Aston Villa ‘lining up No2 and Chelsea legend John Terry to replace Dean Smith’ with rumours that axe is on the way

ASTON VILLA are lining up current No2 and Chelsea legend John Terry to replace Dean Smith as manager, with rumours claiming the latter is set for the sack.

The Villans currently sit 19th in the Premier League and have lost their last four games, making relegation a very real possibility.

Reports now claim the club’s top brass are considering sacking Smith.

Villa chiefs have discussed a number of options over how best to proceed should they opt to part ways with the former Brentford boss.

And one of those options is said to be promoting Chelsea legend Terry for his first-ever head coach job.

It’s unlikely JT, 39, would be promoted before their next game – Saturday night’s clash with his old club, the Blues.

But he could follow old pal Frank Lampard, now in charge at Stamford Bridge, and former England team-mate Steven Gerrard in becoming the latest from the Three Lions’ “Golden Generation” to take the step into management at some stage this season.

Despite battling valiantly in their Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City earlier this month, Villa are on a torrid run in the league.

Smith, 44, has now led his side to ten defeats in the last 15 games – despite the club splashing out a staggering £135million this season alone.

And it’s only set to get worse, with Liverpool and Manchester United also to be played in their next four games, as well as Chelsea.

Aston Villa have the worst defensive record in the Premier League too, shipping 56 goals in their 28 games.

They’re already likely to lose star man Jack Grealish this summer, too – with relegation almost certainly confirming that.

Manchester United are thought to be leading the race for the midfielder – who is hoping to finally earn an England call-up in time for Euro 2020.

Aston Villa fan is confident that Mauricio Pochettino would be a better manager than Dean Smith
