Watch forgotten ex-England and Chelsea star Ross Barkley score beauty to inspire 3-2 comeback win for Nice

ROSS Barkley rolled back the years for current club OGC Nice as he scored a stunner during a 3-2 comeback victory. The forgotten ex-England and Chelsea man joined the French club in September 2022 and is one of four former Premier League stars plying their trade on the French Riviera.

The club are owned by prospective Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe through his company INEOS.
Under Ratcliffe’s ownership, the club has a decisively ex-Premier League feel to it, with Barkley joined in Nice by former Arsenal stars Aaron Ramsey and Nicolas Pepe and former Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
Barkley, who played 33 times for England, scoring six goals, struggled to live up to his potential after joining Chelsea from Everton for £15m in January 2018.
Injuries saw him struggle to establish himself in the side as he gradually fell down the Chelsea pecking order and out of the England reckoning.

A successful loan spell at Aston Villa during the Covid-dominated 2020/21 season raised hopes of a career revival after he scored three goals and assisted one during his 24 appearances for the Villains.
But after making only eight appearances for Chelsea the following season, he joined Nice as a free agent when his contract was terminated by the Blues.
The midfielder has largely been used as a rotation player for Nice this season, but dazzled fans with his goal against Montpellier having started the game on Saturday.

Barkley’s 53rd minute strike was enough to inspire Nice to a comeback victory, with striker Gaetan Laborde scoring twice to complete the side’s victory.
Barkley’s four goals for Nice this season is his best tally since scoring five for Everton in the 2016/17 season, when he made 39 appearances for The Toffees. More

Inside Ten Hag’s incredible four-point plan that reignited Marcus Rashford’s Man Utd career after Cristiano Ronaldo exit

ERIK TEN HAG devised a four-point plan to reignite Marcus Rashford’s career this season.Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit in November left Manchester United severely lacking a reliable goalscorer.

But the Red Devils boss turned to Rashford and called on the forward to step up – and step up he did.
After scoring just five goals last season, he has been one of the standout players in England with 30 this time around.
That included a whopping 22 after the restart following the World Cup as he shouldered that responsibility superbly.
Rashford was not perfect – he was dropped at Wolves for oversleeping and missing a team meeting, only to respond by netting the winner.

But without his goals, United would surely not be preparing for a return to the Champions League in 2023-24.
So it was no wonder the top scorer, 25, swept up at the club’s end-of-season awards as he was crowned Players’ Player of the Year and Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year.
And Ten Hag revealed what he did to get the No10 firing again, with four key areas.
Speaking to The Times, the Dutchman said: “What I have done? He’s a good football player, incredibly good and his finishing attributes are high.

“So, first of all, I make a culture where he can perform. Then I get him motivated and then construct a way of play where he can do it.
“And fitness, as well, don’t forget that part. When those four aspects are there Marcus Rashford will score.
“He can play as a centre forward, can play from the left, can play from the right.
“When you see his stats, he is scoring everywhere but he feels more comfortable as a centre forward or from the left.”
Rashford seems to enjoy playing on the left the most, cutting in and causing chaos for full-backs.
And he could be lining up with his England captain Harry Kane at Old Trafford next term if United can complete a stunning transfer for the Tottenham star.
Regardless, though, Ten Hag has already handed Rashford a whopping goal target of 40 for the new campaign.
But with his current contract expiring in 2024, fans are desperate to see the local hero sign on the dotted line for an extension.

Frustrated Liverpool outcast Fabio Carvalho drops huge hint he wants to quit club in cryptic post to Man Utd star

FABIO CARVALHO has hinted he will soon be leaving Liverpool after a cryptic Instagram post. The 20-year-old arrived on a free transfer from Fulham last summer on the back of an impressive Championship season but has struggled for minutes this term.

Indeed, after playing just 340 Premier League minutes under Jurgen Klopp, Carvalho seems to feel he needs more game time.
And after posting a series of photos following a photoshoot on the beach, the England and Portugal Youth International seemed to hint at his future lying away from Anfield.
In response to his collection of photos, former Fulham team-mate Ryan de Havilland, 21, wrote: “Next top model 😍,” to which Carvalho responded: “All I do now,” as he vented his frustration.
However, it was his response to Manchester United star Anthony Elanga which set alarm bells ringing.

The United winger, 21, commented: “Fresh home…” Carvalho then simply replied: “Soon.”
It comes amid speculation regarding his future after reports suggested there were a number of suitors for him both at home and abroad.
Indeed, the Liverpool Echo have reported the Reds have already turned down one offer from an unnamed club.
But the nature of any transfer for the winger is more likely to be a loan, with Klopp admitting there was a chance he could go on to find a new club in the summer.

The German then insisted no player had done more to impress him this season.
He told reporters on Friday: “I think there is a maybe a possibility Fabio goes on loan but the thing is this was not Fabio’s best year in his career, clear, but it might have been his most important.
“No player has impressed me more than Fabio, it is the truth.
“This talented boy came here with big dreams and big expectations and it didn’t work out – it was okay in the beginning but it didn’t work out in the end.
“But his work ethic will give him a fantastic career because he trained with getting nothing.”
Despite his struggles for game time, Carvalho still managed to yield two league goals from his debut season at Anfield, with both coming in August.
Meanwhile, Elanga is in a similar predicament at United.
The Swede has played just 418 minutes of Prem football, chipping in with a single assist, though he remains in high demand.
As many as ten clubs went in with offers for him in the January transfer window, and a loan move looks likely for the summer. More

Hyde, from Essex, is the latest semi-professional footballer to swap non-league action for Love Island.
He follows in the footsteps of 2020 Love Island winner Finn Tapp, who played for Oxford City, and Hashtag United ace Toby Aromolaran, who was runner-up during season seven.
Hyde is currently playing for seventh-tier side Lewes, who just missed out on the play-offs via goal difference, after previously lining-up for National League South outfit Welling United earlier in the campaign.
Now a tackle that the ex-Dagenham & Redbridge ace was on the receiving end of while in action for the Isthmian Premier League side has now resurfaced.

The incident occurred during Lewes’ clash with Cray Wanderers at the Dripping Pan stadium.
And it was so bad that the aggressor, Mitchell Chapman, received a whopping four-game suspension.
However, after news of the former Dagenham & Redbridge ace’s upcoming stint on Love Island emerged, Chapman showed little remorse as he took to Twitter to boast about his wild two-footed lunge that left Hyde lying in a heap.
Chapman responded to a tweet announcing Hyde joining the smash show with: “Four game ban was so worth it now.”

The former Tottenham manager was locked in talks with owner Todd Boehly for weeks as the West London club searched for Graham Potter’s replacement.
Now Pochettino, who had been out of work since leaving Paris Saint-Germain last summer, has returned to the capital to take charge at Stamford Bridge.
However, despite being a huge fan favourite at rivals Spurs with many supporters wanting him to come back to them, he now appears to have become public enemy No1 after joining their neighbours.
And one individual vented his anger as he shared a clip on Twitter of himself burning a copy of Guillem Balague’s Brave New World book, released in 2017, that looked into Pochettino’s remarkable time at Spurs.

The fan placed the book on a barbecue and filmed it burning along with a message saying: “How’s this for a barbecue you f***ing turncoat?”
But Chelsea supporters quickly mocked him, with one saying: “That BBQ has all the heat of a Tottenham trophy-hunt. It’ll clearly fizzle out before it’s completed the job.”
Another said: “The book lasted longer than any Spurs title challlenge on that BBQ.”
Another said: “Wow. That showed him.”

Meanwhile, even some Spurs fans defended Poch, with one writing: “B******s, this isn’t on Poch,  Levy was too arrogant to swallow his pride, admit that he got it wrong and do the right thing. Poch could not have done anymore to return. This is entirely on Levy.”
Pochettino is one of the most successful coaches in recent times at Spurs, despite failing to win a trophy with the club.
He averaged 1.89 points per game – the most for any Tottenham boss in Premier League history with a minimum of 38 Premier League games in charge.
The ex-Southampton chief capped off his five-year stint at White Hart Lane by leading Spurs to the 2019 Champions League final, where they lost to Liverpool.
But he was sacked just months later following a poor start to the next campaign before eventually taking over at PSG in January 2021, winning the Coupe de France and Ligue 1 prior to his departure. More

Partey and his team-mates led the Premier League for a record length this term but were still pipped to the title by Manchester City.
That was still enough to secure Mikel Arteta’s team a return to the Champions League but the Spanish coach is reportedly still set to overhaul his squad over the summer.
Midfield is believed to be one of the key areas he wants to strengthen with West Ham’s Declan Rice believed to be a top target.
Despite failing to land him in January, Brighton star Moises Caicedo is another that Arsenal could also move for.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Emirates chiefs will give Arteta a transfer budget of around £180m to bring in new recruits plus any money generated from player sales.
Fellow midfielder Granit Xhaka seems certain to be leaving for Bayern Leverkusen.
Meanwhile Gunners left-back Kieran Tierney looks set to depart to the Emirates over the coming weeks.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is allegedly hoping for a reunion with the Scottish ace while Newcastle are also keen on the ex-Celtic man.

And the Mail claims that back-up defender Rob Holding could also depart.
However, this fresh update also added a fourth name of potential departures – and they say that Partey may be sold to boost transfer funds.
But supporters were fuming to discover that and instantly took to Twitter to demand that the club hang on to the ex-Atletico Madrid man, who arrived in North London back in 2020 for £45m.
One fan reacted to the news by fuming: “Don’t even try selling Partey.”
A fellow Gooner demanded: “Keep a hold of Partey, he was immense for most of the season!”
That argument continued as supporters continued to flood in with another asking: “Selling Partey will be a big mistake for a club hoping to win trophies next season.”
Another wrote: “He [Partey] has been the engine of our team backed by [Granit] Xhaka, he understands our style of play, why sale him to buy players who may not fit in?”
A fellow fan told club chiefs: “There’s no way we can let Partey leave!!! I don’t care if we get both Rice and Caicedo.”

A host more echoed those thoughts as another wrote: “Can’t sell Partey no way. He’s world class for 30 games a season just need to manage his minutes.”
And another went as far to say: “The moment Thomas Partey departs. . .I denounce this team, tell me the game we lost (aside City at Emirates) with Partey on.” More

Spurs and Arsenal had pretty contrasting league campaigns.
Under Mikel Arteta the Gunners led the title race for a staggering 248 days, making them the team with the unwanted record for the most days at the top of the table without winning it.
However, Champions League football was the objective going into the season and finishing second to potential treble-winners Manchester City can still be seen as a year of progress.
On the other hand, despite initial hopes of consolidating last year’s top four finish, Tottenham’s season has ended on an extremelely sour note.
Indeed, an eighth-place league finish has left them without European football for the first time since 2009/10. More
