FT: WEST HAM 1-2 MAN UTD
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rushes on to the pitch at full time to congratulate David de Gea, who is mobbed by his teammates. The goalkeeper’s stoppage time penalty saves ensures Jesse Lingard’s goal on his return to West Ham earns Manchester United another away victory in a match they trailed. Said Benrahma had given the hosts a first half lead, only to see it cancelled out by Cristiano Ronaldo.
PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!IT’S ALL OVER AT THE LONDON STADIUM!
WEST HAM 1-2 MAN UTD
90+5. Unbelievable scenes! David De Gea dives to his left and claws away Noble’s spotkick!
It’s a poor penalty from Noble, who puts it the perfect height for the goalkeeper and not quite in the corner. The debate will start immediately as to whether the midfielder should have taken the kick with his only touch of the game.
And the final whistle goes!
MARK NOBLE STEPS UP!!DAVID DE GEA SAVES!!
WEST HAM 1-2 MAN UTD
90+4. West Ham are bringing on Mark Noble, and their 34-year-old captain is going to take the spotkick with his first touch.
Off goes Jarrod Bowen.
THE DECISION IS OVERTURNED!PENALTY TO WEST HAM!
WEST HAM 1-2 MAN UTD
90+3. Soucek crosses into the box, it hits Shaw’s arm and goes behind.
Martin Atkinson points for the corner, but the West Ham players are furious. It’s now they who believe they should have a penalty.
Replays show that Shaw’s arm was outstretched and far from a natural position. The VAR officials are suggesting that the referee goes to take a second look at the incident on the pitchside monitors.
WEST HAM 1-2 MAN UTD
90+1. Ronaldo goes down again in the box, this time tripped by Kurt Zouma.
Martin Atkinson once more says no penalty, but this one looks much more debatable. In fact, it looks a clear foul.
The VAR review is completed very quickly too. A very strange incident.
WEST HAM 1-2 MAN UTD
89. It just had to be Jesse Lingard!
A hero on loan at West Ham last season, the England man has broken the hearts of those home fans inside the London Stadium with a superb strike.
Taking a pass from fellow substitute Nemanja Matic in his path, Lingard comes off the left side, past Kurt Zouma, and unleashes a sublime right-footer into the top corner of Lukascz Fabianski’s goal.
Lingard wants to show respect to the West Hams with muted celebrations but his teammates are absolutely ecstatic, and the smile on the goalscorer’s face is clear for all to see.
GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!JESSE LINGARD WINS IT FOR MANCHESTER UNITED!!
WEST HAM 1-1 MAN UTD
86. Lingard is a willing runner down the right, controlling an exchange of passes well but failing to get enough power on his cross to really trouble the West Ham defence.
It’s clear that he’s eager to make amends for his part in Tuesday’s downfall.
Either that or he’s really trying to impress David Moyes.
WEST HAM 1-1 MAN UTD
84. It’s not just the West Ham manager giving both barrels to Yarmolenko, the home supporters are not impressed with the Ukrainian’s contribution either.
WEST HAM 1-1 MAN UTD
82. The corner comes to nothing, and West Ham prepare for United’s latest onslaught.
However, the most animated man in the home ranks may well be David Moyes, who is out in his technical area and having stern words with Andriy Yarmolenko.
The substitute hasn’t had much of an impact as a substitute so far.
WEST HAM 1-1 MAN UTD
80. Inside the final ten minutes, and it is now apparent that one goal will win it.
United will be wary after their late slip up in Switzerland, but don’t appear to have learnt their lesson.
For Jesse Lingard there, read Varane here: the centre-back overhits a backpass intended for David de Gea, and is lucky that the result is no more than a West Ham corner.
WEST HAM 1-1 MAN UTD
77. Now it’s the United players screaming for a penalty.
Ronaldo turns past Coufal in the box and goes theatrically to ground, having clipped the knee of the defending Czech.
Martin Atkinson is on the scene and immediately signals no spotkick.
WEST HAM 1-1 MAN UTD
75. This has been the hosts’ best spell of the second half which usually means one thing when Manchester United play away from home: an imminent winner from the visitors.
WEST HAM 1-1 MAN UTD
73. United have made a double change.
Jadon Sancho and Jesse Lingard have been thrown on in place of Mason Greenwood and Paul Pogba. Can either United’s new signing or the former West Ham loanee find a winner?
WEST HAM 1-1 MAN UTD
72. A tremendous block from Varane denies Bowen and Yarmolenko from working an opening inside the visitors’ penalty area.
Superb defending from the former Real Madrid man.
WEST HAM 1-1 MAN UTD
69. Soucek goes down in the box! Martin Atkinson blows his whistle! And the West Ham fans begin to celebrate!
However, those cheers quickly evaporate as it becomes apparent that the free-kick has been awarded in Manchester United’s favour.
There’s some uncertainty as to whether Soucek has been penalised for a foul or offside, but if it’s the former, then it looks a very harsh decision.
United may have got away with one there.
WEST HAM 1-1 MAN UTD
68. A first change of the match as Andriy Yarmolenko takes over from Nikola Vlasic.
WEST HAM 1-1 MAN UTD
67. Full marks for the French team!
There’s some impressive amateur dramatics all round, first as Zouma takes a giant leap and tumble over Pogba’s outstretched leg, and then from the Manchester United man in defiance at the free-kick being awarded against him.
WEST HAM 1-1 MAN UTD
65. McTominay is given the all clear to continue and the action restarts.
Has that break in play taken the initiative out of United’s game? It looks as though David Moyes is preparing a change in order to help do just that.
