race after boss’ Cristiano Ronaldo reaction

THE potental new Manchester United owner reportedly plans to scrap Erik ten Hag’s new rule if he takes over at Old Trafford.Sheikh Jassim is in a battle with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and other investors to buy the club from the Glazer family.

Sheikh Jassim could try to scrap it if he becomes the new Man Utd owner
The Qatari banker has offered around £5.5billion for United with plans to wipe out the club’s £500million debt and invest in the overdue renovation of the 76,000-seater stadium.
And if he did come out on top, the Qatari bidder would likely ditch the pay limit introduced by Ten Hag in the wake of the Cristiano Ronaldo saga.

Ronaldo, who earned an initial £480,000 per week upon his return to Manchester, was axed following his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan in which he publicly criticised the club, the manager and his team-mates.
In response to that, reports emerged suggested Ten Hag would implement a new rule capping wages at £200,000 per week to avoid a culture of jealousy in the United dressing room.

The ploy was criticised by Gary Neville who claimed it would price the club out of landing their primary transfer targets.
And now Team Talk state Sheikh Jassim will rip up that idea as part of his grand plans to try and sign some of the world’s top talents.
The likes of PSG pair Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have both been linked with United – but there is no way of signing either on contracts worth £200,000 per week, roughly a third of their current deals.
And the reported plans to ditch the manager’s new scheme if Sheikh Jassim comes in could set the pair on a collision course.

Ten Hag has enjoyed a fine debut season with United, leading them to Carabao Cup glory and qualifying for the Champions League.
But after clinching a place in the top four, Ten Hag declared he needs “better players” at his disposal to challenge for the title.
The ex-Ajax boss said: “It is a good base to build on but standards have to go up and demands have to rise.
“We have to work in the summer with this squad but we also have to strengthen in the window with this squad.
“We want to compete for the title but it has to be realistic. It is what is there.
“Now, we are far away so there is a lot of work to do but we need better players if want to compete for the highest.”
United have been linked with signing a host of huge players and could shell out as much as £365m on FIVE stars.
The man at the top of the list is Harry Kane with the likes of Declan Rice, Mason Mount, Kim Min-jae and Jeremie Frimpong among others supposedly being targeted. More

Sheikh Jassim left ‘stunned’ by Glazers during Man Utd takeover talks as new details of negotiations emerge

SHEIKH JASSIM has reportedly been left stunned by the Glazers after the takeover negotiations took another turn.According to Spanish outlet El Pais, the Glazers have changed their asking price mid-negotiation.
Avram Glazer and his family own both Manchester United and the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sheikh Jassim was said to be stunned by the decision to ask for more money and has reportedly cooled his interest in the club as a result.
It is suggested that the Glazers upped their asking price to nearer £6billion rather than their initial £5.2billion demand.
Sheikh Jassim is understood to have already tabled four offers for the Manchester club, but there is yet to be any agreement.
The Glazers, who have owned the club since 2005, are also negotiating with Jim Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe is the Manchester-born billionaire chief of the chemical company, INEOS.
The Glazers would reportedly remain part of Man Utd in minor roles in the deal proposed by the Brit.
The fans are keen to have the current owners removed from the club entirely with long-standing animosity between the Americans and the fanbase.
On the pitch the club have now all but secured Champions League football for next season with only one point needed from their remaining two fixtures.

Meanwhile, the offer from Ratcliffe would see Ineos obtain a majority stake in the Old Trafford club rather than full control.
The Nice owners bid, said to be close to £6bn, would also see owners Joel and Avram Glazer retain a minority stake in the club.
West Ham are not the first club named as a potential suitor for Sheikh Jassim with reports earlier this week suggesting Tottenham were on his radar as well. More

Ratcliffe, 70, is set to beat off strong interest from Qatari Sheikh Jassim, who wants to buy the club outright from the Glazers.
Sheikh Jassim has risen his offer in a last-ditch attempt to beat off Ratcliffe’s bid – although the Brit’s proposal is said to still value United more highly.
According to the Sunday Times Rich List 2023, Ratcliffe’s fortune has risen significantly in the last 12 months.
In their 2022 list he featured at 27th, but this time around he is up to second after an eyewatering £23.613bn increase in his fortune.

Ratcliffe’s worth is now said to be £29.688bn – only behind that of the Hinduja family.
The Rich List’s Robert Watts told the PA of Ratcliffe’s rise up the rankings: “This year we have new information about the full scale of Ineos’ profits and that has made us confident that Ineos is now worth at least £40bn.
“We have also learned more about the personal assets that Jim has accumulated over the past 25 years.”

Sheikh Jassim reportedly wants to buy the club in its entirety.

With the Brit supposedly leading the race, ESPN claim that Sheikh Jassim will attempt to buy Tottenham if he can’t get his hands on Man Utd.

Man Utd takeover twist as Sheikh Jassim lodges FINAL ‘take it or leave it’ bid despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe leading race

SHEIKH JASSIM has launched a last-ditch bid to buy Manchester United. The Qatari remains eager to buy the Red Devils, despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos being selected as preferred bidder.
Sheikh Jassim has made a last-ditch improved bid to buy Man United
Ratcliffe’s offer would see Ineos purchase a majority stake in United, with the Glazers remaining as minority shareholders, which would be hugely unpopular with fans.
Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, meanwhile, wants to buy the club in its entirety.
And he has “significantly” improved his bid which as before is for 100 per cent of the club, will clear all debt and includes a separate fund directed solely at the club and community.
But it is still said to value United at a lower price than Ratcliffe’s.

The Times claims the new Qatari offer falls short of Ratcliffe’s valuation, which could end up close to £6billion.
But Sheikh Jassim is offering to buy 100 per cent of the club now, for a price nearer to £5billion.
Insiders insist the Qatari offer represents a significant increase on their opening bid.
And if Sheikh Jassim wins, PSG’s Brazil legend Neymar is said to remain a serious target.
