Christian Eriksen will wear Denmark kit to watch Belgium game from hospital bed… and tell pals how to stop Romelu Lukaku

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN will pull on his Denmark shirt on Thursday to cheer them on against Belgium from his hospital bed.And Danes boss Kasper Hjulmand revealed the stricken star has also been giving him tips on how to stop his Inter Milan team-mate Romelu Lukaku.
Christian Eriksen will be wearing his Denmark shirt for their clash against BelgiumCredit: AFP
The star can see the Parken Stadium from his Copenhagen hospital bed
Eriksen, 29, is still recovering in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest and collapsing on the pitch during Denmark’s Euros opener with Finland.
He is based in the Rigshospitalet — just a ten-minute walk from the Parken Stadium where the Danes return on Thursday.
Hjulmand said: “Christian will watch the game. It is really crazy.
“The hospital is right next to Parken and when he looks out of his window he will see it and probably hear everything.
“That is crazy for Christian but he will be in his shirt and watch the game on TV.”
Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Finland — which was restarted later that same evening following a 90-minute delay after Eriksen’s first-half collapse — means Denmark need a result from their last two group games to have a chance of reaching the last 16.
Before playing Russia on Monday, they face the daunting task of taking on a star-studded Belgian outfit.
Striker Lukaku has hit the ground running in the competition by bagging two goals in their opening 3-0 win over Russia.

Christian Eriksen’s life was saved by the fast reactions of team-mates and medics

And Hjulmand has been asking Eriksen for advice on how to thwart his Inter pal.
Hjulmand added: “It is not easy to stop Lukaku but we have been talking about him.
“He is one of the best strikers out there right now and when he does his things he is very difficult to stop.
“It is easier to stop balls going into him than stopping Lukaku with the ball.”
Meanwhile, Lukaku has revealed the Belgium players will kick the ball out of play in the 10th minute of the game so the stadium can pay tribute to Eriksen with a minute’s applause.
The fans at Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium are planning a loud ovation for Eriksen in the 10th minute of the Euro 2020 game because the midfielder wears the No. 10 shirt for Denmark.
Lukaku has now revealed that both teams will stop playing to join in the tribute.

Cristiano Ronaldo used to down fizzy drink for breakfast despite Coca-Cola snub at Euro 2020 press conference

COCA-Cola remover Cristiano Ronaldo used to down fizzy drinks for breakfast, it was revealed today.Ronaldo, 36, wiped £3.4billion off the value of Coke by casting aside two bottles at a Euro 2020 press conference.
Coca-Cola remover Cristiano Ronaldo used to down fizzy drinks for breakfast, it was revealed today
He then urged fans after scoring two in Portugal’s 3-0 win in Hungary: “Drink water.”
But his ex-Man United teammate Ryan Giggs revealed earlier this year he once had a heated row with Ronaldo over his love of soft drinks.
Fellow team-mate and now-Reds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed angry Giggs pinned him against a wall over it.
Giggs, when quizzed about the incident, replied: “Maybe. I don’t know if I pinned him.

Ronaldo fans were left baffled by his snub having previously endorsed the company
“I might have told him, ‘We don’t do this’ and then he went and scored a hat-trick! ‘I drink what I want, Giggsy!’”
However he is thought to have followed Giggs’ suggestion, and his actions on Tuesday evening sent Euro 2020 sponsor Coke’s share price crashing by 1.6 per cent.
It was followed hours later by another sponsor snub — as France’s Paul Pogba removed a Heineken bottle positioned directly in front of him at his press conference.

He picked up the bottle – which was a no-alcohol version – and put it out of sight after a man-of-the-match role in France’s 1-0 win over Germany in Munich on Tuesday night.
Fans were left disgusted with tournament staff.

One raged: “He’s a Muslim. Why put beer in front of him? Sponsors must be rational.”
Another tweeted: “Quite understandable that, as a Muslim, Pogba wouldn’t want to be seen promoting beer.”

Suspected car bomb is found near the Stadio Olimpico before Italy’s Euro 2020 game with Switzerland

WEDNESDAY night’s EURO 2020 game between Italy and Switzerland was thrown into doubt after authorities were alerted to a suspected CAR BOMB near the Stadio Olimpico. The device was reported to Police at around 6pm, just hours before the Euro 2020 Group A game kicked off.

According to Corriere dello Sport, authorities were called to the Piazza Mancini area after a report of a suspicious object inside a parked car.
Several roads were quickly blocked off to allow operations where a bomb squad carried out a controlled explosion.
Police have not yet officially confirmed whether the item was indeed a bomb, but have said it appeared to be homemade.
Later in the evening, the Rome-based Il Messaggero newspaper reported that the device consisted of a cylinder of gunpower, with shrapnel embedded and electric wires.
Investigators determined the car belonged to Marco Andrea Doria, who is the president of the board for the redevelopment of parks and historic villas in Rome.
Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi noted the seriousness of the situation, writing on Twitter that she was in “solidarity” with Doria as the investigation continues.

The report of the object was initially spotted by a fan – just one of many who were gathering ahead of the 8pm kick off between Italy and Switzerland.
The hosts had headed into the game having beaten Turkey 3-0 on opening night, and they looked just as impressive on their second outing as they swatted aside the Swiss by the same margin.
Sassualo midfielder, Manuel Locatelli, scored twice – first by tapping in from Domenico Berardi’s darting run before fizzing a strike from the edge of the box.
Forward Ciro Immobile’s late third then sealed the win as his long-range drive squirmed under Yann Sommer.

Earlier in the day, Wales earnt their first win of the competition after they beat Turkey 2-0 in Baku.
Despite a missed penalty from talisman Gareth Bale, the Welsh found the net via Aaron Ramsey and Connor Roberts as they took a huge step towards the knockout stages.

    RAMBO SPEAKS
Juventus midfielder Ramsey admits that he was relieved to score after missing two big chances beforehand.
Speaking to the BBC, he said: “I felt a bit of relief, I had two chances before to score but that first half today was superb, we really dominated.
“Second half we showed great character and I think we thoroughly deserved the win.
“The penalty was a big moment but we didn’t panic, we didn’t leave anything out there, and we worked hard from each other.
“We’ve given ourselves a brilliant opportunity now, we’ve got another big game to go, we are in a good position now.
“I’ve got a few [Juventus] team mates playing for Italy so it will be nice for me out there, but I’m representing my country now and we will do everything to win that game.”
    HERO ROBERTS
Goal hero Roberts was buzzing after scoring the goal that sealed the win.
Speaking to the BBC, he said: “That’s the best moment of my career that will probably never be matched.
“To be playing in a major competition is the pinnacle for me, and to almost seal us through to the next stage is incredible.
“Today is a massive step towards that, we have a massive game on Sunday, but it has done us no harm winning today.
“They [Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale] are world class players, we know what we expect from them, Gareth said he was sorry for missing the penalty but without them I don’t think we win tonight.
“We are a young group but we have resilience, people who will run until the last minute and we did that tonight.
“Chris Mepham had told me not to go forward for that corner! But that’s just what I do, it’s an incredible feeling.”
    BALE SPEAKS
Welsh captain Bale spoke to the BBC after the game: “I’m absolutely delighted with the win, we fought hard, worked our socks off, yes I missed a penalty but I feel I showed good character to keep going.
“That second goal at the end was the icing on the cake.
“Aaron [Ramsey] got in a few times, we’ve always linked up well, it was important to get the victory today.
“You’d like to think that [four points] would be enough, we will have to wait and see, if you’d offered us four points at the start we would have bitten your hand off.
“Playing in front of no fans is difficult, the fans were fantastic, I know most were Turkish but the Welsh fans were great too. It helped get your adrenaline going.
“We want to thank the fans at home too who I’m sure will be cheering in their millions.”

    HAVE YOUR SAY

    FT: TURKEY 0-2 WALES
    WOW!
Wales have done it again. They’re pretty much into the knockout stages of the Euros.
Every man played their part. The defence, in particular, deserve a lot of praise.
They were rock solid and put their bodies on the line to get the result.
But it was Bale’s brilliance in attack which played a major role in the win. Leading by example.
He set up Ramsey’s goal in the first half.
And in the 95th minute he wasn’t quite done with Turkey. He received the ball short from a corner and dribbled away from a couple of Turkish players close to the byline – before squaring it to Roberts.
And the defender planted the ball into the back of the net to seal the win.
Turkey dark horses? You’re having a laugh. They’ll need more than a miracle to make it through to the knockout stages.
They have minus-five goal difference and they have zero points on the board.
The lowest Wales can finish is third, but they have four points on the board and favourable goal difference.
Portugal – 2016 winners – didn’t win a group game but went through as one of the best third-placed teams on three points.
Wales can finish third and comfortably go through, without a doubt.

Turkey 0 Wales 2: Ramsey and Roberts put Dragons on brink of KO stages despite Bale’s penalty shocker in fiery clash

NEVER mind ‘Welcome to Hell’ – Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale once again combined to put Wales into heaven.  The Dragons had been promised a hostile welcome with more than 25,000 Turkish fans making it feel like a ‘home’ game here in Azerbaijan.

Gareth Bale roars with delight, having set up both Wales goals either side of missing a penaltyCredit: Getty
Aaron Ramsey was the key man for Wales against Turkey
But skipper Bale said it would only give them extra motivation – and how right he was.
He and Ramsey – so often the saviours of their country – turned on the style with the Juventus man once again pivotal.
His goal here from Bale’s pass – and a late strike from Connor Roberts – will surely see Rob Page’s men take their place in the last 16 later this month.
And this will go down alongside the heroics of Euro 2016 as one of the great nights for Welsh football history.
The only surprise was they did not win by more against a team tipped as a dark horse before the tournament started – with Bale skying a pen and Ramsey wasting several clear chances.
There was a sign of what was to come early on as the Real Madrid’s men pass sent Ramsey away and he turned Caglar Soyuncu neatly but was denied by Ugurcan Cakir.
Kieffer Moore was screaming for a cross and maybe the Juventus man could have been more unselfish.

The giant Cardiff forward then got on the end of a cross by Dan James but could only land his header onto the roof of the net.
Then another cute pass by Bale sent Ramsey clear again as he sprang the offside trap but blasted his effort high over the bar.
Turkey then had their best spell of the game with Kaan Ayhan seeing a header nodded off the line by Joe Morrell.
But they had not heeded the warnings from earlier and just before the break Bale once again opened them up with a glorious left-footed pass.
Once again Ramsey timed his run perfectly and this time he chested down before beating Cakir emphatically.
What a moment for Wales – and no more than they deserved.
    Royal Ascot special 🏇🎩

Their two superstars did not really turn up against Switzerland – but they turned on the style in the first half here.
Turkey improved after the break with star man Burak Yilmaz volleying his effort high over the bar after the ball had bobbled around in the box.
Gareth Bale was on the ball all over the pitch for Wales
Ramsey saw a shot on the turn pushed away by Cakir and the Juventus man must have been feeling he could have had the match ball.
But the next huge chance fell to Bale who was clipped in the box by Zeki Celik to win a penalty and grabbed the ball himself.
The skipper blazed his effort high over the bar in the sort of Wales penalty more often seen at the Principality Stadium in the Six Nations.

Ramsey tried to repay the favour by clipping over a cross that found the head of Bale but Cakir got down well to save.
Danny Ward was called upon to make a big save late on as he pushed away a header from Merih Demiral but in truth a point would have flattered the Turks.
And the points were safe in stoppage time when Bale wriggled free from a short corner and pulled back for Connor Roberts to steer home.

England’s arrogance could play into Scotland’s hands in crunch Euro 2020 showdown, says ex-star Kevin Gallacher

KEVIN GALLACHER believes England’s arrogance could lead to an epic Scotland victory at Wembley on Friday. The Three Lions kicked off their Euro 2020 campaign with a victory as Raheem Sterling scored the only goal of the game against Croatia on Sunday.

But it was bitter disappointment for the Auld Enemy 24 hours later as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat to Czech Republic at Hampden to leave them in dire need of picking up something against Gareth Southgate’s men in their second group game.
Gallacher, an ex-Blackburn and Newcastle striker who won 53 caps for Scotland, played for his country 25 years ago when they suffered a 2-0 loss to England at Wembley in Euro 96.
But the 54-year-old believes Steve Clarke’s side could be in for a much greater result this time around.
Gallacher told BETDAQ: “England will believe that they can go and walk all over Scotland.
“I think that’s the way that their players will approach it. They’ll think, ‘This will be easy, it’s only Scotland.’
“Living down in England, it’s almost like sometimes they belittle the Scottish players playing in the Scottish league.
“We’ve got a few players now playing in the Premier League and they’re playing regularly.
“For me, in Scotland-England games, form goes out the window. It’s who wants it more.”

    Royal Ascot special 🏇🎩

Gallacher continued: “We’ve seen that not so long ago in 2017 when Scotland played England, and unfortunately Harry Kane scored right after a couple of Leigh Griffiths free-kicks, it was 2-2 at Hampden.
“You’re looking at games like that… Nobody would have ever gone for 2-2 at Hampden and that’s the way it ended.
“These things happen in Scotland-England matches. And again, I hope England are thinking that they can walk all over Scotland, and hopefully that’ll do Scotland some favours.”
Gallacher added: “Scotland need to believe in themselves.
“We’re hardworking, we play together. We’re not individual world-class players.
“We are a very good squad side that when we’re all playing together, we can win together.
“Steve Clarke has got that in the players, a belief that it’s a team.”

But viewers were left wincing as replays revealed it struck the Swansea defender directly in the crown jewels.
Turkey players protested for a penalty – only to be told by the referee exactly where it hit Roberts.
One Twitter user posted: “Can you feel a gif?”

One tweeted: “Right in the cardiff and swanseas.”

The block from man of the moment Roberts proved decisive as Wales held out for a 2-0 lead.
He and Juventus’ Aaron Ramsey were on the scoresheet, as they remained unbeaten in the tournament, following their opening game draw with Switzerland.
Wales travel to Rome on Sunday to play Italy knowing they are almost home and hosed for the last 16.
Gareth Bale, who spent the season on loan at Tottenham from Real Madrid, played a cross field pass Ramsey, who opened the scoring on 42 minutes.
Bale later missed a penalty in the second half, which would have put the result beyond doubt.
But he helped set up Roberts after a short corner saw him dribble into the box and set it on a plate.
Wales’ resilient defending also helped them go top of their group with a first win of the delayed European Championships.

Ronaldo, 36, then declared to those watching to ‘Drink water,’ which caused a £2.84billion drop in the company’s share price.
Speaking last year, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner revealed his disdain for Coke after saying his son Cristiano Jr sometimes consumes fizzy drinks.
He said: “We’ll see if my son will become a great footballer.
“Sometimes he drinks coke and eats crisps and it irritates me, he knows that.”
But supporters of Ronaldo have been left confused by his Coke snub after digging up pictures and old videos of him endorsing the brand.
And the former Manchester United hero has even worked with fast food giants KFC and McDonald’s in recent years.
His former Old Trafford team-mate Wayne Rooney previously declared Ronaldo would gorge on Big Macs in an attempt to gain weight during his time in England.
Commenting on Ronaldo’s Coke incident, boxer Josh Warrington quipped: “We’ve all contradicted ourselves before haven’t we…?”

Another messaged: “He’s a father now. He needs to be their role-model and eat/drink healthily.”

Bookmakers Paddy Power tweeted: “Cristiano Ronaldo removed bottles of Coca-Cola during a #Euro2020 press conference, encouraging people to drink water instead.
“Fair play. Doesn’t mind big buckets of fried chicken, though.”
To which KFC jokingly replied by saying: “Yeah Paddy, but everyone knows Ronaldo’s decent on the wings.”
Uefa has since issued a statement in response to CR7’s actions, saying “everyone is entitled to their drink preferences” and that everyone has different “tastes and needs”.
A spokesperson added: “Players are offered water, alongside Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, on arrival at our press conferences.”
