Arsenal in huge boost as Thomas Partey returns to full training ahead of Brentford clash after thigh injury

ARSENAL have been given a huge boost ahead of Sunday’s clash at Brentford.That’s because Thomas Partey has returned to full training following a thigh injury.

The midfielder, 29, had missed Arsenal’s last three games against Fulham, Aston Villa and Manchester United.
But CBS Sports claim Partey could be back in Arsenal’s XI when they travel to Brentford this weekend.
The Ghana international took on a starring role in the Gunners’ opening three games – wins over Crystal Palace, Leicester and Bournemouth.
And his presence in Arsenal’s side will be a huge boost to Mikel Arteta following the 3-1 defeat to United earlier this month.

An injury to fellow midfielder Mo Elneny saw Albert Sambi Lokonga play next to Granit Xhaka at Old Trafford.
Arteta had been hoping to land another powerful midfielder on deadline day.
But he was left empty-handed when Aston Villa rejected a £23million bid for Douglas Luiz.
Arteta confirmed last week: “The club has done a phenomenal job and put everything on the table to try to bring the players and the profiles we wanted.

“We did business pretty early but unfortunately in the last 72 hours, Thomas [Partey] got injured in the same place he got injured last time.
“And then Mo [Mohamed Elneny] has a long-term injury and we had to react in the market.
“We tried but at the end of the day, we have to bring the player that we feel is right for the team and the club – we didn’t manage to do that.”
Partey is now into his third season at the Emirates following a £45m move from Atletico Madrid.

PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG has become the latest star to officially play for both Arsenal and Chelsea.The striker, 33, joined the Blues in a £10million transfer from Barcelona on deadline day, just eight months after leaving North London.

PETR CECH
CECH spent over a decade at Chelsea between 2004 and 2015, winning four Premier League titles, the Champions League in 2011-12 as well as nine other trophies.
But Cech, now 40, moved north to the Emirates – where he spent the final four years of his career – winning the FA Cup and two Community Shields.
He returned to Chelsea in 2019 to become technical director, but left in June after Todd Boehly took over the club.
LASSANA DIARRA
DIARRA joined Chelsea from Le Havre in 2005 – where he made just 13 Premier League appearances.
Diarra, 37, joined Arsenal two years later, where he last just one season, playing seven times before moving to Portsmouth… and then, bizarrely, Real Madrid.
He then played for several Russian sides and Marseille before ending his career at Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.
DAVID LUIZ
LUIZ was a surprise deadline day arrival for Arsenal in 2019 when he arrived in an £8m move from Chelsea.
The Brazilian, 35, spent six years at Stamford Bridge across two spells at the club – but left after being told he would not be an automatic starter.
He left Arsenal last summer after his contract expired and now plays back home for Flamengo.
WILLIAM GALLAS
ANOTHER to move straight from Chelsea to Arsenal, Gallas earned cult hero status at the Blues between 2001 and 2006 – having first joined before Roman Abramovich’s cash injection.
The Frenchman, 45, played 159 league games for the Blues and featured over 100 times for the Gunners too.
But his London tour didn’t stop there, with Gallas then spending three years at Tottenham before retiring in 2014.
ASHLEY COLE
ARGUABLY the most controversial Arsenal to Chelsea mover, Cole spent a decade at Highbury having worked his way through their youth ranks.
After 159 games at Arsenal, Cole, 41, went on to have success at Chelsea, playing 229 Premier League matches – winning one title, to go with his two from the Gunners.
Cole is looked at fondly by Blues supporters, but less so by Arsenal who never got over his betrayal.
Cole is now a first-team coach under Frank Lampard at Everton.

DAVID ROCASTLE
THE Lewisham-born star spent ten years at Arsenal, having worked his way through their youth ranks.
After leaving, Rocastle played for Leeds and Manchester City, before heading to Chelsea where he spent a further four years towards the end of his career.
Rocastle sadly passed away at the age of 33 in March 2001, just a month after revealing he was undergoing treatment for cancer.
EMMANUEL PETIT
SPENDING three years apiece at the two clubs, either side of a season at Barcelona, Petit became a cult icon at both teams.
The 1998 World Cup winner, 51, won a Premier League crown with Arsenal – as well as an FA Cup and two Charity Shields – as it was then known.
Petit retired in 2005 and is now a pundit.
CESC FABREGAS
SIMILARLY to Petit, Fabregas left Arsenal for Barcelona, before heading to Chelsea – much to Gooners’ annoyance.
Fab, 35, spent eight years at the Gunners, racking up over 200 league appearances, before returning to England three years later, where he spent five seasons at Chelsea, playing 138 Prem games.
He is now playing for Serie B side Como having made the switch from Monaco in August.
PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG
Aubameyang joined Chelsea on deadline day
AUBAMEYANG joined Arsenal on deadline day in January 2018 for a then-club-record fee of £56m.
He went on to score 92 goals in 163 appearances for the Gunners and also won the FA Cup, Community Shield and a golden boot.
But, after being banished from the first team following a series of disciplinary breaches last year, his contract was terminated in January.
Barcelona were then able to snatch him up in a free transfer on deadline day.
Aubameyang went on to score 13 goals in 24 appearances for the LaLiga giants before returning to London to reunite with his former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.

NICOLAS ANELKA
HAVING played for so many clubs, it’s hardly a surprise Anelka played for both Arsenal and Chelsea.
The Gunners were the French talent’s first English club, where he scored 23 goals in 65 games, before moving to Chelsea over a decade later, scoring 38 times in 125 matches across four seasons.
The 43-year-old also played for Man City, Liverpool, Bolton and West Brom.
Anelka is now Sporting Director of French second division side Hyères.
OLIVIER GIROUD
ARSENAL fans were disappointed when Giroud left them after six years and 73 Premier League goals.
The striker, 35, enjoyed ups and downs at Stamford Bridge but went on to win the Europa League… defeating the Gunners in the 2019 final.
He left England after winning the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021 for a new adventure in Serie A with AC Milan.
Giroud has scored 15 goals so far for the Italians, who are the reigning Serie A champions. More

The scene showed Arsenal ace Lokonga having a grumble about falling out of Mikel Arteta’s plans.
Despite starting the season well, the Belgian soon found himself on the bench.
And after refusing to respond to Nketiah’s questions about his wellbeing, Lokonga said: “I was playing!”
This prompted a less-than-sympathetic response from Nketiah, who was also struggling for minutes at the time.

It’s not the only show-stopping scene of the final episodes.

Neill first endeared himself to the Gunners by making 241 league appearances between 1959 and 1970 while becoming the club’s youngest-ever captain aged 20.
A no-nonsense centre-back, he also won 59 caps for Northern Ireland.
After leaving Arsenal, Neill moved to Hull and eventually became a player-manager.
He then enjoyed spells in the dugout with Northern Ireland and Tottenham.

But Neill really made his mark as a tactician back at Arsenal.
Returning, aged just 34, he led the club from 1976 to 1983, and veteran Gooners still remember the famous 3-2 win over Manchester United in the 1979 FA Cup final.
Neill took Arsenal to another two FA Cup finals, plus a Uefa Cup Winners’ Cup final.
And the Gunners led the tributes on social media as they hailed a club icon.

“Neill’s status as both club captain and manager made him a major influence on 20th-century Arsenal.
“His fantastic contribution – and indeed his character – will always be appreciated by everyone associated with the club.
“Our thoughts are with Terry’s family and close friends at this difficult time.”
Arsenal fans hailed Neill and his incredible contribution to football.
One said: “Terry Neill’s 1979 FA Cup win was the formative Arsenal experience of my childhood.
“I still remember it vividly and so fondly. Condolences to his family and friends, and may he rest in peace.”

They were furious at the club’s bungled attempts to sign up for a European Super League and blamed the absent American owner for their team’s failure to challenge for the Premier League title.
Yet Arteta has remained fiercely loyal to the controversial billionaire and insists recent events have proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Kroenke is the right man to take Arsenal forward.
And his latest talks with the man known as ‘Silent Stan’ have confirmed that belief.

It means Kroenke has sanctioned £270million of new signings over the past year, more than any other Premier League team over that period.
He also gave the green light for Arteta to sign a new three-year contract in May despite Champions League qualification still being in the balance with four games of the season remaining.

The now 35-year-old had a clause in his contract with the Reds that they had to inform him of any transfer bid if it was more than £40m.
And Law insisted that Arsenal were always aware the figure was not a buy-out clause and they simply added the extra pound to kick-start negotiations.
But Liverpool owner John W. Henry took offence to the offer and, after it was publicised, he tweeted: “What do you think they’re smoking over there?”
Suarez ended up remaining at Anfield for another season where he was named PFA Player of the Year before sealing a £75m move to Barcelona.
Several years later and the striker was available for a nominal fee, leaving Barcelona for Atletico Madrid in 2020, where he won the LaLiga title.
The Gunners’ then-transfer guru Law would later explain that the North London side had never wanted to antagonise their Premier League rivals.

“We knew that we had to exceed a certain threshold and so we decided to throw another pound on it.
“We could have thrown £50 or £500,000, but it wasn’t going to make any difference to the final negotiation.
“The offer was just a trigger. Liverpool wanted to make a big deal out of it and that’s fine. When they received our offer they immediately publicised it.
“I think John Henry wanted to know what we were smoking, which I thought was a bit disrespectful.
“It was him having a bit of a go because he was getting ready to lose his star player. It was a good way to deflect attention.
“I always thought that the move to publicise it was counter-productive.
“One of the things we were always very proud of at Arsenal was working quietly behind the scenes. Ivan [Gazidis], Arsene [Wenger] and I always worked very hard on being discreet in all transfers.
“And I thought Liverpool shot themselves in the foot by basically saying they were now forced to entertain offers because of this clause, by publicising it they just made everyone aware and eventually they lost the player.”

ARSENAL have confirmed the appointment of Jack Wilshere as the club’s new Under-18 head coach.The former England midfielder, 30, announced his retirement last Friday after missing out on more than four years of football during an injury-riddled playing career.

Now he will be in charge of promoting the best young talent from the club’s Hale End academy after he was allowed to help coach the kids by Mikel Arteta last year.
Wilshere said: “This is a big opportunity for me and I am ready, I’m hungry and I can’t wait to help these young players thrive and be the best they can.
“It’s no secret that I love this club and what it stands for and that love never left me.
“Even though I moved on for a few years, my heart was always still at Arsenal.
“A big part of my life was spent in this academy, some of the best days of my life. It’s a huge honour to have this role.”

Academy manager Per Mertesacker said: “Everyone knows how passionate Jack is about Arsenal.
“He understands what we want to achieve here and he really impressed us last year.
“He knows exactly what it takes to progress through the academy into the first team.”

Wilshere was once considered to be one of the most talented English footballers of his generation.
He spent a decade in Arsenal’s first team, before spells with West Ham and Bournemouth and then lastly a brief stint in Denmark at AGF.
He also received 34 caps for England, scoring two goals, but has not featured since 2016 after a number of injury issues.
