Chelsea and Liverpool target Timo Werner available for just £25m as transfer clause kicks in

LIVERPOOL and Chelsea have received a huge boost in their transfer pursuit of Timo Werner after it emerged his release clause is much lower than originally thought.

The 23-year-old hotshot has been in sensational form this campaign and has caught the eye of the Premier League big boys.

The RB Leipzig forward has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield and he has further fuelled speculation by publicly stating his admiration for Jurgen Klopp and his side.

It was reported the German international had a release clause of just over £50million in his deal at the Bundesliga outfit if triggered before the end of April.

However Sport1 are now claiming that clause is actually only worth £25m plus additional performance-based bonuses.

And that will only increase the levels of demand for the striker.

Werner strengthened his reputation further last week with the only goal of the game to down Tottenham in the Champions League.

He has found the net 27 times so far this season in 33 matches.

And judging by his praise of Liverpool and the “best coach in the world” Klopp, a switch to the Reds is certainly one that appeals to him.

Werner told ViasportFotball earlier this month: “Yes I know that Liverpool is the best team in the world at the moment.

“When you’re linked with that team it makes you very proud but in case of that, it’s a pleasure, but I know Liverpool have a lot of good players.

“I have to improve myself and to learn much more things to get on this level and to play there.”

And speaking to Sky Germany, he added: “Jurgen Klopp is the best coach in the world.

“There is a lot to suggest that my style of play would suit there (Liverpool).”
