Man City boss Pep Guardiola REFUSES to confirm that out-of-favour midfielder is in his plans for next season

PEP GUARDIOLA can give no assurances to Kalvin Phillips over his future at Manchester City. The England ace has yet to start a Premier League game for the leaders, who face his former club Leeds this afternoon.

Since his £42million summer move, the 27-year-old midfielder has struggled with fitness and form, meaning he has been unable to dislodge the outstanding Rodri.
Guardiola says he will listen to any player who is concerned about their lack of minutes — but not while his team are chasing the Treble.
The City chief said: “Right now we are not thinking for one second about next season.
“Kalvin has been, for many things, important in the role but he’s not been on the pitch much.

“In some things he needs to adapt a little bit more. But what happens next season, I am not concerned about for one second now.
“We will see at the end of the season. But right now I am not going to discuss anything.”
The fact Arsenal set such an incredible pace in the opening months of the season has meant City spent much of it trying to keep up with them.
And that meant keeping faith with Rodri rather than risking Phillips.

Guardiola added: “That role is so, so important.

Jack Grealish reveals Man City’s funniest secrets including worst dressed, longest in shower and best dancer

JACK GREALISH has turned on the tap of Etihad dressing-room secrets. The Manchester City midfielder revealed inside oddities like who takes the longest in the shower.
Jack Grealish won’t mind getting up close and personal with Erling Haaland, given how long the Manchester City goal machine spends in the showerCredit: Getty
Grealish also gave himself a drenching, by self-naming and shaming for one of the most unwanted individual descriptions.
Premier League leaders City will go four points clear of Arsenal if they beat lowly Leeds at the Etihad on Saturday.
But just when morale at the club is at its highest, Grealish disclosed some fun titbits to The Mail.
Erling Haaland is of course clocking up goal records on the pitch, with 51 so far this season.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
But now he’s been outed as the City player who clocks up the most minutes in the showers.
And Grealish, so twinkle-toed down the wings at the moment, also confessed his own big weakness.
He rates England pal John Stones as the best dancer but himself the worst.
But the former Aston Villa hero did attempt a high-brow excuse.

BETTING SPECIAL – BEST SPORTS BETTING APPS IN THE UK
Grealish reckons much of his time with music is spent as a “multi-genre DJ”.
Perhaps that’s the disc jockey version of Stones as a footballer – someone who can fill different roles depending on the occasion.
Grealish regards Kyle Walker as the “best dressed” player.
He didn’t say, however, if that was partly because the Three Lions’ right-back has more opportunity to contemplate fashion this term as he’s mainly been on the Etihad bench.
The opposite is true of Rodri, who has been so busy out in the middle as the anchorman but is labelled as the worst-dressed star.
Rodri also got a pasting for his music tastes.
Meanwhile, Grealish had the perfect explanation when asked who was the most laid-back in practice.
Singling out City’s iconic playmaker, he said: “Kev (De Bruyne). But he’s just like, you know, because of how good he is on a match day. He’s just chilled in training.” More

Three suggestions ahead of May’s Dream Team transfer refresh – finish the season on a high!

THE last batch of transfers for the 2022/23 season will be available to Dream Team managers from Friday morning. Please be aware this replenishment of five transfers will have to last you until June in the event of Manchester City and/or West Ham reaching the final of their respective European competitions.
Every gaffer will want to finish the campaign on a high, especially those chasing mini-league glory, so in the spirit of generosity we’ve created three transfer suggestions for your perusal.
As always, while it’s unlikely these recommendations will apply specifically to your team, you should be able to extract the logic and apply it to your strategic needs.
OUT: Bukayo Saka (£5.4m), IN: Jack Grealish (£4.8m)
The goal involvements are now flowing for Grealish in a City shirt
This is nothing personal against Arsenal’s No7, who has been brilliant this season, it’s just business.
Saka is the third-best midfielder overall with 184 points and his ownership of 42.4% makes him the second-most popular asset in his position.
However, his impressive record doesn’t change the fact that the Gunners have just four fixtures remaining this season.
Whereas treble-chasers Man City could be in action eight more times if they reach the Champions League final.
Not only is Grealish is busier than his England team-mate, he’s in better form too.
    Most read in Football
The £100million man has banked 53 points since Game Week 27 compared to Saka’s tally of 12 in the same time frame.
Arsenal’s homegrown hero has served his backers well this term but there’s no room for sentimentality when mini-leagues are on the line.
OUT: Alisson (£3.9m), IN: Ederson (£4.9m)
    Winding down
Much of what’s written above about Man City’s busy schedule above also applies here but this suggestion also highlights the fact that Liverpool are among the crop of teams with just four fixtures left to fulfil.
This is notable because while Jurgen Klopp’s side have performed below expectations this season, several of their players remain the among the most popular in the game.
The Reds’ Brazilian custodian has outperformed every goalkeeper bar Jason Steele (£2.7m) – who is a viable option while we’re on the subject – this Game Week but with so few point-scoring opportunities at his disposal this month it’s a good time to pivot to his fully-booked compatriot.
At the time of writing, swapping Alisson for Ederson requires an additional £1million in budget but that gap should close when the latest price changes take effect as the latter registered minus one point in Game Week 32.
Whether the fixture-first approach extends to the likes of Mohamed Salah (£8.5m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.4m) is another matter – the prolific Egyptian has amassed 72 points across the last eight Game Weeks while the English right-back has claimed 53 in the same period thanks to minutes in midfield.
    Decisions, decisions…
OUT: Ollie Watkins (£6.4m), IN: Solly March (£4.7m)
One of Dream Team’s surprise gems of 2022/23Credit: GETTY
Man City are undoubtedly the best team to back as the season reaches its climax but that doesn’t mean there aren’t viable options elsewhere.
Cup exploits and subsequent calendar reshuffles mean Brighton have seven Premier League fixtures still to play, although one those comes prior to May’s transfer refresh this evening against Manchester United.
The Seagulls face some testing match-ups with Arsenal, Newcastle, Man City and Aston Villa to play before the season’s end (offset by favourable match-ups against Everton and Southampton) but they can give any team a game on their day, as proven several times over in recent months.
Kaoru Mitoma (£4.6m) is the most-selected of Brighton’s midfielders but the Japanese dribbler has been overtaken by March having registered three blanks in a row.
The 28-year-old Englishman has 147 points to Mitoma’s 142 with the pair seventh and eighth respectively in the midfield rankings.
March’s tally of seven goals, nine assists and six Star Man awards is mightily impressive when you consider the fact he started the campaign at just £1m!
    Read More on The Sun
We’re proposing a swap for Watkins, which would obviously require a change in formation, because while the Villains’ top scorer has been superb generally since the World Cup, he’s cooled off with three consecutive blanks since his magnificent display against Newcastle three weeks back.
And again, Villa are among the clubs with just four fixtures remaining so March is likely to have two additional games over Watkins in the coming weeks. More

Premier League sides were keen on his signature, but Madrid are close to sealing a deal on a contract worth £12million-a-year, according to Marca.
Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have all been tipped with an interest in the midfielder.
Liverpool dropped out of the race last month after discovering that a transfer would be too expensive.
Whereas now they have been joined by Man City on the wayside.

The report suggests that Bellingham has opted to move to the Santiago Bernabeu despite being offered more money by the Premier League side.
The Spanish outlet claims that Madrid have been planning the transfer for over a year and now have an “agreement in principle”.

This deal will see the Englishman become a Madrid player on June 30 and will sign a contract until 2029.
However, the clubs are believed still yet to have agreed a fee.

German outlet BILD is suggesting that Dortmund are asking for £124million, while Madrid are prepared to offer between £90m and £105m.
But Marca, suggests that the “friendly” Dortmund will “not push the operation” back and will take a lower fee.
Should the transfer go through it would be a major coup for Madrid.
Bellingham will be hoped to ease the loss of veterans Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, who are both approaching the end of their careers.
He is seen as the long-term successor for the latter.
And it’s reckoned Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni have both spoken to Bellingham about joining them in Spain.

They attempted to sign him last summer and returned their interest in January, but were unable to prise him away from the Etihad.
Now, as they prepare for a third attempt at the end of the season, 90min have revealed he will set them back £75m.
PSG are also monitoring Silva’s situation and could hijack Barcelona’s move if the LaLiga leaders are unable to finance a deal.
The attacker, who arrived in England from Monaco for £43m, is under contract with Man City until 2025, so the Premier League champions are in no rush to sell him.

But they have shown in the past with the likes of Leroy Sane, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling that they are willing to strike deals at the right price.
Silva was understood to be keen on a move to Spain last year.
Yet despite having his head turned, the ex-Monaco man has not let that stop him from enjoying another stellar season with Man City.
He has contributed five goals and seven assists for Pep Guardiola’s men, appearing in 47 of their 51 games in all competitions.

Fans convinced Erling Haaland FARTED next to Leon Goretzka after hilarious interaction between pair

FANS have been left convinced that Erling Haaland farted next to Leon Goretska after an exchange between the pair went viral. They were facing off in the second-leg of their Champions League clash last month, with Manchester City progressing 4-1 on aggregate over Bayern Munich.

But a short video of Goretska marking the Man City man before a corner is doing the rounds on social media.
Haaland, who scored his 50th goal of the season against Fulham on Sunday, is known to enjoy the dark arts of football.
And he appears to have opted for his most bizarre tactic yet.
Goretska can be seen puffing out his cheeks and holding his nose as he waits for the corner to be swung in.

The midfielder pulls a disgusted face while Haaland gives his own stomach a soothing rub and grins slightly.
Some fans believe this moment is evidence that he let one rip to put his opponent off his game and could not help but make jokes.

Another said: “This explains the goals.”

Man City star Kyle Walker wanted in shock Aston Villa transfer but England star hopes to stay at Prem title hopefuls

And Etihad chief Pep Guardiola has openly claimed that Walker cannot play in his new system.
But it’s understood the 76-cap star would still prefer to see out the final year of his  £150,000-a-week deal.
Walker’s admirers might also be put off by a possible fee of up to £25million for the ex-Tottenham ace.
Nonetheless, the Daily Star say Villa have joined a string of clubs showing interest in him.

Walker has lost his regular City place this season, although Guardiola has stressed it’s down to tactics not form.
The Etihad chief now plays with two full-backs who can move inwards to virtually become midfielders when the title favourites press forward.
Guardiola said: “He cannot do it. To play inside you have to make some educated movements.
“He has other characteristics. He will always have pace. He will be the fastest in this room at 60 years old.

“The reason why is tactical. It’s not because we lost faith in Kyle.”
Guardiola toned down that verdict by adding: “He can play coming inside and he has done it many times, but like in the position he will maybe need time to do it and we don’t have time.”
And he even softened his clear opinion further by not ruling out a future role for Walker.
He said: “What they have to do is two things. Don’t complain or there will be a problem. And try to do it better and better so when I need them, they will be ready.
“Look at Nathan Ake this season. Last season he didn’t play one minute and now he is undroppable.” More
