That was when his one-year deal at Nottingham Forest came to an end.
Lingard originally trained with West Ham, who he previously enjoyed a loan spell with, after his City Ground departure but then decided to join up with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq – who are managed by Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard.
But he was unable to pen a contract with them as they have a limit on foreign players in the Saudi League.
Lingard had been linked with a move to Everton and allegedly offered himself to Barcelona but neither move failed to materialise.

He is believed to have agreed a two-year contract that will make him the highest-paid player in the K-League if his alleged salary is true – although it is still some way off the £100,000-a-week he pocketed at United.
Chosun Ilbo, via Korea JoongAng Daily, claims that Lingard will earn £17,500 per week, which equates to an annual salary of £910,000.

It was claimed that 26 teams were interested in Lingard, including Italian giants Lazio, but his arrival in South Korea suggests that is where he is heading.
FC Seoul are six-time K League champions and have twice reached the Asian Champions League final.
And Lingard could link-up in midfield with another ex-Premier League star in former Swansea and Newcastle ace Ki Sung-yeung. More

How the Glazers broke Sir Alex Ferguson’s cardinal rule with Old Trafford revamp that gave accidental nod to Liverpool

THE GLAZERS committed a cardinal sin when it came to sprucing up Old Trafford in 2022, it has been revealed. And it all comes back to the shade of red that was used for a paint job on Old Trafford.
Employees and fans alike were furious that Old Trafford was painted in ‘Liverpool red’Credit: PP.
Fergie insisted that United always play in a darker kit than LiverpoolCredit: PP.
Sir Alex Ferguson was insistent that Manchester United has its own shade of red associated with it – and that it should never be too similar to Liverpool’s.
The legendary manager insisted that United played in a dark shade of red during his reign.
And this even led to former kit supplier Nike designing a colour that would meet the manager’s specifications – named “Diablo red”.
Fergie believed that if United used a shade that was too bright, it would look as though the club were playing in a Liverpool shirt.
    READ MORE ON MAN UTD
And the hatred of this colour extended to everything to do with the club, including how Old Trafford was decorated.
But the Glazers violated this back in 2022 when they re-painted parts of Old Trafford, and employees noticed that it was in the colour that Fergie despised.
An insider told ESPN: “They tried to smarten up Old Trafford with a paint job a couple of years ago.
“But they messed it up. They used the wrong shade of red. When Sir Alex was in charge, he would always insist that United played in a darker shade of red than Liverpool.

“Nike, kit partners at the time, even designed a specific shade for the team’s kit called ‘Diablo Red.’ The paint they used for Old Trafford is Liverpool red — it’s too bright for United.”

Fans praise ‘gentleman’ Kobbie Mainoo, 18, for heartwarming gesture to grief-stricken Man Utd fan’s emotional story
Fans have complained multiple times about the leaky roof at Old Trafford, which has become a symbol of the decline of the club.

Thomas Frank offers Christian Eriksen a Premier League transfer lifeline with Man Utd star ‘always welcome’ at Brentford

With just nine Premier League starts to his name this season, he may decide to consider his options this summer.
Galatasaray are keen but now his countryman Frank has said he would be willing to take him back to West London.
He played 11 matches for the Bees as he returned to football in 2022 – a few months after his heart scare at the Euros.
The Brentford chief told Tipsbladet:  “He will always be welcome back, Christian – always.

“I think he knows that. And we know that he had a good time here.
“I understood well why he went to United back then, and I’ve said that publicly.
“I also think he’s done well. Of course, he had an injury before Christmas for a while. But if Christian wants, he’s very welcome.”
Eriksen was a mainstay of the United side which won the Carabao Cup and secured Champions League football last season.

However the emergence of youngster Kobbie Mainoo in recent weeks has pushed him further down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.
Eriksen remains a useful squad player but with the club now out of Europe, he may find chances are hard to come by.
Ivan Toney casts doubt upon his Brentford future with Prem giants linked and Barcelona want to bring Kalvin Phillips to La Liga
He will have just 12 months remaining on his contract in the summer so both the player and the club will have a decision to make.
Meanwhile Frank told the publication he expects bids to come in for star striker Ivan Toney in the summer – but says the phone never rang in January.
He said: “This winter, we actually had no bids for him, but it would surprise me if there aren’t a lot of clubs interested in him.
“He’s a really good striker who is in his prime footballing age. Personally, as a coach, I would prefer to keep Toney, but one day it could be fun to see him at a top team.” More

    Alejandro Garnacho

Argentina international Garnacho is undoubtedly one of Manchester United’s most exciting academy stars of the last decade.
The 19-year-old has found the back of the net 12 times in 67 appearances for the Red Devils, with five of those goals coming this season.
A new contract will likely be in the offing, meaning an increase to his current £50,000-a-week wage packet.

    Pape Sarr

Senegal international Sarr joined Tottenham from Metz in the summer of 2021 but was immediately loaned back to the French outfit.

    Destiny Udogie

Italy defender Udogie signed for Spurs in the summer of 2022 but was immediately loaned back to Serie outfit Udinese.

    Cole Palmer

The former Manchester City academy star has been a shining light in what has otherwise been a dismal season for Chelsea.
Palmer, 21, has bagged 12 goals and seven assists in 26 appearances for the Blues in his debut season at Stamford Bridge.
And if owner Todd Boehly has any sense, he’ll soon give him a significant bump to his £75,000-a-week wages.

    Radu Dragusin

Tottenham fended off interest from German champions Bayern Munich in order to get their hands on highly-rated Romanian Dragusin.

The United forward has been on PSG’s radar for some time.
He even negotiated with the club prior to signing a new contract at Old Trafford last year – although discussions were allegedly used as leverage.
However, Rashford’s switch to PSG could be back on, amid his poor form this season, having scored a career-best 30 goals last term.
He has also had off the pitch problems after The Sun exclusively revealed the extent of his 12-hour bender in Belfast.
    READ MORE ON MAN UTD
The 26-year-old phoned in sick to training and has since been fined two weeks’ wages worth £650,000 and dropped from the squad for one match.
But now club hero Lee Sharpe is worried that Rashford’s heart might be elsewhere.
Sharpe told Lucky Block: “I think only Marcus Rashford knows what’s going on with his United career.
“It’s difficult for him because he’s ‘Mr Manchester United’ at the moment, but his performances this season compared to last year are like chalk and cheese.

“He needs to want to help his team and try and reach those levels of last season; if he isn’t, then he may have had his head turned.
“There may be something on the inside that we don’t know about which is making him that 4-5 per cent unhappier at the club.
    Marcus Rashford downward spiral
“In which case, he needs to leave and be replaced by someone who is 100 per cent behind the team and the manager. Only Marcus Rashford can really answer that question.”
PSG are in the market for a new attacker following reports that Mbappe, 25, will depart at the end of the season.
The sensational Frenchman is set to join Real Madrid once his contract expires in the summer.
Los Blancos are supposedly confident they can get the deal done as Mbappe is open to reducing his £62million-a-year wages.
He is set to earn more than Jude Bellingham’s entire transfer fee with his Madrid signing-on bonus.
It’s also understood Mbappe rejected at least one world-record £259m offer from Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.

And visitors to first-team training at Carrington these last few weeks might have noticed another surprise link with the Dons.
That’s because veteran former Aberdeen keeper Joe Lewis has been training with Erik ten Hag’s star-studded side.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Lewis has been sporadically involved in Manchester United first-team training since joining up with the club to maintain fitness in December.
They claim that he asked one of the United coaches about coming in to train – with the 36-year-old taking part in training this week as the Old Trafford men prepared for the clash with Aston Villa.

With those who played against West Ham excused the session, Lewis took part in the session with back up keeper Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton.
It’s thought United will sign another goalkeeper next season, with the 37-year-old Heaton approaching the end of the new one-year extension he signed in June.
Lewis joined the Dons from Fulham in 2016 and went on to make 271 appearances for the club during his seven year stint.

The teenager has been on their radar since his stunning winner in the Danish champions’ 4-3 group stage win over the Red Devils in November.
Roony Bardghji kept his composure to fire the loose ball into the back of the net, giving Andre Onana no chance.
And that prompted a superb rendition of “Roony, Roony” around the 38,000-seater stadium – in a clear and brutal jibe at United and their record goalscorer Wayne Rooney.
And the winger didn’t disappoint the United spy in the stands at the Algarve Stadium on Monday, volleying home his side’s late consolation goal in a 2-1 defeat to Brondby after a lively display.

Bardghji burst onto the scene with Copenhagen in 2021, making his senior debut just six days on from his 16th birthday and scoring his first goal for the club a week later.
The Sweden Under-21 international, who was born in Kuwait City and played football with his Man Utd-mad dad from the age of three, has struck 11 times already this season.
The youngster’s price tag has soared to around £17million with Copenhagen likely to demand a record fee for the Danish Superliga this summer.
His Copenhagen career overlapped briefly with United striker Rasmus Hojlund’s time at the club.
