Watch Mike Tyson interviewed by Diego Maradona on football icon’s bizarre Argentina TV show

MIKE TYSON was interviewed by late football great Diego Maradona on his Argentine TV show in 2005.
Iron Mike, 54, was a guest on Maradona’s chat show La Noche del 10 in Argentina 15 years ago, five months after his previous fight.

Iron Mike gave the footballing great a brief boxing lesson

He taught the superstar how to punch and hoisted him aloft in his arms in bizarre scenes.
Tyson steps back into the ring for the first time since his defeat to Kevin McBride in 2005, tonight against Roy Jones Jr.
The pair have a combined age of 105 but will contest an eight-round exhibition at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Tyson weighted in LIGHTER than his 1986 world title win aged 20 and said he will come ‘running right at’ Jones.

The year Tyson became heavyweight champ also brought Maradona to the fore with the World Cup in Mexico where he infamously scored the ‘Hand of God’ goal as well as a sublime solo effort against England in the quarter-finals.
Maradona died of a heart attack on Wednesday aged 60 at his home on the outskirts of Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires.
His death came two weeks after surgery following a bleed on his brain and he had long battled with his health.
Tyson paid tribute to the late Maradona and said: “The Hand of God, Maradona has left us. In 86 we both won our championships.

“They use to compare the two of us. He was one of my hero’s and a friend. I respected him so much. He will be greatly missed.”

The pair struck up a bond after first meeting on the TV show – which Maradona hosted for one season – and both came from poor backgrounds.
On the season finale, Maradona asked Tyson what was going on in his life and the boxer replied: “I’m very happy. My life has always been a roller coaster, but I’m happy.
“Today I was in the neighbourhood you were born [La Boca] and I think we come from similar places, we have a lot in common.”
Tyson – born into the then crime-ridden Brownsville area of Brooklyn, New York in 1966 – ironically also announced he was DONE with fighting.
He added: “I won’t keep on fighting. It’s just like your thing. You’ve played for a long time. I have fought for 26 years now and I’ve lost desire.
“Bouts are not that hard, but training [sessions] really are. And if you don’t do it the way you’re supposed to do it, then you can’t be successful.”
Maradona praised his interviewee and said: “Tyson is a legend. The greatest boxer there ever was. That’s why we worship you so much.”

Tyson and Maradona shared similar upbringingsCredit: AFP – GettyTyson was also emphatic in his praise of the Argentine maestro, saying: “I admire you and respect you very much, because you have been the king of your sport. That’s why I’m so happy to be here.”
Things took a weird turn when the two eccentric characters got chatting about life.
Tyson said: “I’m not a bad person. I just want to do what I want to do. I don’t know, if I want to have sex on the table I do it.
“I don’t know exactly what I want from life, it’s all very confusing. I just know I worry about the people I care for.”
Maradona handed Tyson a signed Argentina shirt – something he did for all his guests – before receiving some priceless tips on the punch bag.
The late superstar began his popular run as host with old rival Pele and had former Cuban leader Fidel Castro as well as Tyson’s fellow boxer Roberto Duran on.

“He’s the bigger guy, he’s the explosive guy. He’s going to have all the first-round fireworks, not me.

Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr exhibition fight rules: Knockouts, rounds, minutes and how to win – bizarre rules explained

MIKE TYSON and Roy Jones Jr face off in an intriguing exhibition fight this weekend.
But what are the rules for the boxing spectacle? Is a knockout allowed and how many minutes will the rounds be?

Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr do battle this weekend
What are the rules for Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr?

With a combined age of 105, Tyson and Jones Jr do battle in Los Angeles on Saturday night.
They will fight over eight, two minute rounds, and will be wearing larger 12oz gloves.
The fighters will not be wearing headgear.
Men’s boxing bouts usually run over three minute rounds and both stars have expressed their dismay at the shorter rounds.

Jones Jr said: “I’m not happy at all.

“Like [Tyson] said, that’s for women. I kept fighting until the last minute, saying, ‘Why we fighting two-minute rounds?’ I don’t understand that. We’re not women. We’re two of the best to ever do it.
“Why we got to do two-minute rounds? Why? If something’s going to happen, it’s going to happen anyway … two minutes, three minutes, five minutes. Don’t really matter.
“So, for us, what difference does it make? Two minutes doesn’t do anything for him or for me. To be honest with you, it cheats the fans out of it.”

In addition, the California State Commission have said that if either boxer is cut or injured the fight will be stopped, though it remains to be seen if referee Ray Corona will choose to halt it.

Referee Ray Corona will be the man in the middle
The World Boxing Council have created the WBC Frontline Battle Belt to give to the winner, and have former WBC champs Christy Martin, Vinny Pazienza and Chad Dawson scoring the fight remotely should it go all eight rounds for the organisation to decide a victor.
    Is a knockout allowed?
Technically yes, although the legends have been urged NOT to go for a K.O.
The California State Commission have deemed it a bout for the greats to “exhibit” their boxing skills.
UFC boss Dana White was flabbergasted after hearing the rule, saying: “There’s no knockouts? They’re not allowed to knock each other out? How do you enforce that?
Both fighters have said they are gunning for a K.O on Saturday night, and it will come down to the referee’s discretion to step in if he sees fit.

    What have they said?
Andy Foster, California State Commission executive director: “It’s an exhibition.
“They can exhibit their boxing skills, but I don’t want them using their best efforts to hurt each other.
“They’re going to spar hard, but they shouldn’t be going for a knockout. This isn’t a record-book type of fight. This is not world-championship boxing right now. It’s not what this is. People shouldn’t be getting knocked out.
“The public can see what kind of shape Roy and Mike are still in.

Mike Tyson’s incredible bodyweight workout routine
“I’m sure there are going to be times where it heats up. Ray’s [Corona, referee] job is going to be to put the ice back on without having to kill the whole thing. He’s that kind of referee. I feel that he’s going to be good at that, and he’s the right guy for this kind of a fight.”
Jones Jr: “First of all, if you think you are going into the ring with Mike Tyson, the last guy [Corey Sanders] that did an ‘exhibition’ with Mike [in 2006] got dropped in the first round.
“If you don’t know that, then something is wrong with you. Who goes into the ring with the great, legendary Mike Tyson and thinks, ‘Oh, this is going to be an exhibition?’ 12-ounce gloves? No headgear? Really? This is an exhibition? Come on, man. Be for real’.”
When is Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr?
The fight is set for Saturday, November 28.
The undercard is expected to start at 9pm ET which is 1am GMT and the main event will follow at around 4am – 5am GMT.
LA’s Staples Center plays host with no fans in attendance.
Who is on the Tyson vs Jones Jr undercard?
YouTube star Jake Paul leads the way on the four-fight card when he takes on ex-NBA star Nate Robinson.
Elsewhere Hasim Rahman Jr has stepped in after KSI’s trainer Viddal Riley pulled out.
    Main card
Tyson vs Jones Jr (8 x 2min rounds, heavyweight exhibition)
Jake Paul vs Nate Robinson (6 x 3min, cruiserweight)
    Badou Jack vs Blake McKernan (8 x 3min, light-heavy)

Mike Tyson says becoming real life ‘Tiger King’ brought him regret and reveals owning THREE white tigers was a mistake

MIKE TYSON revealed his regret over owning three big tigers as pets admitting it was “foolish, they’d kill you”.
The white Bengal tigers – which reportedly cost £48,000 each – became an infamous part of Tyson’s character, with the American having three pet jungle cats.

But, now aged 54, the former ‘baddest man of the planet’ told American rapper Fat Joe that owning the pet cats was naive because of how dangerous they were.
As the two discussed the new Netflix documentary ‘Tiger King’, Tyson said on Instagram live: “I was foolish. There’s no way you can domesticate these cats 100 per cent.
“There’s no way that’s going to happen. They’ll kill you by accident, especially when you’re playing rough with them, you’re punching them back. They get hyped up, hit you back and you’re dead.
“I’m just happy I educated myself. I was doing the wrong s***. I shouldn’t have had them in my house, believing they were domesticated. I was wrong.”

In the same conversation, the boxing legend recalled how he once had to pay a trespasser £200,000 after one of his Bengal tigers “f***** up” her hand so badly.
Tyson said: “Somebody jumped over my fence where the tiger was and started playing with the tiger.
“The tiger didn’t know the lady so it was a bad accident. She jumped into the property where the tiger was.

I was foolish. There’s no way you can domesticate these cats 100 per cent… they’ll kill you by accident, especially when you’re playing rough with them, you’re punching them back. They get hyped up, hit you back and you’re dead.
Tyson on his regrets at owning pet tigers

“They tried to [sue] until they found out she jumped over the fence and she trespassed with the tiger.

“When I saw what the tiger did to her hand, I had a lot of money back then, so I gave her $250,000 (£200,000) whatever it was because she was just f***** up.”
Tyson decided to buy the outlandish pets after sparking up a conversation with a car dealer during his three-year prison sentence, for a 1992 sexual assault conviction.
He said on the Joe Rogan podcast: “So I’m in prison, I’m talking to my car dealer at the time.
“He has some cars that belong to a [mutual friend], and he’s discussing, ‘If he doesn’t pay for these cars, I’m going to sell these cars to somebody and get some horses.’
“I said, ‘What, you can get horses? And trade horses in for cars?’ Because I had a lot of cars, I’d probably get some horses too. And he said, ‘Yeah man, you can get cougars, lions, tigers.’

“I said, ‘You do? Can you get me some tigers?’
“The guy said, ‘Imagine how cool that would be?’ Because I had a bunch of fancy cars, ‘Imagine that man, you’d be in an Aston Martin or a Ferrari. You’d have a tiger right next to you, man. That’s be so awesome.’
“And I’m a young guy. I’m saying to myself, ‘Wow, that would be cool. Get me some cubs, man.’”
