‘I really like him’ – Liverpool boss Klopp reveals he is huge fan of Arsenal star Odegaard and wanted him at Dortmund

The attacking midfielder is proving why he used to be considered as one of the hottest young prospects when he was a teenager before he signed for Real at the age of 17.
However, the Norway international struggled to break into the first team and was sent out on various loan stints to Heerenveen, Vitesse, Real Sociedad and of course Arsenal where he is now captain.
Klopp – whose side face him this weekend – admitted that he tried to sign Odegaard at Borussia Dortmund when he was in charge before the 23-year-old opted for Real instead.
The German tactician, whose team currently lacks flare in midfield, insists Odegaard shouldn’t regret turning him down as the challenges he faced turned him into the player he is today.

Klopp told TV2: “I really like him. It’s easy these days. It was a bit more difficult at the start of his career when he was at Real Madrid. Then it looked like it might not go his way.
“I was really disappointed by that, because we wanted him in Dortmund when he was very young.
“We had a long conversation when he was still a boy, together with his father.
“In the end he decided on Madrid, and that’s fine, but that’s why I’ve always followed him.

“You can only imagine how many talents, huge talents, crazy talents, I have seen over the course of quite a while in this industry.
“At the time, Martin was 15 years old and already playing in Norway. The whole world went berserk.
“Until he was 15, he probably experienced no hardship. After that, a lot of things went against him.
“It makes him the person he is now, the man he is now, and the player he is now.
“I’m really happy that he has now become the player we all expected him to become. In fact, even better than that, if you will. He plays a massive role in an incredibly strong Arsenal team.” More

Arsenal are ‘just behind Man City’ claims Arsene Wenger as legendary boss claims Gunners CAN win Premier League

The North Londoners are top of the table with only one point separating them from second-placed City after winning seven of their first eight league matches.
Wenger still believes Mikel Arteta’s men are “just behind” the reigning champions.
However, the legendary boss argues City could end up focusing too much on the Champions League, the one major trophy that still eludes them, and that could allow Arsenal to swoop in.
Wenger told beIN SPORTS: “Personally I would put them just behind City.

“The second best team to have a good chance to win the Premiership.
“Man City at some stage will focus highly on the Champions League.”
Wenger doesn’t expect substantial opposition by either Liverpool or Chelsea, who have endured a rocky start to the season.
The 72-year-old also doesn’t think Tottenham have what it takes to challenge City after their derby loss on Saturday.

Wenger added: “We don’t know about Liverpool, but they’re already 11 points behind, 10 points behind Man City is a mountain to climb.
“Chelsea doesn’t look consistent at the moment. They have not found the confidence to contend to win the league.’
Wenger concluded: “Tottenham by my DNA, I cannot be.” More

Gabriel Jesus’ camp confident he will be in Brazil squad for Qatar World Cup after Arsenal striker’s shock axing

GABRIEL JESUS’ representatives are confident he will earn a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad – despite not being selected during this international break. The Arsenal striker, 25, has been on fire since his £45million summer move from Manchester City, with four goals and three assists in his opening seven Premier League games this season.

Despite this form, he was controversially left out of the Brazil squad by manager Tite, who instead favoured Tottenham’s Richarlison as his No9.
The Spurs forward – who also arrived in North London in the summer – appears to have tightened his grip on that position, scoring twice in a 3-0 win over Ghana last week.
Richarlison, 25, should also feature tonight against Tunisia – Brazil’s final outing before their opening World Cup group stage game versus Serbia on November 24.
Jesus later admitted he “respected” Tite’s decision to leave him out.
    Read More on World Cup
However, SunSport understands that Jesus’ agents are not worried about his recent axing, and believe Tite merely wants to look at other options.
They believe Jesus is already well known and understood by Tite having made his debut under the coach back in 2016 before going on to score 19 goals in 56 appearances.
Although there may be some anxious waiting by the phone in the coming weeks, his agents feel he should be included in the final squad for Qatar.
Jesus’ last goal for his country was back in June, coming off the bench in a friendly against South Korea before netting in injury time in a 5-1 win.

Jesus is not the only Gunners player not to be selected in Tite’s squad this month, with Gabriel Martinelli and defender Gabriel Magalhaes also deemed surplus to requirements.
Martinelli’s place is far less certain, despite a bright start this campaign, with the likes of Neymar, Raphinha, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Antony all vying for an attacking spot.
The 21-year-old Arsenal winger only made his senior debut for Brazil back in March, and has made three international appearances since. More

Arsenal looking to raid Juventus for Dusan Vlahovic and Fabio Miretti in stunning double transfer swoop

ARSENAL have been linked with a sensational double transfer swoop for Juventus duo Dusan Vlahovic and Fabio Miretti. The Gunners splashed out over £100million during the summer as Mikel Arteta overhauled his squad.

The Gunners reportedly want Fabio Miretti and Dusan Vlahovic from JuventusCredit: Getty
Part of those incomings was the arrival of £45million Brazilian international forward Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.
He was also joined by attackers Fabio Vieira and Marquinhos, as well as defender Oleksandr Zinchenko and goalkeeper Matt Turner.
Despite all of those attacking reinforcements, a new report from Italy claims Arteta is pushing the Arsenal board to fork out over £100m more in January.
CMW is reporting that he has instructed them to make a move for Juventus star Vlahovic.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
The 22-year-old Serbian had been linked with the North London club for several months before he snubbed them in favour of joining the Turin side from Fiorentina back in January.
He has since fired 11 goals in 21 Serie A outings – including four in eight appearances this term.
It seems unlikely that Juventus would be looking to sell him within a year of securing his services, but this fresh report states that has not deterred Arteta.
And he is not the only man that the Spaniard wants to bring to the Emirates from the Bianconeri.

Their 19-year-old midfield star Miretti is also allegedly on his wishlist.
The Italian U21 international has become a key member of Massimiliano Allegri’s squad this term.
He has featured nine times and is another name that Juventus are unlikely to want to lose, especially midway through the campaign.
But that has not stopped this fresh report from claiming that Arteta has asked Arsenal to launch a £100.52m double bid for the pair. More

Murphy slams Arteta for giving 15-year-old Arsenal wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri debut and is ‘concerned’ about repercussions

DANNY MURPHY has slammed Mikel Arteta for handing Ethan Nwaneri a debut at the age of 15.That’s because the pundit admits he is “concerned” there will be “repercussions” further down the line.

Arsenal youngster Nwaneri became the youngest ever player to compete in the Premier League at the age of 15 on Sunday.
The teenage ace came on for the Gunners in their 3-0 win against Brentford as he replaced Fabio Vieira late on.
The Arsenal fans chanted: “How s*** must you be, he’s only 15.”
And many will be hoping to see Nwaneri in action soon again.

However, Murphy reckons Arsenal’s move could backfire.
He has questioned why boss Arteta didn’t give a more developed youngster a debut instead.
That’s due to the immense pressure that comes with being jolted into the public eye.
Murphy also fears that getting senior minutes at such a young age could go to Nwaneri’s head.

And for every Wayne Rooney or Michael Owen who bursts onto the scene, there are plenty of others who fall by the wayside.
Murphy told TalkSport: “I’m not convinced it’s the best move for a young player, I’m really not.
“I have seen superstars come on the scene at a young age and thrive and go on and carry on.
“But there’s also been a lot who have fallen by the wayside.
“I think it was a little bit… he’s obviously a super talent, obviously doing well in training, impressing everybody.
“But surely they’ve got other 18, 19, 20 year olds who are probably further ahead in their development who could have gone on the bench.
“I think it’s probably trying to keep a young superstar happy a little bit, which is what managers do, I get that.
“But I would be more concerned with sometimes what that can do, because you can elevate a 15, 16, 17 year old sometimes to a position that becomes very difficult for them to cope with mentally, because they’re already becoming a superstar.

“I imagine his Insta went up by about 300,000 in a day and things like this.
“People might laugh at this and say stop being cynical and skeptical, but very few players at 17 – never mind 15 – burst onto the Premier League scene and do what Rooney and Michael Owen did.” More

Last season he starred at Lincoln City, where his combination of power and pace also earned the youngster high-praise.
While back in July, Norton-Cuffy played an important role in England’s U19 Euros triumph against Israel in the final.
“I want to reach my potential, or go above and beyond what my potential is,” he recently revealed.
“In my career, I want to be a star player in a top league in Europe, I want to win as many trophies as I can.”
    Striking up a relationship
Norton-Cuffy joined Arsenal at the tender age of 10. Before that, the Pimlico-born prospect trained with Chelsea.

However, he wasn’t the swashbuckling defender he is today.
Just like Ashley Cole did in his younger days, Norton-Cuffy fancied himself as a striker.
As he developed at Hale End his position soon changed into an attacking full-back.
Both-footed, he is able to play on each flank – although has been mainly utilised on the right.

Back in August, he signed a long-term contract with the Gunners who believe he has a big future at the club.
    Earning his stripes
Last season, Norton-Cuffy joined Lincoln City in the January transfer window in a loan deal.
Immediately, he was thrust into action for the League One side – making 17 appearances for The Imps and scoring once. For the fans, he was a hit.
His former Lincoln boss Michael Appleton, now in charge at Blackpool, also tipped Norton-Cuffy to have a huge future at Arsenal.
He told Lincolnshire Live in March: “I don’t want Arsenal ringing me up saying ‘what have you said that for?’

“But I’ve been saying it behind the scenes, I think he will play for Arsenal’s first team on a regular basis.
“It might not be for a couple of years but it’s definitely going to happen.
“He’ll hopefully continue his progression over the next few games.
“There’s one or two things that I think I can help him with, but by the time he goes back to Arsenal, he’ll be much better.”
More first team experience at Rotherham
After sitting down with Academy Manager Per Mertesacker and Arsenal’s loan manager Ben Knapper, Norton-Cuffy was adamant he wanted another loan move and more experience.
He told Goal: “I always knew that I was going to go back out on loan. I feel like U23s football is good, but I’ve already had a sniff of senior football and so I wasn’t going to shy away from that.
“I want to keep progressing and men’s football is a lot more challenging for me than U23s. So as soon as my spell was done with Lincoln, I knew I was going to go back out on loan.”

Four games into his Rotherham career, Norton-Cuffy has again been championed.
In a recent match against Sunderland, 80 per cent of fans voted him man of the match in a poll held by supporters.
He said: “I’m not sure if it’s the Championship, or the club that I’m at right now, but training is intense.
“It’s a lot of running, a lot of demand on the body – especially as I’m playing wing-back, which is a very key position in this team.
“I feel like it’s been a lot harder. You can’t switch off. In League 1, if you lose the ball or make a silly mistake, sometimes you don’t get punished. But if you do make silly mistakes in this league, you do. So it’s about learning quickly.
“This was the next step for me. League 1 last season was a good step up from U23s football, but you always look to improve and I think I just needed to go up a level again. And now I feel myself improving with each game, so it’s good.”
    England hero
Although the tournament began difficulty for Norton-Cuffy, he certainly came good for England when they needed him.
Conceding a penalty against Italy was a harsh lesson learned.

He didn’t start the final against Israel, but came on in the 71st minute with the scores level.
Instantly, he put himself about – getting a yellow card and firing a shot wide.
Then, he was involved in the build-up to the decisive goal – passing the ball on to Harvey Vale, who set-up Chelsea summer signing Carney Chukwuemeka to put the Three Lions ahead.
Norton-Cuffy’s next challenge is to follow the likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah into the Arsenal first team.

“You see that it can be done,” he said. “Bukayo’s the starting right winger of the Arsenal first-team wearing the No.7. Emile now has the No.10 shirt.
