    STAT ATTACK

All four of Valencia’s games in the CL this season have seen a goal after the 80th minute (Ronaldo, anyone?)
History is against the Yellow Submarine, with United winning five of the last six competitive meetings.
Although defensively Man Utd are all over the place, with just one clean-sheet in their last 14 matches.
A hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo tonight with put him level with Robert Lewandowski at the top of the CL scoring charts (8).

    ALL CHANGE?
It won’t be long now until Carrick names his first United team-sheet.
The former England midfielder has already revealed he is ‘clear in his own mind’ who will start – but just who will make the grade?
Here’s how SunSport is predicting the Red Devils line-up tonight, with the XI confirmed around 4.45pm GMT.

    CARRICK SPEAKS
He was always known as a steady hand on tiller and boy do Man Utd need someone to navigate them safely through this current storm.
Michael Carrick opened up on Ole’s sacking yesterday in his first press conference before the team flew out to Spain.
    He said: ”
First of all it’s been an emotional time for everyone at club. I worked with Ole for three years and known him for a lot longer.
“Knowing the person that he is, the values that he has, how he treats people. To see him lose his job was tough for me and a lot of people at the club. I think you can tell from the emotion yesterday what he meant to everyone.
“Results are everything, as much as you build the right environment you don’t get what you deserve. A massive thank you from us all.”
    NEW BOSS, NEW ERA
    Well, sort of.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s Man Utd reign is over, with the Red Devils legend dismissed on Sunday after a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Watford.
It follows a barren domestic run for United, but in Europe they’ve been kept afloat by Cristiano Ronaldo’s uncanny ability to score in stoppage time.
So now under the caretaker tutelage of Michael Carrick, United take on Europa League winners Villarreal tonight in Spain.
The Yellow Submarine aren’t enjoying the best of season’s in La Liga, but showed at Old Trafford in their 2-1 defeat that they are serious contenders for the knockouts.
And that has been demonstrated by back-to-back wins over Young Boys and Atalanta, making this a huge game in the context of Group F.
For the winners, most likely qualification and the pressure off going into Gameweek 6. For the losers, all very much to play for.
Kick-off in Spain is set for 5.45pm, so settle in for some tea-time football right here on SunSport.

Chelsea sweat on Lukaku fitness ahead of Juventus clash, Newcastle enter Vlahovic transfer race, Southgate new contract

CHELSEA return to Champions League action tonight as they welcome Juventus to Stamford Bridge.Romelu Lukaku is hoping to be fit for the match, as is Timo Werner.
Gareth Southgate has signed a new contract with England, keeping him in the job until after Euro 2024.
The Three Lions boss has done a top job since taking the post in 2016 and will now lead England at the World Cup in 2022 and the Euros.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have reportedly joined the race to sign £70m Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic.
Newcastle are also putting their January transfer plans into place, with reports linking them to Inter’s Marcelo Brozovic and Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule.
We’ve also the very latest on Chelsea’s transfer plans, while Romelu Lukaku is a major doubt for the clash with Juventus.

    BACK ONLINE
Jack Grealish has resurfaced despite sitting out Manchester City’s clash with Everton after picking up a knock on international duty.
The England star had been keeping a low profile while his name hit the headlines when his love triangle drama emerged in The Sun.
He remained tight-lipped on his social media accounts as reports connected him to a series of glamorous women.
But the 26-year-old broke cover on Sunday when he posted a clip on Instagram from the Etihad stands… with three blue love hearts.
Grealish watched on as City trounced Everton 3-0 to go second in the Premier League.

    FEELING BLUE
James Rodriguez debuted a shock new turquoise hairstyle – much to the amusement of fellow football stars.
The ex-Everton and Real Madrid playmaker unveiled the electric new look on his social media accounts.
And footballing pals couldn’t wait to let him know what they thought of his colourful barnet.
Fellow Colombia international Radamel Falcoa replied simply: “What happened there?!”
Ex-Monaco team-mate Joao Moutinho likened him to Dragon Ball Z character Goku – famed for his changing hair colour.
And Ex-Bayern Munich colleague Arturo Vidal commented with a brutal combination of shocked and laughing emojis.
    DIMITRI DISTRESS
Dimitri Payet admitted he is ‘afraid to take corners’ ever again after a Lyon yob threw a bottle at his head.
The Marseille star, 34, was heading over to take the set piece just four minutes into Sunday evening’s Ligue 1 game.
But a full bottle of water smashed him across the face, leaving him needing medical treatment.
As reported by L’Equipe, Payet filed a charge of ‘aggravated willful violence’ against the supporter.
Police visited the Marseille training ground on Monday to take the ex-West Ham man’s statement.
He told the authorities: “We had just started the match when I received a full plastic water bottle at the level of the skull and more precisely at the level of the left ear.
“I immediately felt a sharp pain and fell to the ground. I was stunned.
“I don’t know where the bottle came from. I did not see the perpetrator.
“I stayed several minutes on the ground, the pain was intense.
“I am now afraid of taking corners when I play away.”

    POWER SERG
Sergio Ramos’s Paris Saint-Germain career could finally be about to get underway.
The defender has been crocked with a calf injury since moving to the Ligue 1 leaders last summer.
The ex-Real Madrid star is yet to make an appearance in Mauricio Pochettino’s star-studded side.
But that could finally be about to change after he was named in the squad to face Manchester City on Wednesday.
Ramos made a whopping 671 appearances during a 16-year spell at Real.
He moved to the French capital this summer alongside other blockbuster signings such as Lionel Messi and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
    NO WORDS
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was lost for words when asked for his opinion on Manchester United’s manager debacle.
Ex-United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was given the sack on the weekend and the Red Devils have been linked with a string of names like Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane.
But when asked who he thinks will get the United vacant position, Klopp had nothing to say, insisting that the Red Devils were the last thing on his mind.
He said: “Sorry, I’m really not prepared for that question. I didn’t think about Man Utd for a second and I didn’t think about what impact the manager has, should have or whatever.
“It’s six years since I had to think about these kind of things, sorry. It was a long question and I don’t have an answer for that.”
    FAMILY PLANNING
John Terry revealed the brilliant advice Dean Smith gave him after hammering a player struggling with secret family issues.
Terry, 40, was Smith’s assistant for three years at Aston Villa before leaving the role in the summer.
JT learnt a lot from the new Norwich boss, especially when it came to man management, as he takes his own steps towards becoming a No1 in the dugout.
The Chelsea legend appeared as a pundit on beIN Sports and recalled the classy story.
“I won’t name the player but [I was] working as an assistant at Aston Villa under Dean, who thinks about the players constantly, the lads love him and it’s obviously a shame he lost his job.
“We were training and I wasn’t happy with one particular player. I kind of dug him out and had a one-on-one.
“I said to the gaffer, ‘I’m not happy’. He said, ‘OK, explain it to him.’
“I sat him down and basically went mad at him. I said, ‘Not good enough, you’re not in the team, that’s not going to get you in the team performing like that.’
“He came back, we had a little debate. I told the manager and he said, ‘Have you asked him about his family life?’
“It didn’t even enter my head, not at all. The next morning, I texted him and said, ‘Get in early, we’ll have a bit of breakfast.’
“It was during Covid, his family were away, he’d not seen his mum and dad, he’d just had a baby and I was like, ‘Wow.’ I learnt so much working under Dean for those little bits.
“We ended up giving him a day off so he could spend time with his family.
“It was incredible – after that he was like a new player, fighting to get back in the team. Again, it’s man management.
“You need a touch nowadays, a soft side.”
    POR BLIMEY
Man City’s forgotten man Pedro Porro is being chased by Real Madrid, according to reports.
The full-back, 22, has never played for City’s first team since joining for £11million from Girona in 2019.
He has spent all of his time out on loan, first at Real Valladolid, before agreeing a two-year switch to Sporting Lisbon last year.
Porro has impressed in Portugal, with Sporting possessing an option to make the deal permanent for around £7m.
According to O Jogo, however, they are struggling to raise the funds to meet City’s asking price.
Also complicating matters is interest from Real Madrid.
    HELP TO BUY
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has made a public promise to new boss Antonio Conte – despite revealing the huge cost of Covid.
With a small number of fans allowed in to just two Prem games last season, Spurs saw gate income fall by more than £92million to less than £2m.
The N17 clubs missed out on around £6m in income for every home game played behind closed doors, contributing to a total revenue fall of £60m – to £362m – and losses of £80m.
But in his chairman’s message published alongside the official financial results, Levy referred to the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo, appointment of Italian Conte and the club’s ambitions.
Levy said: “It is far from ideal to make changes to coaching staff.
“However, we have acted swiftly and decisively when we felt it necessary, always looking to act in the best interests of the Club.
“The appointments of Fabio Paratici as managing director of football and Antonio are a clear demonstration of our intent and ambition.
“Since opening the stadium in April, 2019, we have spent almost £400m on players.
“Player spending is no guarantee of success, and our focus must be on improved recruitment, coaching, fitness and a competitive mindset.
“Fabio continued the rebuild in the summer, resulting in the average age of our new summer signings being 22 years compared to the average age of 31 years for the outgoing players.
“We shall also look to continue the well-established path for youngsters from our Academy to our First Team.
“I know that Antonio’s approach is if a player is good enough, he will play, regardless of status or age.”
    MARC MY WORDS
Marc Overmars is reportedly unwilling to make the move from Ajax to become Newcastle’s director of football.
The Arsenal legend, who won the Premier League and FA Cup in the 1997-98 season, has been linked with relocating to Tyneside following the club’s £300million takeover.
But according to De Telegraaf, Overmars will NOT be joining Newcastle any time soon, as he ‘isn’t interested’ in the job.
They have even stated that the former Barcelona winger has not taken up the Toon’s invite to have a conversation with him.
    HOME GROWN
Pau Torres refused to give up on Villarreal despite multi-million pound interest from Tottenham this summer.
The defender was a top target in North London as Spurs looked to rebuild under then-manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
But the 24-year-old has revealed the prospect of playing in Europe with his boyhood club was enough for him to snub a Premier League move.
He told the Guardian: “The pull of playing the Champions League with the team from my town was bigger. I was clear from the start.
“This is only the fourth time Villarreal reached the Champions League, which shows how hard it is and it was a dream to play the competition with my lifelong club.
“The president didn’t put pressure on me, even though they could make a lot of money.
“He always said “the decision’s yours,” that he’d respect it. I appreciate that.”
    NOT THE BEST
Mo Salah’s still got a long way to go before he can be called the best player in the world, according to ex-Manchester United star Kleberson.
Salah’s scintillating form for Liverpool this season has seen critics label him the world’s best.
But Kleberson’s not convinced the Egyptian’s done more than the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo or Neymar to be given the accolade.
He told Paddy Power: “Mohamed Salah isn’t the best player in the world, but he’s been consistently brilliant.
“For a long time now, he’s played excellent football. He certainly isn’t a one season wonder and I can understand why Jürgen Klopp called him the best in Europe.
“Beside Salah, Liverpool have a good team that provides great support, and he looks happy there.
“Things are going well for Salah, but he’s not the best player in the world right now.
“For me, it’s tough to say who is the world’s best player because I measure it by those who play well for club and country.”
“Football has changed a lot. For many years, we had Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, and sometimes Neymar, but there’s no one who has shown more than they have.”
    COLD SHOULDER
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has accused Cesar Azpilicueta of having ‘no balls’ as he refused to apologise for his vicious shoulder charge.
Ibrahimovic clattered into the Chelsea defender during Sweden’s World Cup qualifier defeat to Spain earlier in November.
The veteran forward was booked as a result and will miss Sweden’s play-off semi-final game to qualify for next year’s Qatar tournament.
Sweden will discover their opponents when the draw is made on Friday.
But Ibrahimovic insisted he has no regrets as he claimed he was sticking up for a team-mate targeted by Azpilicueta
He told the Guardian: “The other day in the national team, I gave a tackle to (Azpilicueta). I did it on purpose.
“I’m not ashamed to say it because he did something stupid to my player. Acting big to my player.
“It was a stupid thing but I would still do it to make him understand: ‘You don’t f***ing do that.
“‘You don’t have balls to do it against me. But I will show you what happens if you do it to me.’ That’s why I did it.”
    POCH JOB
MANCHESTER UNITED are ‘confident’ of appointing Mauricio Pochettino as their next manager, according to reports.
And the Argentine is thought to be willing to make the move to Old Trafford immediately.
The Red Devils need to bring in a new boss after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday.
And Paris Saint-Germain chief Pochettino is high on their wishlist.
Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, United feel they are on course to secure a deal to land the ex-Tottenham gaffer.
However, it would cost the Old Trafford club £10million in compensation to PSG for them to release him from his contract at the Parc des Princes.
Added to the £7.5m pay-off Solskjaer received and payments for under-contract coaches, the total cost of the managerial change could be close to £20m.
The MEN report adds that United have not yet made an official approach for Poch, who is in Manchester ahead of his side’s Champions League clash against City tomorrow.
    KOP IT
Lionel Messi reckons Liverpool could win the Champions League once more this season.
The Reds have been in impressive form this season and PSG star Messi thinks they may be able to scoop the European trophy if they keep it up, just like they did in 2019.
But the Argentine wouldn’t rule out several European sides including Liverpool’s rivals Manchester City to win the coveted trophy.
He said to Marca: “Today, Liverpool is very well, it has returned to being the Liverpool that won the Champions League.
“Then there are [Manchester] City, Bayern [Munich], [Real] Madrid, Atlético [Madrid]…
“There are many teams that can fight for this Champions League, which is one of the most even and competitive in recent years because there are several teams that can choose to win it.”
    THE LONG CON
Conor Gallagher is insistent that he is not just playing at Crystal Palace to put himself in ‘the shop window’.
The Chelsea youngster has thrived at Selhurst Park, earning an England debut with his brilliant displays.
Gallagher, 21, has put teams on notice after wowing for Palace.
But it is at Stamford Bridge where he still dreams of shining brightest.
    NO FROM LEO
Lionel Messi will not complete a dream return to Barcelona any time soon after Joan Laporta took a sly dig at him during Dani Alves’ presentation.
According to Spanish papers AS and Fichajes, Messi has no intention of returning to the Nou Camp and is determined to stick it out at PSG.
Messi’s former team-mate Dani Alves, 38, completed a sensational return to the Catalan giants earlier this month, having initially left the club five years ago.
And at the Brazilian defender’s presentation, president Laporta, 59, appeared to suggest there was a possibility that Messi could return to Barca.
And though it appears the door is well and truly open for a return to the Nou Camp one day, reports in Spain suggest Messi is too ‘proud’ to quit PSG.
It is claimed that his ambition is to win the Champions League and he is prepared to ‘endure’ life in Paris, even if he is ‘not happy or comfortable’.
    ANSU RAID
Barcelona star Ansu Fati’s home was burgled for money, watches and expensive jewellery as he watched his team beat rivals Espanyol.
The 19-year-old reported Saturday night’s break-in himself at a police station in Sant Cugat del Valles north of the Catalan capital on Monday.
Family members raised the alarm around 10pm on Saturday after hearing noises coming from an upstairs room while enjoying Barcelona’s 1-0 win in Xavi’s first home game in charge downstairs.
Police rushed to the property but the burglars had already fled with the valuables by the time they arrived.
Fati, currently out injured in a new setback following his return from a knee injury that kept him out for ten months, was in the Nou Camp stands at the time.
    TAKE ZLAT
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has told former club Manchester United to stop banging on about the past.
The Red Devils are searching for a new manager after sacking club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday.
The Norwegian was a star of the Sir Alex Ferguson era but United have not won the Premier League since the Scot retired in 2013.
And Ibrahimovic, who spent two years at Old Trafford from 2016, has called on the club to stop relying on its history for inspiration.
He told the Guardian: “They talk too much about the past. When I went there I said: ‘I’m here to focus on the present and to make my own story.’
“But when you have too much it becomes like a loop. You have to think about the present or you should go to a hospital and clean your head.”
    NEW ERA
Manchester United begin the post-Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era with a tough Champions League clash away at Villarreal TONIGHT – but take note of the kick-off time.
Solskjaer was sacked by the club at the weekend following their 4-1 loss to Watford in the Premier League.
Michael Carrick was confirmed as temporary boss while United look for an interim manager to lead the side for the remainder of the season.
And Carrick’s first job is to ensure the Red Devils take a giant leap toward qualification to the last-16 of Europe’s elite competition.
The last time the two sides played, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a 90th-minute winner at Old Trafford.
But it was back in May when the Spanish team, led by Unai Emery, defeated United on penalties in the Europa League final.
    LACA URGENCY
Arsenal will not discuss a new contract with Alex Lacazette until the end of the season – even if they risk losing him for nothing, writes MARK IRWIN.
The striker, 30, is in the final few months of his £200,000-a-week deal and can open talks with overseas clubs in January.
Boss Mikel Arteta has not ruled out extending the France international’s stay but said: “We are not going to be talking about new contracts until the end of the season.”
Lacazette, a then clubrecord £52million buy when he signed from Lyon in 2017, knows he will not be short of offers.
Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Marseille and Newcastle are among those monitoring his situation.
As a free agent Lacazette could get a hefty signing fee.
Arsenal will NOT offer him a long-term deal on his current salary but possibly a 12-month contract.
However, Lacazette is not impressed by the club’s lack of urgency in sorting out his future.
    POCHETTINO’S RECORD AT PSG
Here is how the Argentinian has gotten on at Paris Saint-Germain as he aims to face Manchester City in the Champions League tomorrow night.
If you believe reports, Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping to make his stay in Manchester much longer though, if United can persuade him to quit PSG for them.

    UNAI SORRY FOR OLE
Unai Emery says he feels sympathy for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after his axe at Manchester United.
The Villarreal boss beat Solskjaer’s side in May’s Europa League final – the closest they came to silverware under the Norwegian.
Now former Arsenal chief Emery wants to leave United on the brink of a Champions League exit tonight.
But he said: “As a coach, you don’t welcome the news that a colleague has lost his job.
“I have a lot of respect for Solskjaer because of his playing and coaching career.
“I’ve faced Solskjaer several times and above all, I value him as a great person.
“When there’s a coaching change, there’s a reaction one way or another.
“The players know, even though they are professional and must always deliver, that they have to show their faces, for Manchester, for the coach that left and the one that has arrived or will come.
“I expect a very good Manchester United because of their players and the significance of this game.”
    BACK PAGE HEADLINES
SunSport has led today’s paper on Harry Maguire revealing what the players said to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before he left Manchester United.
And of course news of Gareth Southgate’s new England contract.

    GOOD MORNING FOOTY FANS
England manager Gareth Southgate has officially signed a new double-your-money £6million contract until December 2024, the FA has confirmed.
Southgate’s assistant Steve Holland has also penned a new deal, keeping the pair in charge of the Three Lions through until after the next European Championship.
The English head coach has been in charge at St George’s Park since 2016, when he stepped up from his role with the Under-21s to replace Sam Allardyce.
And the 51-year-old has since taken England to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2018 and the final of Euro 2020, as well as recently sealing qualification for Qatar 2022.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino is open to taking over at Manchester United.
That is according to Manchester Evening News, who also report that Pochettino is prepared to join United mid-season.
The same reports claim the Argentine coach always had the ambition of managing the Red Devils.
The former Tottenham boss was the board’s top choice to replace Jose Mourinho in 2018 but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won them over during his stint as caretaker manager.
But Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has also been contacted by United after Solskjaer’s dismissal, according to SunSport’s Neil Custis.
The Red Devils are also prepared to splash £8million in compensation to the Foxes for Rodgers.
The former Liverpool head coach has a clause in his contract letting him speak to certain clubs if they come knocking — and the Manchester giants are among them.
Solskjaer was sacked on Sunday morning following a poor start to the campaign.
Finally, Arsenal will not discuss a new deal with Alexandre Lacazette until the end of the season even though they risk losing him for nothing in the summer, according to SunSport’s Mark Irwin.
Lacazette is in the final few months of his £200,000-a-week contract and will be free to open talks with overseas clubs in January.
Manager Mikel Arteta has not ruled out the possibility of extending the centre-forward’s deal but wants to put negotiations on hold for now.
That is a major transfer boost for Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Marseille and Newcastle, who are among the clubs monitoring the France international.
    ZINEDINE ZI-DONE
Zinedine Zidane is not interested in becoming the next Manchester United head coach.
That is according to BBC Sport, who claim that Zidane is not keen on replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the United dugout.
The Red Devils have reportedly made contact with the ex-Real Madrid manager, who is currently a free agent.
The French head coach experienced immense success at Real as he won two LaLiga titles and three consecutive Champions League trophies

    NEV-ER SAY NEVER
Gary Neville believes Mauricio Pochettino would quit Paris Saint-Germain for Manchester United in an instant.
Neville told Sky Sports: “I think Mauricio Pochettino — although he’d never say it — would leave to come to Man United on a five-year deal tomorrow.
“He’d look at that group of players, he’d look at the club and he’d realise he’d probably be able to achieve more than he wants at Man United in terms of a project.
“At PSG you are on season by season, ‘you’ve got to win the Champions League or you’re out’ — type of model. I don’t think that suits Pochettino. I think he would absolutely come to Man United on a five-year deal, with backing behind him”

    MAN UTD TEAM NEWS
Manchester United face Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday at the Madrigal.
This marks United’s first game following former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal and so Michael Carrick has been placed in charge for the time being.
Carrick will be without Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane, who are out with a tendon, thigh, head and hamstring injury respectively.
Mason Greenwood is also unavailable as he recently tested positive for COVID-19
    ‘IT SNOWBALLED’
Paul Merson stated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign as Manchester United manager was ruined by Cristiano Ronaldo’s comeback.
Merson told Sky Sports: “I feel sorry for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
“He had a plan at the start of the season, having finished second last season.
“He’s chased Jadon Sancho for a long time, got him in, and he’s given Edinson Cavani another year.
“Then, just before the season starts, he gets given Ronaldo. I think he’s thrown it all out of the window. From day one, they’re not a better team with Ronaldo in it.
“You don’t go 29 games unbeaten away without playing a certain way, and bringing Sancho in gave them another weapon to play that way.
“With Ronaldo up there, you don’t have that weapon to play on the counter-attack any more.
“It’s all snowballed for Solskjaer. He had a plan, and the Ronaldo situation threw it all out of the window, just before the season started.
“They only went for him because they heard Man City were after him.
“It’s not like United were calling Juventus to ask if he’s available because Ronaldo is the missing link for United winning the Premier League. He isn’t!”
    OUT OF LAC
Arsenal will not discuss a new deal with Alexandre Lacazette until the end of the season even though they risk losing him for nothing in the summer, according to SunSport’s Mark Irwin.
Lacazette is in the final few months of his £200,000-a-week contract and will be free to open talks with overseas clubs in January.
Manager Mikel Arteta has not ruled out the possibility of extending the centre-forward’s deal but wants to put negotiations on hold for now.
That is a major transfer boost for Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Marseille and Newcastle, who are among the clubs monitoring the France international

    MAUR UPDATES
Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino is ready to quit the Parc des Princes and take over at Manchester United.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who report that Pochettino is prepared to return to the UK and replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the helm.
That is because they claim the Argentine head coach is currently staying in a hotel in Paris, while his family still live in England following his six years here coaching Southampton and Tottenham.
United dismissed Solskjaer following a poor start to the season despite a successful summer transfer window
    RODGERS AND OUT
Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has been contacted by Manchester United after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal, according to SunSport’s Neil Custis.
United are also prepared to splash £8million in compensation to the Foxes for Rodgers.
The former Liverpool head coach has a clause in his contract letting him speak to certain clubs if they come knocking — and the Red Devils are among them.
Solskjaer was sacked on Sunday morning following a poor start to the campaign
    GAME OF KESS
Arsenal have joined Tottenham and Manchester United in the transfer war for AC Milan star Franck Kessie.
That is according to the Daily Mirror, who claim the Gunners will go toe-to-toe with European juggernauts to sign Kessie.
The 24-year-old midfielder’s deal at Milan expires next summer when he becomes a free agent.
The Ivory international can put pen to paper on a pre-contract from January 1
    WES SIDE STORY
Chelsea are still holding talks with Leicester ace Wesley Fofana ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Blues are looking for a centre-back as they have four key defenders out of contract at the end of this season – those are Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva and captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
And according to Footmercato, the west Londoners are eyeing Fofana as a potential replacement should any of the aforementioned players walk out of the club.
However, Chelsea would face stiff competition from a host of top European clubs, such as Manchester United and Real Madrid

England manager Gareth Southgate praised his coaching team after signing a new deal with the FA.
Southgate said: “I am delighted that Steve [Holland] and I have been able to extend our stay in our respective roles. It remains an incredible privilege to lead this team.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark [technical director], John [McDermott] and the Board for their support – and of course the players and support team for their hard work.

    VLA VA TOON
Newcastle are set to join the bidding war for Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic, reveals SunSport’s Alan Nixon.
The Magpies are on extra alert for players abroad as they will find it hard to land Premier League talent from rivals.
That is why Toon spies watched Vlahovic in action during the international break as he helped Serbia qualify for the 2022 World Cup by beating Portugal.
The striker could be sold in the January transfer window if the price is right, with reports suggesting he will cost £70million.
Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham are said to also be keeping tabs on the 21-year-old
    SOUTHGATE REMINDER
    ALL BARK, NO BITE
Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley reportedly has a number of keen Premier League suitors who will go head-to-head to secure his signature in January.
The 27-year-old has only had 126 minutes of Premier League action so far this season and Leeds are thought to be the frontrunners to land him in January.
Marcelo Bielsa’s injury depleted side find themselves one place above the relegation zone after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Spurs.
And according to the Daily Mail, Leeds are closely monitoring Barkley’s situation at Stamford Bridge with a view to making a move in January.
Relegation-threatened Burnley are believed to be interested in acquiring the former England international’s signature, with Newcastle also reportedly keen.
Barkley could favour a move to Elland Road though, having played for the club briefly back in 2013 on loan from Everton.
The 33-cap England international made four appearances for Leeds under then boss Neil Warnock.

    CHELSEA DOUBTS
Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz are both doubts for Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Juventus tomorrow.
The Belgian has been out for several weeks with an ankle injury picked up in a 4-0 win against Malmo last month.
He missed out on Chelsea’s 3-0 win against Leicester on Saturday and is not expected to return in time to start their clash with Juventus tomorrow.
He could be available from the bench, however, with several other key players potentially unavailable through injury.
Speaking about Lukaku, Tuchel said: “We will not rush things. We will take things seriously as always, we will have talks with the doctor and the physios and the player, and if there is something to be decided it will be on Monday evening.”
Havertz picked up a hamstring injury in the win against Leicester and is a doubt, but his fellow countryman Timo Werner could return to the starting line-up.
Mateo Kovacic is still injured, but Christian Pulisic should be available once again after featuring against Leicester from the bench on Saturday.
‘I TAKE THAT AS A COMPLIMENT’
Tottenham fans booed their side as they trailed 1-0 to Leeds thanks to a Dan James goal in the first half of yesterday’s 2-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Second half strikes by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Sergio Reguilon eventually saw the North Londoners complete a fine comeback, inflicting Leeds’ fifth league defeat of the season.
Speaking about the booing, Hojbjerg said: “I kind of understand the boos… I hope it won’t happen again but I understand there are high demands, high pressure.
“The fans have great expectations because we’re a great team, so I take that as a compliment.
“We’re here to perform well and let the fans celebrate, which is the main thing. We did that in the second half and the fans were incredible in the second half also, so let’s try to do that from the start.”
He added: “I think the reaction after the game and the second goal showed how much it means to us.
“Technically, it wasn’t a perfect game from us. There were a couple of mistakes and I have to say the way Leeds play is very demanding and very aggressive. They cause these individual mistakes.
“But I thought collectively we came out for the second half very aggressively, on top with a good attitude. We got the stadium with us, with fantastic support.
“To come back the way we did, from a character and mental point of view, I thought was very important and very strong.”

“We have a great opportunity in front of us and I know they and the fans are all excited about what this squad could achieve in future.”
Southgate is now the fourth longest-serving England manager of all-time with 68 games under his belt and an impressive win-rate of 64.7 percent.
He was also awarded an OBE in the Queen’s 2019 New Year Honours list and will continue his quest for silverware in Qatar next year and Germany in 2024.
    THREE OF A KIND
Antoine Griezmann has recently spoken about how much he enjoys playing alongside Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema for the French national team.
The Atletico Madrid striker said: “Sometimes I stopped in the middle of the field to watch them play: it was wonderful!
“The more they associate, the better it will be for us, because we create spaces, chances and goals.”
Griezmann and Mbappe won the World Cup together for France in 2018, with Benzema still out in the cold from the national team at the time.
But the Real Madrid striker was welcomed back into the fold for Les Bleus for Euro 2020 and formed part of a fearsome trio involving Griezmann and Mbappe.
They had a disappointing Euro 2020 campaign after being knocked out by Switzerland in the round of 16, with Mbappe missing the deciding penalty.
But they bounced back to win the Nations League in October, coming from behind to beat Spain 2-1.
Mbappe and Benzema both scored to earn France yet another trophy and they will go into the World Cup in Qatar next year as one of the hot favourites.
Although, Griezmann could end up facing Mbappe and Benzema next season if the PSG star’s long-awaited move to Real Madrid finally comes to fruition.

    GOLDEN BOY
Barcelona and Spain midfielder Pedri has won the 2021 Golden Boy award.
The 18-year-old has been named as the winner of the coveted prize for Europe’s best young player for this year.
And has beat out the likes of Phil Foden, Eduardo Camavinga, Mason Greenwood, Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham.
The Barca midfielder made 52 appearances in all competitions for La Blaugrana last season and has become a key player for them since joining in 2020.
Pedri joined the Catalan club from Las Palmas for just £4.2m and has since gone on to earn 10 Spain caps.
He starred in their team that reached the Euro 2020 semi-final and was named in the team of the tournament as well as being young player of the tournament.
Pedri then featured in Spain’s Tokyo 2020 Olympics side, who were beaten 2-1 in the final by Brazil after extra-time.
Previous winners include Erling Haaland, Joao Felix, Matthijs de Ligt, Kylian Mbappe and Renato Sanches.

    GOOD CHRISTIAN
Chelsea outcast Christian Pulisic is a target for Liverpool, according to the Daily Star.
The American has missed the majority of the season so far after suffering from a bout of coronavirus, as well as picking up an ankle injury on international duty.
As a result, he has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and could find regular first-team football hard to come by in the coming months.
Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Pulisic, and reportedly sees him as a long-term replacement for either Sadio Mane, 29, or Mo Salah, 30.
Salah is thought to be a target for both PSG and Real Madrid and contract talks with the Egyptian have stalled – with his current deal running out in 2023.
Pulisic, still only 23, is now in his third season at Chelsea, but has so far failed to live up to the huge expectations placed on him as Eden Hazard’s replacement.
He cost around £60m back in 2019 and is thought to be exactly the mould of attacking player that Liverpool look for – energetic, direct and technically gifted.
But Chelsea could be reluctant to sell to a Premier League title rival, which could force Liverpool to turn their attention to Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma.
Danjuma, who has previously played in the Premier League for Bournemouth, is a Dutch international and would reportedly be keen on a return to England.
    GONE IN A WINK
Spurs midfielder Harry Winks, 25, is reportedly a key transfer target for Eddie Howe at Newcastle in January, who is desperate to shore up his midfield.
The 10-cap England international fell out of favour at Tottenham under Nuno Espirito Santo, starting just one of Spurs’ opening 11 league games.
But Winks played the whole 90 minutes in Spurs’ 2-1 victory over Leeds at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium yesterday under new boss Antonio Conte.
Conte and Spurs’ director of football Fabio Paratici will likely have a decision to make in January whether they should hold onto Winks, or let him leave.
The player is reportedly desperate for first-team football and could try to force through a move from his boyhood club if he continues to be left out.
But his preference would be to stay in North London and Conte is said to be willing to give Winks a chance to revive his Spurs career in the coming weeks.

Inter Milan star Marcelo Brozovic is out of contract in the summer and is reportedly wanted by a number of clubs, including Newcastle and Spurs.
Man Utd and PSG are also thought to be interested in the 29-year-old Croatian midfielder.
But it now looks like he is close to renewing his deal at the San Siro, after more than six years at the club.
He has racked up over 200 appearances for last year’s Serie A winners and the club are desperate to hold onto him.
Inter CEO Guiseppe Marotta told DAZN: “I hope Marcelo Brozovic will stay and extend his contract.

The German giants reportedly see him as the ideal long-term replacement for Thomas Muller.
But the 22-year-old has no intention of leaving, SunSport understands.
And Chelsea would not entertain any offers for him, with boss Thomas Tuchel viewing Mount as a crucial player – for now and the future.
Since breaking through in 2019, he has made 121 appearances for the Blues – scoring 20 goals and laying on 17 assists.
He has become an England regular as well, earning 26 caps so far for Gareth Southgate – one of which came in the Euro 2020 final earlier this year.
    GOOD MORNING FOOTY FANS
Brendan Rodgers has been contacted by Manchester United after today’s sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Red Devils are prepared to pay £8million in compensation to his current club, Leicester.
That is on top of a £7.5million payoff for Solskjaer.
Ex-Liverpool boss Rodgers has a clause in his contract letting him speak to certain clubs if they come knocking — and United are one.
Sacked Solskjaer believes whoever takes over MUST win the Premier League.
He said: “Well, as I’ve said many times in interviews, I’ve been backed.
“The board and the owners have backed me in [terms of] bringing good people in, good players in and I think, or I know I leave this club with a better squad.
“The environment is fantastic, it’s an environment I’m proud of leaving because you have to enjoy coming in here working.
“I don’t want to pre-empt anything but the two times I’ve left Molde, they’ve won the league the year after.
“So all the best to whoever takes over – that’s the expectations!”
Mikel Arteta is eyeing a rebuild at Arsenal, and RB Salzburg’s Karim Adeyemi is someone the Spaniard is interested in.
According to the Mirror, the Gunners are interested in signing the 19-year-old as a long-term replacement for Alexandre Lacazette.
Ligue 1 descended into chaos yet again as Dimitri Payet was struck in the head by a full bottle of water thrown from the stands leading to the match being abandoned.
Payet, 34, headed over to take a corner for Marseille just four minutes into their clash away at Lyon on Sunday night.
But as he prepared to take the kick, a thug in the home end hurled the plastic bottle.
Leeds United are reportedly targeting Chelsea outcast Ross Barkley, who has only played 126 minutes of Premier League football this term.
According to the Daily Mail, Leeds are monitoring Barkley’s situation at Chelsea ahead of a possible January transfer.
Barkley has only played 126 minutes this term in the league, failing to register a goal or an assist.
    EXCLUSIVE: RODGERS…AND OUT
Brendan Rodgers has been contacted by Manchester United after today’s sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, writes NEIL CUSTIS.
Solskjaer, 48, was fired this morning after nearly three years in charge.
The decision was made within 30 minutes of United’s 4-1 defeat at Watford on Saturday.
SunSport revealed last month that United were making plans to identify the Norwegian’s successor.
A leading agent had been asked to sound out Northern Irishman Rodgers, 48 — as well as Antonio Conte, Ajax’s Erik Ten Hag and ex-Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.
    PAYET PELTED
Ligue 1 descended into chaos yet again as Dimitri Payet was struck in the head by a full bottle of water thrown from the stands leading to the match being abandoned, writes JOSHUA JONES.
Payet, 34, headed over to take a corner for Marseille just four minutes into their clash away at Lyon on Sunday night.
But as he prepared to take the kick, a thug in the home end hurled the plastic bottle.
And it whacked the former West Ham man across the cheek.
A stunned Payet took a couple of steps before collapsing to the ground, clutching his face.
Marseille players rushed over to defend their team-mate while Lyon’s stars pleaded with their own fans to stop.
    KARIM THE DREAM
Mikel Arteta is eyeing a rebuild at Arsenal, and RB Salzburg’s Karim Adeyemi is someone the Spaniard is interested in.
According to the Mirror, the Gunners are interested in signing the 19-year-old as a long-term replacement for Alexandre Lacazette.
The Frenchman’s contract expires next summer and is showing no signs of putting pen to paper on fresh terms.
But it is claimed to land Adeyemi, Arsenal will need European football.
    ‘THANK YOU’
Mason Greenwood has took to Twitter to react to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking.
The academy product said: “Thankyou for everything boss.”

    MYSTIC MEG
Manchester United legend Roy Keane famously predicted the players would throw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under the bus, writes JOSHUA MBU.
And United’s recent results and some members of the team’s individual performances suggest the Irishman is right.
Keane said back in 2019: “I don’t think his job is under pressure but he’s under pressure and he’s not getting the results and the performances.
“I’m always intrigued after games when managers say: ‘they will be up for the next game’. You have to be up for every game. I don’t care whether its Man United or Altrincham.
“I don’t fall for the things said that they will now play well. These are the same players who threw Mourinho under the boss and they will do the same to Ole.
    “Leopards don’t change their spots.
“There are too many bluffers at this club to get United back to the very top.
“The fact we are saying United are going for fourth shows how the standards have dropped and they are in free fall, on and off the pitch.”
    ARE BRU JOKING
Manchester United should consider appointing Steve Bruce to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to Sol Campbell’s bombshell claim.
The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new manager after sacking the Norwegian on Sunday morning.
And former Arsenal and England defender Campbell reckons Bruce could be the solution until the end of the season.
The former Macclesfield and Southend chief, 47, told Premier League Productions: “I think it’s a sticky situation really.
“Do they stick or move? If they move it’s costing a lot of money.
“To move Ole on and to bring someone in, it’s a lot of money.
“I know they’ve got a lot of money to spend but you’ve got to look at the books and you’ve got to look at where they are.
“Maybe is a Steve Bruce good? For just six months? I don’t know. Who knows?
“But it’s a real kind of sticky wicket big time, because either they stick or move. Whatever they do, it might be the wrong answer.”
    AN-TENTION TO DETAIL
Antonio Conte’s attention to detail has been labelled ‘unreal’ after ordering the touchline to be groomed by hand.
Ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League clash on Sunday against Leeds, groundsman could be seen on their hands and knees attending to the grass.
Reporter Geoff Shreeves shared a video of it happening to Twitter with the caption: “We know Antonio Conte is big on detail but this is unreal!
    “Sideline being groomed by hand.”
But the 26-year-old broke cover on Sunday when he posted a clip on Instagram from the Etihad stands as he took his seat for City’s 3-0 victory over Everton.

    SOB STORY
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer choked back the tears in one last Manchester United interview after being given the chop at Old Trafford.
The emotional ex-boss admitted he knew his days were numbered as his United side won just once in their last seven Premier League games.
And he voiced his support for his assistant Michael Carrick, who has been installed as caretaker as club officials look for an interim manager until the summer.
A tearful Solskjaer said: “You know what this club means to me and what I wanted to achieve here. For the club, for the fans, for the players, for the staff.
“I wanted us to take the next step to challenge for the league, to win trophies and I only think it’s right that it comes from the horse’s mouth.
“This club means everything to me and together we’re a good match, but unfortunately I couldn’t get the results we needed and it’s time for me to step aside.”
    ROSS REVIVAL
Leeds United are reportedly targeting Chelsea outcast Ross Barkley, who has only played 126 minutes of Premier League football this term.
According to the Daily Mail, Leeds are monitoring Barkley’s situation at Chelsea ahead of a possible January transfer.
The Englishman was an unused substitute in Saturday’s 3-0 convincing win over Leicester City.
And Barkley has only played 126 minutes this term in the league, failing to register a goal or an assist.
Barkley – who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa – has a number of Prem suitors.
    YOUNG LEADER
Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has hailed Ashley Young as an outstanding example for the young players at the club.
He said: “I know Ashley extremely well and he’s been absolutely outstanding since we walked through the door.
“Not just on the training pitch but his leadership and standard-setting.”
“We see players like him as an outer-layer of the staff, if you like, who really help us when we need to lean on him.
He was ready today and the big thing about Ash is he can play right-back, left-back, he can play as an eight, a 10 or wide.
That’s what good players allow you to do as a manager, allow you to play in different ways.”
    CONOR CREDIT
Conor McGregor heaped praise on ‘icon, inspiration, hero, legend’ Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following his sacking.
The Norwegian was axed by Manchester United on Sunday morning following his side’s latest horror show, this time at Watford.
But UFC superstar and massive Red Devils fan McGregor was quick to laud Solskjaer.
And the Irishman will forever hold the dismissed manager in high regard, especially after the 1999 Champions League heroics.
McGregor, tipped to buy shares in the Old Trafford club in April, tweeted on Sunday lunchtime: “I want to give a major shout out, and a huge thank you to the living legend that is Ole Gunnar Solskjær!
“Ole you are forever, Sir! Icon! Inspiration! Hero! Legend! Thank you Ole.”

Tottenham vs Leeds LIVE: Stream, score, TV channel, team news confirmed for Conte’s first home Prem game – latest

ANTONIO CONTE will be hoping for his first Premier League win as Tottenham boss when his side take on Leeds today in north London. The Italian could only guide his side to a draw in his first league clash with Everton two weeks ago, so will be hoping for a response form his players.

    Start time: 4.30pm GMT
TV/Live stream: Sky Sports Main Event & Premier League
Tottenham XI: Lloris, Reguilon, Davies, Tanganga, Dier, Emerson, Hojbjerg, Winks, Moura, Son, Kane.
Leeds XI: Meslier, Dallas, Llorente, Cooper, Struijk, Phillips, Forshaw, James, Klich, Harrison, Gelhardt

Follow ALL the action with our live blog below…
    226 MINUTES AND COUNTING
Spurs failed to register an attempt on target in both Nuno Espirito Santo’s final game in charge – the 3-0 home defeat to Manchester United – and Antonio Conte’s first, the goalless draw at Everton.
In total, it’s five consecutive halves of football without a shot on target for the North London outfit, a worrying total of 226 minutes.
Since Opta began recording detailed shot data during the 2003-04 campaign, no side has ever failed to have a shot on target in three consecutive Premier League games.
To dare is to dream, indeed.

    LEEDS UNITED SUBSTITUTES
    13 Klaesson, 3 Firpo, 11 Roberts, 35 Cresswell, 37 Drameh, 39 McKinstry, 42 Greenwood, 25 McCarron, 47 Jenkins
    LEEDS UNITED XI
As suggested, there is no Raphinha in the Leeds squad this afternoon – nor is there Rodrigo – meaning Leeds are without arguably their two most important players. Their absence are the only two changes made by Marcelo Bielsa, who brings in Mateusz Klich and 19-year-old Joe Gelhardt. The teenager has impressed off the bench recently, and has now been rewarded with his first Premier League start at the head of Leeds’ 4-2-3-1 shape. The visitors’ lack of depth is highlighted by a substitutes’ bench that includes five 19-year-olds and two 20-year-olds.
    1 Meslier; 15 Dallas, 14 Llorente, 6 Cooper, 21 Struijk; 23 Phillips; 4 Forshaw; 20 James, 43 Klich, 22 Harrison; 30 Gelhardt

    TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR SUBSTITUTES
    22 Gollini, 2 Doherty, 6 Sanchez, 11 Gil, 14 Rodon, 19 Sessegnon, 20 Dele, 23 Bergwijn, 28 Ndombele
    TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR XI
It’s two changes for Tottenham following their goalless draw at Everton a fortnight ago. Centre-back Cristian Romero is injured and is expected out for the next few weeks, and is replaced in the back three by Japhet Tanganga. In midfield, Oliver Skipp is suspended after collecting five yellow cards so Harry Winks partners Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Antonio Conte again opts for his trademark 3-4-3 formation with Emerson Royal and Sergio Reguilon putting in the yards on either flank.
    1 Lloris; 25 Tanganga, 15 Dier, 33 Davies; 12 Emerson, 5 Hojbjerg, 8 Winks, 3 Reguilon; 27 Lucas Moura, 7 Son; 10 Kane

    THE TEAMSHEETS ARE IN!
    MILESTONE MEETING
This afternoon marks the 100th match between Spurs and Leeds in all competitions.
History has the clubs finely balanced, although it is the Londoners that have the edge with 37 wins to Leeds’ 33; there have been 29 draws to date.
The Yorkshire outfit were the victors when the sides last met back in May, but that was at Elland Road. It’s been 20 years since Leeds last won at Tottenham when goals from Ian Harte and Lee Bowyer overturned a Les Ferdinand strike.
Ian Harte nets a penalty in Leeds’ 2-1 win at Tottenham back in February 2001.
    RAPHINHA ABSENCE?
The Leeds United players have arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and several social media accounts associated with the Yorkshire club are reporting that there is no sign of Raphinha.
The Brazilian has been Leeds’ standout player this season, scoring five of the club’s 11 league goals, and would be a huge miss for Marcelo Bielsa’s team
    MATCH ODDS
It’s been almost three Premier League matches since a Spurs player registered an attempt on goal but, nevertheless, the hosts are odds-on to see off Leeds this afternoon.

    Spurs win 7/10
    Draw 3/1
    Leeds win 4/1

Odds from Betfair correct at the time of publication.
    LILYWHITES ON SHOW
Good afternoon and welcome to live SunSport coverage of the Premier League clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United.
It’s been a stop-start season for both of these famous old clubs but after at international break in which newcomers were able to settle into roles, and players either returned from injury or rediscovered form, today offers an opportunity to ‘go again.’
For Spurs, it’s a first Premier League home game in charge for Antonio Conte, and a chance to end their woes in front of goal.
Only Norwich have scored fewer times that Tottenham this season, and it’s been almost three games since one of their players even managed a shot on target.
Despite having two of the most talented forwards in the Premier League, those attacking deficiencies eventually did for Nuno Espirito Santo, so now it is Conte a new confidence, new philosophy, and no sauces, in charge of the team.
Leeds’ frontline has been hampered to, not least due to the prolonged absence of Patrick Bamford.
However, in Raphinha, the Yorkshire club can lay claim to one of the most in-form men in the top-flight. His five goals – three from outside the box – have kept Leeds outside of the relegation zone in this, their difficult second season among the big boys.
Kick-off in the capital is set for 4.30pm, and we’ll soon have confirmation of today’s teams as part of our pre-match preamble.
A goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium: Spurs fans haven’t seen one for a while.

Newcastle join £70m Vlahovic transfer race, Gerrard WINS first Villa match, Chelsea ‘in Fofana talks’ – updates

NEWCASTLE have reportedly joined the race to sign £70m Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic. Newcastle are also putting their January transfer plans into place, with reports linking them to Inter’s Marcelo Brozovic and Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule.
Meanwhile, Erling Haaland might be out of action injured at the moment – but that is not stopping speculation about his future.
A number of Premier League clubs are said to be circling the Dortmund superstar, with reports from Spain suggested Real Madrid are expecting him to head to England next.
Chelsea have been handed a boost with Romelu Lukaku returning to training from his recent injury, putting him in contention for a return to action this weekend.
And the Blues have resumed talks with Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana ahead of a potential summer transfer, reports say.
Get all the latest football news, updates and transfer gossip below…
    CASH WOE
Derby are a staggering £83MILLION in debt and have just £630,000 in the bank as they anxiously await a saviour.
The extent of the financial mess at County is revealed by the administrator’s official report and makes grim reading about the way former owner Mel Morris ran the rock-bottom Championship club.
A statement from Quantuma, reveals the Rams’ £83m debt does NOT include a further £153m due to the share premium account, a ‘soft loan’ from Morris who is set to write off that loss.
However, as US businessman Chris Kirchner tries to close a deal in a hurry it is obvious that the cash is running out fast at Pride Park.
Wayne Rooney’s squad have not been asked to take pay cuts yet, but unless there is a quick rescue plan that seems certain in the near future.
The administrators are currently in talks with HMRC who are waiting on £26m in tax with a further VAT bill of £554,774 to come.
American financiers MSD are due £20m but that will be repaid by Morris out of the sale of the stadium to a new buyer.
There are transfer fees of £8.3m pending to various clubs.

    NOT SO FUN
Aberdeen midfielder Funso Ojo was sent off after clashing with a Dundee United fan yesterday.
Ojo, 30, was pushed by a Dundee United supporter as he tumbled over the hoardings and into the stands at Tannadice Park.
Ojo was almost knocked off his feet and reacted angrily to the push, confronting the fan before being dragged away by his team-mates.
The United fans continued to hurl abuse at the player as he returned to the pitch, with one fan appeared to throw something at Ojo from the stands.
Dundee’s Charlie Mulgrew put his arm around Ojo in what appeared to be an attempt to calm him down.
But Ojo was nevertheless shown a second yellow card by referee Bobby Madden, leaving both sides with ten men each.
Dundee’s Calum Butcher had been sent off in the first half, and the home side eventually went on to win 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Ian Harkes.
    G-REALLY INJURED
Jack Grealish is OUT of Manchester City’s clash with Everton this afternoon with a knock sustained on international duty.
The England star has been in the headlines this week, after his love triangle drama emerged in The Sun.
We revealed last weekend that Grealish, 26, has been enjoying secret dates with former Inbetweeners star Emily Atack.
These revelations led to showdown talks with on/off girlfriend and childhood sweetheart Sasha Attwood.
It then emerged that Grealish has enjoyed dates with Love Island star Amber Gill, as well as Emily and Sasha.
But we exclusively revealed yesterday that Jack and Sasha have vowed to rise above the drama, and are plotting a future as the new ‘Posh and Becks’.
    MAN FOR THE JOB
Gary Neville reckons Mauricio Pochettino would take over at Manchester United in a heartbeat despite the turmoil at Old Trafford.
The United legend made the claim after previous boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was finally sacked following a shocking run of results.
He said on Sky Sports: “I think Mauricio Pochettino – although he’d never say it – he’d leave to come to Man United on a five-year deal tomorrow.
“He’d look at that group of players, he’d look at the club and he’d realise he’d probably be able to achieve more than he wants at Man United in terms of a project.
“At PSG you are on season by season. ‘You’ve got to win the Champions League or you’re out’ type of model. I don’t think that suits Pochettino.
“I think he would absolutely come to Man Utd on a five-year deal, with backing behind him. How he’d fit in with the current coaches who are still there and left, I’m not sure.”
    KANE PAIN
Arsenal legend Paul Merson reckons Tottenham ace Harry Kane will get back to scoring ways in the Prem against Leeds today.
Kane’s been quiet for Spurs this season upfront but after a goal-fest for England in their last run of games, Merson thinks the striker’s got the scoring bug once again.
Merson told Sky Sports: “If I was Harry Kane, I’d be licking my lips. He’ll get chances but at the same time, Leeds will get chances
“I’d be really shocked if Harry Kane doesn’t score in this game. The international break was really good for him – it doesn’t get any better than seven goals from two games.
“It could turn out to be the kick-start he needs to get his scoring boots on in the Premier League and the way Leeds United play could also work in his favour.”
    RAHEEM DREAM
Raheem Sterling has reportedly asked Manchester City to let him join Barcelona this January.
The winger has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad this season and City boss Pep Guardiola has refused to promise him more playing time.
So now Sterling and wants the chance to revamp his career with the Spanish giants under their new boss Xavi, the Daily Mail report.
Barca have expressed interest in helping Sterling salvage his career, and he reckons giving it a go at the Nou Camp would be foolish to turn down, according to the Mail.
    TEENAGE KICKS
Crewe youngster Zac Williams was awarded Man of the Match in their victory over Gillingham yesterday – and was given Jaffa Cakes as a prize.
Williams, 16, put in an impressive performance in defence for the Railwaymen as they overcame fellow League One strugglers Gillingham 2-0 at Gresty Road.
His display earned him the Man of the Match award, he was unable to be given the traditional prize of champagne as he is still underage.
He was instead hilariously given a packet of Jaffa cakes and some ready salted crisps and was pictured looking delighted with his haul post-match.
    BARC-ING BACK
Barcelona denied rumours suggesting Sergio Aguero is set to announce his retirement next week.
Aguero suffered breathing problems during Barca’s LaLiga clash with Alaves last month at the Nou Camp and was replaced by Philippe Coutinho on 42 minutes.
The Manchester City legend was taken to hospital for tests before being ruled out of action for at least three months to undergo a period of observation after being diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia.
Shocking reports from Spain later claimed the forward is going to hang up his boots in the coming days.
However, Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste denied those reports claiming that Aguero will use the next three months to decide his next move.
Yuste said: “I deny these reports. Aguero has three months to see how this anomaly evolves.”

    SHEAR TALENT
Alan Shearer reckons Jorgino and N’golo Kante can help Chelsea lift the Premier League this season.
Shearer’s in awe of the Blues’ array of central talent from their defensive to midfield and feels they work together like a well-oiled machine for the club.
Speaking on Match Of The Day, Shearer said: “They’ve got three very good centre halves they can rely on and two midfielders in Jorginho and Kante who they can rely on when the strikers go forward.
“Some of the times the full backs were playing in midfield.”
“And what you see with Jorginho and Kante is that Kante is ten yards ahead of Jorginho just in case he needs to win the ball and press again.
“Some of the play from Chelsea was absolutely superb.”
    GERRARD ON VILLA’S WIN
Steven Gerrard celebrated his side’s 2-0 win over Brighton with plenty of glee on the sidelines.
“I will always be as authentic as I can,” he said. “If anyone doubts me watch me after those goals. That is real.
“They are the buzzes, the highs you miss as a player. They are why you want to stay in the game. They are my medicine.”
    SACKED!
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been sacked as Man Utd boss after the club’s 4-1 loss to Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.

    MORNING, FOOTBALL FANS
Jurgen Klopp has had his say on the touchline spat he had with Mikel Arteta during Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Arsenal.
The pair locked horns when the Spanish boss was incensed by an aerial challenge by Sadio Mane on Takehiro Tomiyasu, insisting it was a foul.
But Klopp disagreed. “It was a completely clean situation. Two players jumped in the air. And the bench of Arsenal is going for whatever,” Klopp said.
And I just asked ‘what do you want for that?’ I’m really sick of these situations. Everyone goes for Sadio.”
Newcastle have joined the race for in-demand Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic.
The newly minted Toon Army won’t baulk at the reported £70m fee.
There was drama at Sunderland, as the club revealed they were forced to work with emergency services for a serious incident outside the stadium.
Earlier, the Black Cats had defeated Ipswich 2-0.
Finally, Lionel Messi has opened his Ligue 1 account with PSG with his 21st goal attempt.
The Argentine scored a trademark curling effort in a 3-1 win over Nantes.
    PRICE OF STERLING
Man City chiefs have dismissed any idea Raheem Sterling could join Barcelona in January.
The Catalans would love to sign Sterling and SunSport revealed they are planning a player fire sale to fund a move.
Yet even if they could raise the cash — which in itself is highly unlikely — City insiders insist there is NO chance the England striker will be heading to the Nou Camp.
Sterling, 26, is still showing no signs of penning a new deal with 18 months left on his current contract — and admitted the prospect of playing abroad does appeal.
Barca were even hoping to get him on loan in January, with financial woes meaning they cannot make any transfers until their situation improves.
But City will KO an approach of any kind and rate even the suggestion of weakening the squad by letting anyone leave in January as ‘ludicrous’.
    TOON BARMY
Newcastle will step up their interest in Serbia striker Dusan Vlahovic.
As SunSport previously revealed, they’ll be in the hunt when Fiorentina start an auction.
Toon’s top spies watched the hitman in action as his country qualified for the World Cup by beating Portugal.
Vlahovic, 21, could be sold in January if the price is right.
The fee will be large but reports of £70million are over the top, according to those near the deal.
    BAY HIM
David Moyes is revving up a move for Guinea striker Mohamed Bayo with West Ham’s new cash backing, The Sun exclusively reports.
Moyes wants an extra forward to help West Ham build on their brilliant start.
Bayo, 23, has seven goals in 12 games for Ligue 1 side Clermont this term and Southampton, Brighton and Brentford are all keen.
However, the Hammers are gearing up for a bid in January with fresh funds available after the arrival of Daniel Kretinsky, who has bought a 27 per cent stake in the club.
Clermont turned down a £7million offer from West Ham a year ago and will look for around £15m in the next window.
    STEVIE GLEE
Steven Gerrard got off to a winning start as Aston Villa boss – beating Brighton on Saturday 2-0.
And when Tyrone Mings sealed the point, the Liverpool legend was ecstatic on the bench.
“I will always be as authentic as I can,” he said.
“If anyone doubts me watch me after those goals. That is real.
“They are the buzzes, the highs you miss as a player. They are why you want to stay in the game. They are my medicine.”
    MANE MAN
Jurgen Klopp has had his say on the touchline spat he had with Mikel Arteta during Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Arsenal.
    CONT US IN
Antonio Conte has reportedly thrown Tottenham’s hat into the ring for the signature of Jesse Lingard.
The Manchester United midfielder is seen as surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
And the England international seemed destined to join West Ham, after impressing on loan last season.
But the Hammers couldn’t agree a fee with Lingard, 28, who was forced to stay at Old Trafford.
Now, Tottenham are reportedly one of six clubs who have entered the race to sign the star.
    MESSI BUSINESS
Lionel Messi finally got his first Ligue 1 goal with a spectacular effort from the edge of the box in Paris Sant-Germain’s 3-1 win over Nantes.
The Argentine was on a five-game goal drought, but turned in a stellar performance to help extend PSG’s lead at the top of the table to 13 points.
Surely it’s the first of many.

    SERIOUS INCIDENT
SUNDERLAND say they are working with emergency services following a ‘serious medical incident’ outside the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats scored two late goals at home on Saturday to beat Ipswich 2-0.
But the club tweeted after the match that a medical emergency was taking place outside their stadium.
A message from Sunderland’s ‘Stadium of Light’ account read: “We are currently working with the emergency services following a serious medical incident outside the stadium.
“Fans are advised that there may be traffic delays as a result and motorists are asked to avoid the area where possible.”
    SOLSKJAER ON THE ATTACK
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is refusing to be drawn into questions about his Man Utd future.
The Red Devils crashed to a 4-1 defeat at Vicarage Road to Watford.
The Norwegian manager was soon asked if he’s worried about losing his job, and pressure mounts.
“If the club are thinking about doing something, that’s a conversation between us and not you and me,” he revealed.

That’s according to bookmakers Betfair who’ve priced Solskjaer at 1/5 to be the SIXTH Premier League boss of the campaign to leave their position.

    BREAKING NEWS
SERGIO AGUERO is set to announce his RETIREMENT next week, according to shock reports in Spain.
Manchester City’s all-time leading goal-scorer, still only 33, suffered breathing problems during Barcelona’s clash with Alaves last month.
Aguero was taken to hospital for tests before being ruled out of action for at least three months to undergo a period of observation.
But reports in Spain are now sensationally claiming Aguero is going to hang up his boots in the coming days.
Barcelona journalist and streamer Gerard Romero revealed the news, tweeting: “Kun Aguero retires.
“Heart problems force him to leave football activity.
“A press conference has been scheduled to announce his retirement next week.”

Solskjaer sacked LIVE: Man Utd AXE club legend with Zidane and Pochettino sounded out as replacements – lates updates

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has been SACKED by Manchester United. United called an emergency board meeting following the 4-1 humiliation at Vicarage Road.
Solskjaer said now his goodbyes to his staff and players following the defeat with club chiefs to sack him within 48 hours.
The club won only once in their last seven matches after the 4-1 defeat at Watford today, and the meeting took place afterwards at 7pm.
Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has been installed as the current bookies’ favourite to take over at Old Trafford.
Follow all the latest Man Utd news, transfer and gossip from Old Trafford below…
    PROOF POINT
Manchester United will live to regret missing out on Antonio Conte, pundit Micah Richards has claimed.
The Italian was one of the favourites to take over as United officials spent the last few weeks mulling the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Ex-Manchester City star Richards told Sky Sports: “Antonio Conte is a serial winner.
“We talk about the Manchester United values, forget the values for just one minute. It is about winning games.
“You’ve got (Cristiano) Ronaldo, (Paul) Pogba, (Bruno) Fernandes, (Jadon) Sancho and all those players.
“Something has to give and Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) was not getting the best out of those players.
“Conte is proven. He is the Tottenham manager now but there was a window where they could have got him. I don’t understand it.”

    DE GEA DISMAY
David De Gea was among the players paying tribute to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following his dismissal as Manchester United manager.
United announced they parted ways with Solskjaer after Saturday’s 4-1 thrashing to Watford at Vicarage Road, which marked the final drop after seven losses in 13 games across all competitions.
De Gea was among the players that expressed their appreciation for the Norwegian head coach’s contribution in the last three years.
The star goalkeeper described the loss to the Hornets as a “nightmare” last night but now insists Solskjaer always “gave everything” for the Red Devils.
De Gea tweeted: “You always gave everything and everyone knows you are a legend at [Man Utd].”
    CON SUPPORT
MMA legend Conor McGregor has paid homage to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after he was sacked as Manchester United boss.
I want to give a major shout out, and a huge thank you to the living legend that is Ole Gunnar Solskjær! Ole you are forever, Sir! Icon! Inspiration! Hero! Legend!Thank you Ole ❤️ @ManUtd— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) November 21, 2021

    SWEET SUGAR
Lord Alan Sugar expressed his delight at Tottenham’s appointment of Antonio Conte while taking a swipe at Arsenal and Manchester United in the process.
Sugar reckons the Italian could’ve ended up at either United or Arsenal if Spurs didn’t bring him in last week following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal from Old Trafford and the Gunners 4-0 thumping at the hands of Liverpool yesterday.
Smug Spurs fan Sugar wrote on Twitter: “I am please we got hold on Conte when we did as he would have been grabbed by Man U or Arsenal …..next week.”
    RED FACES
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has blasted naive Manchester United officials forever bothering to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager.
The United legend was named caretaker back in 2018 before being given the reins full-time at Old Trafford.
Things turned sour this season and the under-fire boss was finally given his marching orders after Saturday’s abject 4-1 defeat by Watford.
And Sky Sports pundit Redknapp was far from impressed with United’s approach while their rivals appointed top-class managers around them.
He said: “This hasn’t crept up on Man United, I’ve seen this for a long while.
“When you look at what Liverpool have got – Klopp, Man City – Guardiola, Chelsea – Tuchel, and you’ve got a manager that’s managed at Molde and Cardiff – at one of the biggest clubs in the world, it isn’t right.
“You’re almost fighting with one hand behind your back in the big occasions and I’ve never really felt he is the right fit.
“I said at the time, one day it’s going to be like shooting Bambi and that’s what it feels like. This should have happened weeks ago.”
    SOL DESTROYING
Manchester United have spent a staggering £38million on sacking managers since Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford in 2013.
The Scot, 79, provided the Red Devils with the ultimate stability during his 27 years at the helm.
But the Theatre of Dreams has been anything but stable ever since.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became the latest man to be sacked this morning – receiving a £7.5m payout in the process.
The Norwegian was handed a new three-year deal in the summer.
But terms of the contract stipulated that he need only be paid one year’s salary should he be relieved of his duties.
    NO NEED
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turned down help to upgrade his backroom staff at Manchester United, reports suggest.
That is according to ESPN, who claim that Solskjaer refused to make changes to his coaching team despite key players complaining that the training was “too British” and unsuited to the requirements of the modern game.
Reports have now emerged of senior players losing faith in the former manager after last month’s 5-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford.
A section of the roster found the coaching to be too one-dimensional as it lacked imagination as well as creativity.
The Red Devils’ hierarchy took those concerns on board and “offered Solskjaer every level of support and told him he could have whatever he needed to put it right.”
However, the 48-year-old told executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward that he had full faith in his world-class coaching team.
    SOL BAD
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked by Manchester United after a horror run of five defeats in seven games.
He becomes the FOURTH manager to try – and fail – to replace Sir Alex Ferguson after his retirement in 2013.
David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho were all sacked in the past eight years, and now Solskjaer joins the gang.
The bottom line is that he won no trophies, unlike his more recent predecessors
Mourinho led United to a Europa League and EFL Cup double in 2017, while Van Gaal lifted the FA Cup in 2016 just days before he was sacked.
However Solskjaer’s win percentage was surprisingly good.
Solskjaer has the third-highest win percentage of ANY manager in United’s history.
His record of 91 wins from his 168 games in charge across all competitions is second best in the post-Fergie era – behind only Mourinho.
The Norwegian achieved a win rate of 54.2 per cent, behind Mourinho’s 58.3 per cent from 144 matches.
    THE RON FOR ME
Cristiano Ronaldo wants Luis Enrique to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, according to reports.
The Red Devils sacked Solskjaer this morning, following a dismal run of form that culminated in yesterday’s 4-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road.
United have been strongly linked with a move for Zinedine Zidane, with chiefs reportedly trying to convince the Frenchman to come to Old Trafford.
According to Sky Sports, however, their biggest name player would rather play under Spain boss Enrique.
They reckon that despite his old affiliation with Real Madrid legend Zizou, Ronaldo wants United to hire Enrique instead.
The Red Devils are expected to consider the former Barcelona boss as they hunt for a new manager.

    BLANC CANVAS
Manchester United could hire Laurent Blanc as interim manager following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking, reports suggest.
United parted company with club legend Solskjaer after Saturday’s 4-1 thrashing to Watford at Vicarage Road, which marked the final drop after five defeats in seven Premier League matches.
Michael Carrick has been put in charge for the time being while the Red Devils look for something more permanent.
According to The Athletic, however, the Manchester giants may be unable to land their top targets before the summer, such as Zinedine Zidane, Erik ten Hag and Brendan Rodgers.
Therefore, it is possible that they could turn to other options who are also going to be considered as temporary solutions.
Former United ace Blanc has been touted as a candidate, which means he would get the same opportunity Solskjaer got when he replaced Jose Mourinho in 2018 before earning a long-term contract.
The French head coach spent two years at Old Trafford where he retired in 2003 following 75 appearances across all competitions.
    BUDGET CUTS
Manchester United will be forced to pay Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a hefty £7.5m after sacking him this morning.
The Red Devils boss lost his job after suffering a humiliating 4-1 defeat at Watford.
Man United chiefs met at 7pm last night to discuss sacking the Norwegian, who they’d handed a new three-year deal to in August.
And SunSport understands he will have to be given a full year’s salary as a severance package by the club.
This works out at around £7.5m, which puts him around fifth in the highest paid Premier League managers.
That’s behind behind Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Brendan Rodgers and Marcelo Bielsa in the salary stakes.
    PIERS DIG
Piers Morgan has taken his customary dig at Gary Neville following Solskjaer’s Man Utd sacking.

    NEV SUPPORT
Gary Neville has sent out a message of support to his former team-mate Solskjaer following his sacking from the club.

    CARRICK TO TAKE OVER
Michael Carrick will take over as United boss temporarily, but the club are looking for an interim boss to lead the side until the end of the season.
Presumably, Zinedine Zidane will be sounded out in the summer.

    CLUB STATEMENT
“Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision,” a statement read.
“While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.
“Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as Manager and our very best wishes for the future.
“His place in the club’s history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a Manager who gave us many great moments. He will forever be welcome back at Old Trafford as part of the Manchester United family.
“Michael Carrick will now take charge of the team for forthcoming games, while the club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.”
    SACKED!
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been sacked as Man Utd boss after the club’s 4-1 loss to Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.

    SHORTLIST
Here are a list of candidates so far rumoured to be in the frame to take over on a permanent basis at Old Trafford.

    Zinedine Zidane
    Erik ten Hag
    Brendan Rodgers
    Ralph Rangnick
    Laurent Blanc
    Julen Lopetegui

Antonio Conte, of course, was United’s first choice, but ironically it was the Red Devils’ 3-0 win over Tottenham which pushed Spurs into appointing the Italian as their new boss.
    BRU-NO!
After the game, Solskjaer went over to the United fans to clap them, only to be negatively received by a large portion of the support.
Bruno Fernandes waved his finger at them and indicated the result came as a consequence of the team’s poor performance and not the manager.
“In the Premier League it is not enough playing for just one half,” he said.
“Watford has a good team. They are aggressive, they have quality up front, and if you give them chances you will concede goals.
“And that has been a problem with us for many games.
“I think the attitude in the second half was there. In the first half it was too sloppy from everyone.”

    NOT HAPPY
David de Gea had some choice words after the game, letting everyone know what he thought of the performance.
“There’s not much to say – it was embarrassing to see Man United play like we did today,” he explained.
“It’s not acceptable – the way we were playing and doing things. It’s easy to blame the manager or the staff but sometimes it’s the players.
“We need to show much more than we are doing. Embarrassing first half – we could’ve conceded four goals in 45 minutes.
“It was hard to watch the team playing today – it was nightmare after nightmare. It’s not acceptable.
“We are trying to give our best and fight for the team but for sure something is very wrong. You can see in the games – it’s very low level, very poor. Sorry to the fans, once again.”
    AWFUL RESULT
United were trounced 4-1 by newly-promoted Watford on Saturday night, prompting calls from fans for Solskjaer’s time at the club to come to an end.
Joshua King – a Red Devils academy product – smashed home the opener after 28 minutes before Ismaila Sarr doubled the lead just before the break.
It could have been a lot worse for United at half time as Sarr missed TWO penalties in the space of a minute after having one saved before retaking it for encroachment and David De Gea denied him a second time.
Half time sub Donny Van de Beek grabbed a goal back early in the second half, but skipper Harry Maguire’s red card in the 69th minute ended any hopes of an underserved comeback.
Joao Pedro and Emmanuel Dennis added a third and fourth in injury time to really stick the knife into Ole.
This was Watford’s first home win since the start of the season back in August, and are just four points behind United in seventh.
    MORNING, MAN UTD FANS
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed his final game in charge of Manchester United with the board finally deciding enough is enough.
United called an emergency board meeting following the 4-1 humiliation at Vicarage Road.
And Solskajer’s backroom staff started saying their goodbyes following the brutal defeat with club chiefs to sack him within 48 hours.Bruno Fernandes blamed ‘everyone’ at Manchester United after Watford’s 4-1 win rammed a huge nail in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coffin.
Midfielder Fernandes was led away by team-mates after a heated row with United fans at Vicarage Road.
Luke Shaw could be a doubt for Manchester United’s clash with Chelsea after appearing to suffer possible concussion against Watford.
The left-back, 26, started in Saturday’s 4-1 horror defeat at Vicarage Road.
But Shaw didn’t last the whole 90 minutes as he was flattened in a collision with an opponent.
    OUT WITH THE OLE
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked glum as he drove home after Manchester United’s humiliating 4-1 defeat to Watford.
SunSport understand the loss, which saw club captain Harry Maguire get sent off, is the last straw for the Norwegian.
The players are also expecting Solskjaer to get the sack.
Other reports claim players and staff were in tears after the thumping away defeat to the newly-promoted side.
    NEEDS A JI UP
Ex-Man Utd star Ji-sung Park has backed underfire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to keep his job till the end of the season.
The Norwegian boss is on the brink of the sack after the Red Devils were humiliated 4-1 at Watford.
But Park is backing Solskjaer until the end of the season.
“It’s been three years for Solskjaer as a manager and I believe that this will be the defining season for him, in terms of whether he continues at the club,” Park told Goal.
“I think that he deserves credit for what he’s done at United, and deserves to fight [for his job] until the end of the season, but he needs to show he can continue after that.
“He did well to bring the old United spirit and culture back to us.”
“Before him, we had Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, who had reputations as world-class coaches, but it didn’t work out, so I think that United learned from those experiences and that they were key in the decision to stick with Solskjaer (after the Liverpool and City defeats).
“But the most important point is whether he can compete with Pep (Guardiola), (Jurgen) Klopp, (Thomas) Tuchel, the best coaches in the world.
“Therefore, I believe we should wait until the end of this season and then see. But if he can’t show (he’s good enough), it will be difficult for him to continue.”
    JA RULES
Cristiano Ronaldo’s pre-match words of advice to Jadon Sancho backfired as Manchester United were thrashed 4-1 by Watford.
Sancho, 21, was handed a rare start against his former club despite failing to score or assist in his previous 13 appearances.
And before kick-off, Ronaldo could be seen talking to Sancho, offering advice and undoubtedly trying to motivate him.
But it didn’t go to plan as Watford went into the half-time break with a two-goal lead thanks to former United ace Josh King and Ismaila Sarr.
Half-time substitute Donny van de Beek pulled one back for the visitors, offering a glimmer of hope of a comeback.
But Harry Maguire made sure the points would stay at Vicarage Road as he was sent off for a rash challenge of Tom Cleverley.
The double yellow on Saturday’s game guarantees Maguire’s absence for United’s big game against Chelsea next weekend.
Joao Pedro and Emmanuel Bonaventure scored in added time to secure a historic victory against the Red Devils.

BOTH VERSTAPPEN AND HAMILTON HAVE STOPPED
And yet they remain the front two cars in this race. That’s a free pitstop for both. It is only lap 19 of 57.
