‘The deal was done’ – Jesse Lingard reveals he was ‘p***ed’ when Man Utd blocked his Newcastle transfer at last minute

JESSE LINGARD has admitted he was “p***ed” off when Manchester United blocked a January loan move to Newcastle last January. The 30-year-old decided to try and force his way into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans last term after a successful six-month loan spell at West Ham.

However, Lingard found game time hard to come by under the Red Devils icon, as well as interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
Come January 2022, Lingard had made only a handful of starts and began to grow frustrated with his contract due to expire in June.
And in a bid to get back on the football pitch, a loan move in January to then Premier League strugglers Newcastle was agreed.
But United decided to pull the plug on the move with their squad being too small – a decision that “p***ed” off Lingard.

Lingard told the Diary of a CEO podcast: “I wanted to go on loan again in January because I wasn’t playing again.
“Newcastle was on the cards in January. The deal was done – everything – but the United squad was not big enough.
“A couple of players went out on loan and when it came to me, [football director] John Murtough rang me and was like, ‘No, you’re not going on loan.’
“I was like, ‘He’s on loan. Let me go and enjoy my football. I’m not playing here so let me go on loan. I want to play football.’

“He was like, ‘What do you want? Days off?’ I said, ‘No. I want to go play football.’ They stopped the loan so I was p***ed.”
Lingard left boyhood club Man Utd in the summer without a proper sendoff, and a summer of transfer speculation followed.
There were talks of a move to the MLS, as well as a return to the London Stadium, where he played his best football to date.
However, Lingard decided to join Nottingham Forest on a one-year deal.
The England international is yet to score or assist in the Prem, though.
Once retired, Lingard says he’d like to move into acting – which could be a hint as to where he moves next. More

Mathias Jensen & Bruno Fernandes feature in the best Dream Team XI of Game Week 18

FRIDAY brings a change of Game Week but before we sink our teeth into the imminent fixtures let’s reflect upon the success stories from the week past.Paul O’Connor finished as Game Week 18’s best gaffer having amassed 115 points when all was said and done.
Let’s take a closer look at how his XI ‘OC Milan’ topped the pile…

Paul supports Manchester United but you can’t blame him for backing Newcastle’s defensive assets to the hilt.
The Magpies have conceded just 11 league goals this season, three fewer than the next best team in this regard.
Nick Pope (£5m) kept his 11th Premier League clean sheet of the season last Sunday, benefiting from Aleksandar Mitrovic’s (£5.1m) freak penalty miss to bank seven points.
Kieran Trippier (£6.3m) is the outright best defender in the game this term but he actually missed out of a 7+ rating against Marco Silva’s side, a rare thing indeed.
Dan Burn (£4.6m), Sven Botman (£4.6m) and Fabian Schar (£4.8m) all picked up bonus points though, with the latter going one better to claim the Star Man award for a 13-point haul.
Paul’s five Newcastle players combined for 41 points to underline their defensive might once again.

Mathias Jensen’s (£1.8m) inclusion has to be considered a masterstroke as the Danish midfielder only had 33 points to his name prior to Game Week 18.

Despite that relatively underwhelming tally, Paul correctly identified that Brentford v Bournemouth was a fixture to target given the two teams’ contrasting form in recent weeks.
Jensen (1% ownership) scored the second goal of the game in a 2-0 win for the Bees and edged out his team-mates to take home the Star Man gong and 13 points.
Riyad Mahrez (£5.8m) featured in Game Week 17’s Team of the Week and he retained his place with a 19-point haul.
Manchester City’s Algerian winger blanked in the Manchester derby but cashed in during his side’s spirited second half comeback against Spurs on Thursday night.
He scored two of the Citizens’ goals and assisted another as the defending champions rallied from 2-0 down at half time to win 4-2.
One man who certainly didn’t blank at Old Trafford at the weekend was Bruno Fernandes (£5.6m).
It was a bolster week for Fernandes
The Portuguese playmaker scored a controversial goal against City and followed that up with another at Crystal Palace where he also pouched the Star Man award.
No midfielder scored more points than Fernandes’ 21 in Game Week 18.
Up top, Erling Haaland (£8.8m) had to settle for just the one goal and eight points – that’s basically a drought by his standards.
Marcus Rashford (£5.4m) continued his fantastic form with a Star Man showing in the Manchester derby – he’s scored in every game since the restart.
    Read More on The Sun
And Paul decided to show off by proving that he only needs ten players to be the Game Week’s top gaffer as Darwin Nunez (£5.5m) didn’t feature for Liverpool after picking up an injury in training.
Just imagine how many points he could rack up with a full allotment… More

Gary Neville makes Arsenal vs Man Utd prediction and calls Casemiro ban a ‘massive blow’

GARY NEVILLE believes Arsenal are “massive favourites” to beat Manchester United following Casemiro’s suspension. Both teams are on a brilliant run of form with United only denied a 10th consecutive win by a last-minute Crystal Palace goal on Wednesday.

The pundit believes Casemiro will be a big loss for the visitorsCredit: Getty
That was a setback for the Red Devils, but possibly not as bad as the yellow card Casemiro received, which rules him out of Sunday’s clash at The Emirates.
Neville believes losing such a “pivotal” player hands the advantage to the league leaders, but believes United’s counter-attack gives them a chance of winning – if the defence plays its part early on.
He told Sky Sports: “Casemiro getting booked ahead of Sunday is a massive blow because he’s been pivotal.
“Manchester United have got to pick it up now, it’s a massive game on Sunday against Arsenal.
    READ MORE ON MAN UTD
“They beat them without Casemiro last time. They’re going to have to play extremely well, defend well especially in the first half hour when Arsenal are electric but they don’t have a great bench.
“If you get through that first period of the game what you’re going to face is what you’re going to face later on in the game.
“They had that problem against Newcastle who defended really well against them. But Arsenal are in great form, massive favourites for the game with Casemiro out.
“United have got to hang in there for the first part of the game and they are dangerous on the counter-attack.

“But without Casemiro I expect Arsenal to win on Sunday.”
A win for United would see them reduce the game to the Gunners to just five points, but Arsenal are out for revenge after losing 3-1 at Old Trafford earlier this season.
Neville’s former United team-mate Paul Parker agrees that losing Casemiro is significant and hands Arsenal the upper hand.
He told Apostagolos: “Arsenal are the favourites regardless of whether Man United were missing Casemiro or not. Everyone knows how important Casemiro is, so it is a massive blow for Man United to not have him for that game.”
“I think Erik ten Hag made a huge mistake by not subbing Casemiro off. Everyone knew that he was in danger of receiving that yellow card, so ten Hag really didn’t do himself any favour prior to the Arsenal game.”
“Casemiro missing against Arsenal will be the topic of every conversation because everyone knows that no matter what Arsenal now are even bigger favourites because Man United are missing their most important player.”
Former Arsenal star Paul Merson also has faith in Mikel Arteta and his side to pick up three points.
He said: “This is a much harder game for Arsenal than the Tottenham match. Casemiro is a big player, and United would’ve had just as much of a chance as Arsenal if he was available.
    Read More on The Sun
“He brings experience to the midfield and would’ve been on Martin Odegaard. They’ll miss his presence in this match.
“Luke Shaw marked Erling Haaland out of the game last week – leave him out of the lineup at your own peril. With Casemiro suspended for this match, I’m backing Arsenal to win this game.” More
