      Mason Greenwood quizzed over ‘threats to kill’ & sexual assault after Man Utd striker arrested on more offences

      MASON Greenwood is tonight being quizzed on suspicion of making threats to kill and sexual assault after being arrested for more offences.The Man United striker, 20, has so far spent two nights in a police cell after cops swooped over the rape and GBH claims on Sunday morning.

      And now, police have been granted further time to speak to Greenwood after his two additional arrests for sexual assault and threats to kill.
      Greater Manchester Police confirmed they now have until tomorrow to quiz the striker.
      A statement from the force read: “Detectives have been granted further additional time to speak to a man in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman.
      “The suspect was detained in custody on Sunday afternoon after we became aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.
      “Following enquiries so far, he has since been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

      Greenwood was suspended indefinitely from Utd hours after cops swooped on his home in Bowdon, Greater Manchester, on Sunday.
      And in a statement tonight, the club said: “Manchester United reiterates its strong condemnation of violence of any kind.
      “As previously communicated, Mason Greenwood will not train with, or play for, the club until further notice.”
      Security staff – thought to have been provided by his club – were present at a second home he owns nearby and they confirmed his parents were inside.
      Earlier today, Greenwood was removed from Manchester United’s squad on FIFA 22 after his arrest.
      Greenwood has also been removed from the Manchester United squad list on the game, after the club removed any merchandise with his name on from their website.
      The club’s official partner Cadbury said Greenwood won’t appear on any of their marketing products.
      Sponsor TeamViewer also announced that they are “closely monitoring developments”.
      Sportswear giant Nike, which provides the striker’s boots, have suspended their sponsorship with the star.
      The brand said in a statement: “We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood.
      “We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.”

      Greenwood has worn Nike boots since breaking into United’s first team in 2019.
      He has been suspended indefinitely by his club after being arrested.
      Several of his teammates have also unfollowed the star on social media after the images came to light.
      The Premier League club initially said it did “not condone violence of any kind” and later suspended the £75,000-a-week star as a police probe was launched.
      A spokesman for the club said: “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”
      The images and allegations were reportedly visible on the woman’s Instagram on Sunday morning, but have since been deleted.

      In an update to the game, which was released on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, Greenwood does not appear on the offline modes.
      He is still available to use on the FIFA Ultimate Team game mode however and can still be traded on the game mode’s transfer market.

      A spokesman for the club said: “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”
      Last night the Manchester United Supporters Trust tweeted: “The club has now confirmed that Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice. MUST fully support the decision of the club in this regard.”
      The images and allegations were reportedly visible on the woman’s Instagram on Sunday morning, but have since been deleted.
      A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Police were made aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.
      “An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. 
      “He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing.”
      Nazir Afzal, former Chief Crown Prosecutor, tweeted on Sunday: “These allegations need to be investigated quickly.”
      Greenwood joined Manchester United at the age of six and progressed through the academy ranks.

      Criminals are using the phishing techniques fine-tuned during the pandemic to tempt refs to throw European clashes.
      The memo, which was sent to the FA and other governing bodies, warns: “The corrupters made use of cyber-crime tactics not previously seen in reported corrupter messages, possibly pointing to a bleed-over in tactics from more sophisticated groups or even the potential for collaboration with such groups.”
      It talks of “incidents in which a suspected match-fixer attempted to recruit referees to manipulate matches via social media”.
      It reads: “This evolution may have been accelerated by the Covid lockdown, during which cyber criminals both diversified and intensified their criminal activities, according to Europol.”
      The memo adds: “We assess corrupters will likely continue to attempt contact with players, referees and other officials via social media and the use of more sophisticated messages, including personalised content and manipulation techniques.”
      The messages are understood to have originated from Asian crime gangs and were sent in English — but it’s not thought British refs were targeted.

      It’s claimed Barton, who was then managing Fleetwood, battered Stendel in the tunnel after a Barnsley win.
      Stendel was left with facial injuries after the alleged bust-up.
      Ex-Premier League star Barton, of Widnes in Cheshire, was said to be furious after seeing one of his players sent off in a 4-2 defeat.
      His BMW was stopped from leaving the ground by a police officer and a steward after the reported row.
      He was later arrested after Barnsley complained to South Yorkshire Police.
      Barton appeared in court on Friday, when jurors were picked for the trial.
      He is back in the dock as the hearing begins at Sheffield Crown Court today.
      The fracas was initially sparked after Fleetwood’s Harry Souttar was sent off midway through the second half.
      Barton was allegedly furious that German manager Stendel had got involved and chased him down the tunnel at the full-time whistle.
      The two managers were reportedly seen ‘squaring up to each other’ on the touchline at the final whistle, with Stendel waving his finger at Barton.
      BARTON ON TRIAL
      Barton then shook hands with Barnsley staff and the match officials before racing off up the tunnel where the alleged brawl took place, it’s claimed.
      The former midfielder played more than 250 Premier League games for Newcastle United, Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers.
      He began managing League One side Fleetwood Town in 2018, before moving to Bristol Rovers in February this year, shortly before the club were relegated to League Two.
      Barton started his football career with Manchester City in 2002 after going through their youth system and went on to make 150 appearances for the club.

      He then moved to Newcastle United in a £5.8million transfer in July 2007 before leaving for Queens Park Rangers in August 2011.
      The midfielder was then put on loan to French side Marseille during the 2012-13 season before making his way to Burnley for one season – helping promote them to the Premier League.

      The fracas was initially sparked after Fleetwood’s Harry Souttar was sent off midway through the second half.
      Barton was furious that German manager Stendel had got involved and chased him down the tunnel at the full-time whistle.
      The two managers were seen squaring up to each other on the touchline at the final whistle, with Stendel waving his finger at Barton.
      Barton then shook hands with Barnsley staff and the match officials before racing off up the tunnel where the alleged brawl took place.

      The former midfielder played more than 250 Premier League games for Newcastle United, Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers.
      He began managing League One side Fleetwood Town in 2018, before moving to Bristol Rovers in February this year, shortly before the club were relegated to League Two.
      Barton started his football career with Manchester City in 2002 after going through their youth system and went on to make 150 appearances for the club.
      He then moved to Newcastle United in a £5.8million transfer in July 2007 before leaving for Queens Park Rangers in August 2011.

      The midfielder was then put on loan to French side Marseille during the 2012-13 season before making his way to Burnley for one season – helping promote them to the Premier League.

      Brighton star Yves Bissouma’s bail extended for five weeks after dramatic nightclub arrest

      PREMIER League ace Yves Bissouma today had his bail extended for another five weeks following his dramatic nightclub arrest.The in-form Brighton midfielder, 25, was led away in handcuffs by uniformed cops in the early hours of October 6 after he was detained on suspicion of assault.

      Shocked revellers at The Arch, on the seafront in Brighton, told how they saw Bissouma being marched out of a packed nightclub in handcuffs by police officers.
      The Man Utd and Liverpool target spent a night in the cells with a pal in his 40s.
      The pair were bailed until today.
      But Sussex Police confirmed they’ve extended the date as investigations continue.
      A spokesperson said: “The bail date for both individuals has been extended to Monday, December 6 while investigations continue.
      “No further information is available at this time.”
      Bissouma, a likely big-money target in the upcoming January transfer window, was filmed by revellers during his arrest at 2am.
      An insider said: “The club was packed — it was a popular student night, especially with freshers in town.
      STAR BAILED AGAIN
      “People were starstruck to see Bissouma in the club — he’s Brighton’s best player at the moment, so he definitely caught some eyes.
      “They were even more shocked to see him later being led away in handcuffs outside the club.
      “People were absolutely stunned by what was going on.
      “The next thing we knew, two police officers were taking him away in cuffs. I couldn’t believe it.”
      Brighton said at the time of £45,000-a-week Bissouma’s arrest: “Brighton & Hove Albion are aware that one of its players is assisting police with the investigation of an alleged offence.
      “The matter is subject to a legal process and the club is therefore unable to make further comment at this time.”
      The star has been one of Brighton’s top performers this year.
      He recently declared his aim to be the best in the top flight.
      SHOCK ARREST
      Asked who was the Premier League’s top midfielder, he told BBC One’s Football Focus: “I don’t want to be arrogant, but it’s me because in my head I am working to be the best. So I cannot say another name.
      “I know in the Premier League there are so many good midfielders, but for me, it’s me because that gives me the confidence and the energy to work hard to show people I am here and I am Bissouma.”
      The player — born in the Ivory Coast but now a Mali international — signed for the Seagulls from French side Lille in 2018 for a reported £15million.
      He scored his first goal for the club against Bournemouth in the FA Cup third round in 2019. Bissouma has since attracted the attentions of a clutch of Big Six clubs with a string of impressive performances.
      One against Everton last season had Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher raving he was “the best player by a mile on the pitch”. He added: “You looked at him and he really does look like a top-quality player.”
      Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has called him an “exceptional footballer”.
      Among his highlights was a 30-yard strike he netted against Everton in October 2020, which won him the club’s Goal of the Month award.

      Brighton had to fight tooth and nail to keep him over the summer amid fierce interest, and he started this season equally strongly before picking up a knee injury.
      He has been tipped to leave the club when the January transfer window opens.
