Christian Eriksen will wear Denmark kit to watch Belgium game from hospital bed… and tell pals how to stop Romelu Lukaku

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN will pull on his Denmark shirt on Thursday to cheer them on against Belgium from his hospital bed.

And Danes boss Kasper Hjulmand revealed the stricken star has also been giving him tips on how to stop his Inter Milan team-mate Romelu Lukaku.

Eriksen, 29, is still recovering in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest and collapsing on the pitch during Denmark’s Euros opener with Finland.

He is based in the Rigshospitalet — just a ten-minute walk from the Parken Stadium where the Danes return on Thursday.

Hjulmand said: “Christian will watch the game. It is really crazy.

“The hospital is right next to Parken and when he looks out of his window he will see it and probably hear everything.

“That is crazy for Christian but he will be in his shirt and watch the game on TV.”

Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Finland — which was restarted later that same evening following a 90-minute delay after Eriksen’s first-half collapse — means Denmark need a result from their last two group games to have a chance of reaching the last 16.

Before playing Russia on Monday, they face the daunting task of taking on a star-studded Belgian outfit.

Striker Lukaku has hit the ground running in the competition by bagging two goals in their opening 3-0 win over Russia.

And Hjulmand has been asking Eriksen for advice on how to thwart his Inter pal.

Hjulmand added: “It is not easy to stop Lukaku but we have been talking about him.

“He is one of the best strikers out there right now and when he does his things he is very difficult to stop.

“It is easier to stop balls going into him than stopping Lukaku with the ball.”

Meanwhile, Lukaku has revealed the Belgium players will kick the ball out of play in the 10th minute of the game so the stadium can pay tribute to Eriksen with a minute’s applause.

The fans at Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium are planning a loud ovation for Eriksen in the 10th minute of the Euro 2020 game because the midfielder wears the No. 10 shirt for Denmark.

Lukaku has now revealed that both teams will stop playing to join in the tribute.
