CHELSEA failed to lift their FA Cup final hangover despite the best efforts of Reece James and Hakim Ziyech in a 1-1 draw with Leicester.The Blues defence was caught out in the sixth minute with several players at fault as James Maddison smashed in from outside the box.

But Thomas Tuchel’s side bossed proceedings from then on, enjoying 70 per cent possession.
Trevoh Chalobah came close when he let fly from long-range before a moment of James genius unlocked the Foxes’ defence.
Marcos Alonso grabbed the equaliser but despite peppering Kasper Schmeichel’s goal in the second half Chelsea were unable to find a winner.
N’Golo Kante underwhelmed and was taken off in the second half with Ziyech Chelsea’s livewire.

The draw does more or less guarantee third place for Chelsea however, with an almighty goal difference swing needed for Tottenham to finish about them now.

Edouard Mendy – 5
Goal came at his near post but Maddison’s powerful finish was a thing of beauty.
Other than that he had very little to do with Brendan Rodger’s side not offering much in attack.

Reece James – 8
Created Chelsea’s equaliser with a great vision and a delightful chip for Marcos Alonso to fire in.
Was as solid as ever in defence too but did not offer enough going forward – even when he was played higher up the pitch after N’Golo Kante went off.
Trevoh Chalobah – 7
Almost levelled the match shortly after the Foxes goal with a long-range screamer that Schmeichel tipped over brilliantly.
Tidy in possession and untroubled by either Jamie Vardy or Kelechi Iheanacho – could be a regular starter next season if he continues to improve.
Thiago Silva – 5
Will not be happy with his defending for the goal as he was far too slow to stop Maddison, who took the ball round the Brazilian before firing in.
Had a great chance to atone on the half-hour mark but headed James’ cross over when in acres of space.
Antonio Rudiger – 6
Will feel he could have done better with the goal but he was unfortunate that his block landed in the path of Maddison, who was clinical.
He kept Vardy quiet however to ensure he will end his Chelsea career on a high.
Marcos Alonso – 7
Caught out for Leicester’s goal by a long ball from goalkeeper Schmeichel.
Redeemed himself by smashing in an equaliser in the 34th minute, catching James’ chip sweetly on the volley.
N’Golo Kante – 4
He was caught on the ball on a number of occasions and looked a little fatigued throughout – a long season catching up with him.
Was rightly substituted in the second half for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who arguably should have started instead given Leicester looked to play on the counter attack.
Jorginho – 6
Chelsea dominated possession from start to finish and everything went through the Italian, though he did frustrate the crowd by opting for the safer pass too often.
Needed to find that penetrating pass with Leicester sitting so deep but it did not come.
Hakim Ziyech – 7
Had an early shot that whistled just past the post and was Chelsea’s main attacking threat throughout.
Was the most energetic of the bunch after missing the FA Cup final but his final ball let him down, as did his finishing.
Christian Pulisic – 5
Struggled to get into the game after playing 106 minutes in the cup final on Saturday.
Tried to get onto the ball by playing more centrally in the second half, and it almost paid off when he met Romelu Lukaku’s low cross, yet somehow failed to score from seven yards out.
Romelu Lukaku – 7
Had a first-half opportunity but took far too long to shoot when played in on goal behind the defence – much to the frustration of Tuchel.
Good hold up play throughout and was a presence up-front but missed the target with a free header following an expert Ziyech cross.
Subs
Cesar Azpilicueta (for Pulisic, 72′) – 6
Was brought on to allow James to roam forward and he also looked to put pressure on the Leicester backline, but to no avail.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (for Kante, 72′) – 6
Provided more energy in midfield but did not make a difference in the attacking final third, which is what Chelsea needed from him.
Kai Havertz (for Lukaku, 77′) – 6
Did not have enough time to catch up with the speed of the game and Chelsea got worse after he came on.

But Hammers keeper Lukasz Fabianski will be the toast of Merseyside following his 85th-minute penalty save to keep Liverpool’s hopes alive.
City can still wrap it up with victory at home to Aston Villa on the final day of the season.
But anything less than three points could now open the door to Jurgen Klopp’s mentality monsters.
And the way this fight for the crown has been going in recent weeks you shouldn’t rule anything out.

But Pep Guardiola should be relieved to still be in the driving seat after watching his team fall behind to two first-half goals from Jarrod Bowen.
And though they showed plenty of character of their own to stage a dramatic fightback, they will still have cause to bitterly regret Riyad Mahrez’s failure to convert that late penalty opportunity.
Guardiola must have thought his team were over the line when ref Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot after being advised by VAR to take another look at Craig Dawson’s challenge on Gabriel Jesus.
But Mahrez’s effort was at just the right height for Fabianksi to throw himself to his left and beat the ball away.

So now it all depends on how quickly Liverpool can recover from Saturday’s FA Cup final exertions as they look to keep their Quadruple dream alive at Southampton on Tuesday.
But it’s not only City and Liverpool who still have it all to play for on the final day.
For if West Ham can win their final match of the season at Brighton and Manchester United lose at Crystal Palace, they can still snatch sixth place and a return to the Europa League.
And even if they have to settle for a place in the Europa Conference League, no-one can take anything away from David Moyes’ men after their sterling efforts this season.
This was certainly a fitting London Stadium send-off for retiring club captain Mark Noble, playing his final home game for the club after 18 years of unstinting service.
And whatever he does in the future is unlikely to match the thrill of Premier League football at its most captivating.
For this was a game which could have quite easily gone either way after Dawson missed a decent opportunity to head West Ham into a fourth-minute lead .
But after that it seemed to be only a matter of time before City turned their possession into goals.
Kevin De Bruyne’s deflected shot was headed just wide by Aymeric Laporte and Kurt Zouma was fortunate to get away with kicking the back of Gabriel Jesus’ standing leg as he tried to turn on a bouncing ball in the six-yard box.
Strangely enough, nobody from City appealed for a foul but it probably would have been a penalty if it had gone to VAR.
Jack Grealish was inches away from capitalising on Fabianski’s failure to hold a De Bruyne cross.
And Dawson was even more relieved when he stuck a boot out to block Rodri’s low shot from the edge of the box and saw his deflection flying just over his own bar.
Fernandinho’s piledriver brushed the bar as it whistled past Fabianski and another Laporte long-range effort was just as close as the visitors queued up to pepper the Hammers goal.
But try as they might, City were unable to force the breakthrough they desperately needed as West Ham somehow stood firm.
And Guardiola’s worst fears became a reality when his team were caught by a 24th-minute sucker punch which left them wondering what had hit them.
Fabianski’s punt upfield was nodded away by Laporte but hooked straight back over the City defence by Pablo Fornals to send Bowen haring in on goal.
It looked as though the England wannabe had been forced too wide as he took the ball around the advancing Ederson, but he squeezed his shot home from the tightest of angles despite the best efforts of Laporte to recover.
It was the first time since their February defeat by Spurs that City had been behind in a Premier League match.
But the expected response to that surprise setback didn’t materialise and in the final minute of the first half they fell further behind to leave themselves with a mountain to climb.
Once again it all started with a Fabianski kick, this time flicked on by Tomas Soucek and then by Michail Antonio.
And once again it was Bowen’s perfectly timed run which allowed him to race clear of City’s makeshift defence before coolly slotting home from the edge of the area.
That was Bowen’s 18th goal of this remarkable season, the first West Ham player to reach that figure since Teddy Sheringham all the way back in 2005.
And Hammers fans will be wondering what more he needs to do get the call-up from Gareth Southgate.
City, though, are not Champions for nothing and within four minutes of the restart they had reduced the arrears when Grealish finally beat Fabianski with another deflection off Dawson.
That was the signal for a ferocious onslaught from a team desperate to keep the destiny of this title race in their own hands.
But that left them wide open to being caught on the counter again and they were lucky to escape when Fernandnho’s dreadful 65th-minute back-pass presented Antonio with a free run on goal.
But the striker made a complete mess of his ambitious attempt to chip Ederson and his effort dropped horribly wide of the target.
It was a huge let-off for City and within four minutes they fully capitalised on their good fortune to secure the equaliser.
Yet again it needed a huge helping hand from their opponents as Vladimir Coufal hurled himself at Riyad Mahrez’s free-kick into the mixer but could only succeed in heading the ball into his own net.

One of Arteta’s first acts on being appointed Gunners boss in December 2019 was to recall Nketiah from an underwhelming loan spell at Leeds.
The England Under-21 international hadn’t been getting the games at Elland Road that Arsenal expected and Arteta decided he would be better served returning to the Emirates to continue his development.
But it is only now that Nketiah is getting a regular run in the starting line-up. And with his contract due to expire at the end of next month, there’s a fair chance that he will be leaving as a free agent.
It was Nketiah’s two-goal contribution to the 4-2 win at Chelsea which sparked the recent Arsenal revival which has left them within touching distance of a top four finish.
