Watch Matteo Berrettini go wild for Italy at Wembley with girlfriend Ajla Tomljanovic hours after losing Wimbledon final

MATTEO BERRETTINI was left disappointed after being beaten by Novak Djokovic in four sets in yesterday’s Wimbledon final. But after a 13 mile jaunt north to Wembley Stadium, the Italian was in dreamland by the end of the day.
Matteo Berrettini was jubilant as Italy won the shootout
Wimbledon quarter-finalist Tomljanovic filmed her boyfriend’s reaction
Berrettini, 25, lost 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 to Djokovic in his first Grand Slam final – finishing a little before 6pm.
After his media commitments were done, he and girlfriend Ajla Tomljanovic – who herself reached the quarter-finals of The Championships last week by beating Emma Raducanu – raced off to Wembley for the football.
Following his defeat, Berrettini had said: “I had a really great run during the two weeks, so I couldn’t ask for more… but maybe a little bit more!”
And he was almost immediately granted his wish, as Italy came from behind to beat England on penalties in a tense Euro 2020 final.
The world No8 was put through the ringer during the nerve-shredding match, with Tomljanovic sharing some of his emotional moments on her Instagram story.
He experienced the highs and lows, before ultimate jubilation as Gianluigi Donnarumma saved Bukayo Saka’s penalty to win it.
The Aussie had shown Berrettini nervously bouncing up and down before giving her a big hug.
As he put his arm around her, he said: “Don’t make fun of me!”

Berrettini’s emotions veered in each direction as the drama unfolded.
And as Donnarumma made his vital save, Berrettini let his full emotions out.
The 6ft 5in star, who had played 3h 27m of gruelling tennis earlier in the day, jumped up and down and screamed to the heavens in triumph.
He then even got to go on the pitch after the game, taking part in an interview alongside Donnarumma.
Berrettini is now set for a fortnight off, before jetting out to Tokyo to represent Italy in the Olympics.
Tomljanovic, 28, is also set to take part in the Games in Japan for Australia.

Extra Bank Holiday for England’s Euro 2020 success RULED OUT after crushing defeat to Italy

AN extra Bank Holiday for England’s Euro 2020 success has been ruled out after the crushing defeat to Italy. The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said Downing St was looking “to identify a suitable way for the PM to thank the players and coaching staff for their efforts, but a bank holiday isn’t something that’s being considered”.

Boris Johnson was last week considering creating a footie Bank Holiday in August if England stormed to victory in the Euros.
The Sun learned officials were already drawing up proposals for a national day off so fans could celebrate a potential Three Lions triumph free from hated Covid restrictions.
However, that has now been ruled out.
Any parade had also been expected to be delayed until after Freedom Day on July 19 so supporters could join their heroes free from curbs on crowds.
It came after a whopping 300,000 footie-mad Brits signed a petition calling for a bank holiday if England beat Italy.
Heartbroken Brits are now calling for a Bank Holiday to mourn England’s defeat in the final.
The petition for the Prime Minister to give the UK a national day off passed 360,000 signatures after being launched just days ago.
Three Lions fans want a day of mourning after being left distraught when the curse of the penalty shootout struck again.

The devastating defeat set social media alive with questions about the fate of the day of rest.
“Yeah, about that bank holiday…,” one fan wrote.

Another tweeted: “We still get our bank holiday though, right?”
One anguished supporter added: “We need a bank holiday to mourn.”
The petition for a Bank Holiday was organised by Lee Jones, who argued it was “beneficial and sensible” to give the country the day off, before it gained nationwide support.

Jordan Pickford says ‘no problem’ before saving Jorginho penalty as sessions with ‘calming’ psychologist pay off

THIS is the moment Jordan Pickford told himself ‘no problem’… before spectacularly SAVING Jorginho’s penalty. The England keeper may have been on the losing side after Italy won the Euro 2020 shootout, but he can leave with his head held high.

Pickford saved two Italy penalties – one of which ended Jorginho’s 100 per cent record with his national team.
Had the Chelsea midfielder scored, Italy would have triumphed then and there in the shoot-out, but Pickford was having none of it.
The Everton stopper, who revealed he started seeing a psychologist at the start of the season, was caught on camera geeing himself up.
He then proceeded to make a terrific save down low to his right to deny Jorginho.
In the end Pickford’s heroics were in vain as after Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho had missed their attempts, Bukayo Saka saw his penalty saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
But Euro 2020 was a brilliant tournament for Pickford who collected the Golden Glove award
The 27-year-old kept five clean sheets during the tournament, two more than Italian stopper Donnarumma.
Pickford picked up the award after stopping Croatia, Scotland, Czech Republic, Germany and Ukraine from scoring.

He conceded just two goals during the tournament, the first being Denmark star Mikkel Damsgaard’s stunning free-kick in the semi-final.
His stellar summer also saw him break the England record for most minutes without conceding.
He went 725 minutes without letting one in, surpassing Gordon Banks’ tally of 720 minutes – set during the World Cup in 1966.
Pickford was in excellent form for England this summer
Speaking about seeing a psychologist, Pickford told The Telegraph: “I just feel in a very good place.
“I began working with a psychologist at the start of the season.
“You know in football, those little one or two per cent gains — just to raise your ability on the pitch and what you can achieve — are crucial.
“Whether it’s nutrition, psychology, extra gym sessions. I think it helps. So why not use it?”

He told Sport1: “I like Kroos a lot, he put in some world-class performances and was great at Bayern, but his style of play is outdated.
“We are 1-0 down against England in the last quarter of an hour, Kroos no longer crossed the halfway line.
“He played sideways, then sideways again, until the opposing defence had organised themselves.
“Bayern players are super self-confident guys who had a big say with Hansi Flick.
I like Kroos a lot, he put in some world-class performances and was great at Bayern, but his style of play is outdated.Uli Hoeness
“I know they were totally unhappy with the situation, with Low’s tactics. Yet they accepted it. I don’t understand, I didn’t know them like that.
‘They should have said, ‘Toni Kroos no longer fits into this football with his sideways game. Our football is played vertically. The ball is played forward all the time’.”
Hoeness’ comments caught the attention of Kroos who took to social media to hit back.
He tweeted: “Uli Hoeness is a man with great knowledge of football (even if it wasn’t enough for RTL), little interest in polemics and completely at peace with himself. Similar to his groundskeeper.”

The final part of Kroos’ tweet referred to remarks Hoeness made about Lothar Matthaus back in 2002.
Hoeness, 69, insisted World Cup winner Matthaus would never return to Bayern as long as he was in charge, even as a groundskeeper.
Kroos later quote-tweeted a post that showed he had completed the most passes in the final third earlier in the tournament with a caption: “Uli H can’t like that.”

Leyton Orient ban fan for three years following reports of racist abuse after England’s Euro 2020 final heartbreak

LEYTON ORIENT have banned a fan for racially abusing England players online after the penalty shoot-out defeat to Italy.Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford have been subjected to abuse from vile trolls after each missing a spot-kick.
Gareth Southgate consoles Bukayo Saka after his penalty miss
Jadon Sancho was also devastated after Gianluigi Donnarumma saved his attempt
The FA has issued a statement to condemn the abusers but Orient have gone one step further by issuing a three-year ban to one individual.
Orient explained they were made aware of the person’s comments on Twitter late on Sunday before quickly deciding to ban them.
The club re-asserted their zero-tolerance approach to racial abuse and discrimination while declaring how proud they are of the club’s diverse history.
It is a history that includes club icon Laurie Cunningham, the first black player to represent an England national team.
However, Orient did decide to refund the supporter’s season ticket for the upcoming season.
But the League Two side have acted following the words of condemnation from Gareth Southgate, Prince William and Boris Johnson.
Southgate told a news conference this morning: “It’s just not what we stand for.
“We have been a beacon of light in bringing people together in people being able to relate to the national team, and the national team stands for everybody, and so that togetherness has to continue.
“We have shown the power our country has when it does come together and has that energy and positivity together.”

Prince William added: “The Duke of Cambridge, who serves as president of The FA, tweeted: “I am sickened by the racist abuse aimed at England players after last night’s match.
“It is totally unacceptable that players have to endure this abhorrent behaviour.
“It must stop now and all those involved should be held accountable. W.”
Boris also lamented the abuse, saying: “This England team deserve to be lauded as heroes, not racially abused on social media.
“Those responsible for this appalling abuse should be ashamed of themselves.”

But after thousands poured onto the streets, celebrations in Naples soon descended into mayhem and left the city’s ambulance service overwhelmed.
Amidst the violence, a police officer had to be rushed to hospital after being shot in the stomach.
He has undergone surgery at the Vecchio Pellegrini hospital, and his life is not thought to be in danger, reports Napoli Today.
Another person was also reportedly shot and several people stabbed.
Dr Manuel Ruggiero, who lives in Naples, said fans in the city went over the top with celebrations.
“There are celebrations and those of yesterday were an exaggeration.
“This morning our beloved city looked like the silhouette of a woman on the ground after she suffered violence – bottles, fireworks, shards of glass and paper everywhere.
“It was legitimate to celebrate, it was legitimate to rejoice after months of lockdown, but as always it is our custom to overdo it.”
    WEMBLEY SHOWDOWN
The violent scenes erupted in Naples after Italy clinched the win over England at last night’s nail-biting Euro 2020 final at Wembley.
The game finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, with Leonardo Bonucci cancelling out Luke Shaw’s opener that had given the Three Lions an early lead.
It went to penalties after neither team managed to get ahead in extra-time, and while England keeper Jordan Pickford saved two, Gareth Southgate’s squad missed three – giving Italy the win.
Italy stars Jorginho and Leonardo Bonucci wasted little time in trolling England as Giorgio Chiellini wore a crown to their parade.
The Azzurri pair could not resist jibes at the Three Lions after their victory.
And veteran Chiellini, Italy’s rock at the back throughout the tournament, delighted fans with his added attire as the country flew back home.

The Juventus defender donned a crown as he emerged from the team bus clutching the Euro trophy with his medal around his neck.
The 34-year-old, who scored Italy’s equaliser in the match, looked into the camera and screamed “it’s coming to Rome” after the shootout.
He then went on to celebrate with his international team mates after winning the Azzurri’s second European title.

Italy’s celebrations continued long into the night with captain Georginio Chiellini sleeping with the trophy and his winner’s medal.
He was also pictured laying down in bed alongside defensive partner Leonardo Bonucci with the trophy separating the duo.
The Italians also wildly celebrated inside the Wembley dressing room.
