Why Man Utd could be stuck with Solskjaer until the end of the season amid manager links to Zidane and Rodgers

MANCHESTER UNITED could be stuck with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer until the end of the season – despite links with Brendan Rodgers and Zinedine Zidane. The two managers are the favourites to replace the Norwegian in the Old Trafford dugout.

Crushing defeats to Liverpool and City at home have left him clinging on to his post.
But Solskjaer could be on course for a reprieve that would see him kept on until next summer.
That is because, according to the Mirror, a new manager would want a full season to begin with, rather than coming in midway through the campaign.
Although the January transfer window is just seven weeks away, the possible new manager would not be given time to properly work on the training ground with new tactics.
And he would largely be stuck with the same, under-performing squad.
Rodgers – the No1 target for United – still has high hopes of winning silverware with Leicester this season following his FA Cup and Community Shield successes in 2021.

The Foxes are into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals and know qualification for the Europa League knockouts is in their hands.
Zidane, meanwhile, is a free agent after leaving Real Madrid in May.
But it is understood he too would prefer a pre-season to get to know his players.
The report also links Mauricio Pochettino with the United job.
He is in a similar position to Rodgers with Paris Saint-Germain, desperate to get the best out of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi to secure the Champions League for the French side.
ASolskjaer is not set to be sacked imminently – although two of his former team-mates are calling for him to go.
Rio Ferdinand said: “Now might be the time for that baton to be handed over to somebody else who can take us on.
“Ole would leave now with his head held high. From when he came in to where he got us, at the beginning of this season, has been positive.
“He has come in and done what he was brought in to do. He has given the fans hope again.
“But is he going to take us to titles and win the Champions League? I have to be honest with myself and I don’t think so, no.”

In his rant after United’s loss to City, Roy Keane added: “Manchester United are in a bad place but there is a way out of it. Is Ole the man to do it? Huge question marks.
“Every time there is a bad result, Ole is the man to blame.
“Ole can’t seem to win but he needs to look himself in the mirror and go ‘I need to do better here’. Ole, you might be better off out of it.”

“He knows exactly what he wants to do.
“Football is his life, so he’s been watching everything and he likes to talk about football.

Poch spent five-and-a-half years with Spurs, leading them to second in the league in 2016-17 and the Champions League final last year but was axed six months later.

He has been linked with both Manchester clubs as Solskjaer’s poor run led to speculation he would be replaced – although United have publicly backed the Norwegian – and Pep Guardiola’s contract expires at the Etihad next summer.

Juventus to pay Sarri up to £27m after sacking ex-Chelsea boss as Pochettino front-runner to replace him

JUVENTUS could pay Maurizio Sarri up to £27million in compensation after sacking the Italian.
And now Mauricio Pochettino is the early favourite to replace Sarri in the dugout at the Allianz Stadium.

The Old Lady decided to give Sarri the boot on Saturday, not even 24 hours after his side crashed out of the Champions League.
But because Sarri penned a three-year deal when he took over last summer, worth a basic figure of around £5m per season, Juve are obliged to pay out the remainder of his contract.
But reports suggest Juventus president Andrea Agnelli must shell out between £18m and £27m to cover the compensation package depending on whether he gets another job within the next two years.
The former Chelsea boss lost the Supercoppa Italiana in December to Lazio and then the Coppa Italia final on penalties to his old side Napoli in June.

And despite winning the Serie A title, pipping Inter Milan by just one point after losing seven league matches, success in Europe was a necessity.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in the second leg of the Champions League last-16 tie with Lyon but it was not enough as the Ligue 1 side progressed on away goals.
Juve said: “Juventus Football Club announces that Maurizio Sarri has been relieved of his post as coach of the First Team.
“The club would like to thank the coach for having written a new page in Juventus’ history with the victory of the ninth-consecutive championship, the culmination of a personal journey that led him to climb all the divisions of Italian football.”

The Old Lady want Pochettino to take over and have reportedly already made contact with him.
The former Tottenham boss is currently without a club following his sacking at White Hart Lane last November.

Agnelli’s No1 choice to replace Sarri would be club legend Zinedine Zidane, who also crashed out of the Champions League on Friday night.
Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi’s name has also been mentioned but with neither man expected to quit their current clubs this summer, the available Poch is the more likely option.
That is despite the fact he would demand around double the wages Sarri was on.
