Romeo Lavia ‘set to earn surprising Chelsea salary’ as new Todd Boehly transfer strategy revealed

ROMEO LAVIA is set to be on the lower end of Chelsea’s highest earners when he completes his move. The midfielder has snubbed Liverpool in favour of a move to the Blues, who have agreed a £58million transfer with Southampton.
Romeo Lavia has agreed a move to ChelseaCredit: Rex
It is set to take Todd Boehly’s Stamford Bridge spending to almost £1BILLION since replacing Roman Abramovich in May 2022.
The American has twice smashed the Premier League record transfer fee, spending £107m on Enzo Fernandez and then £115m for Moises Caicedo.
But according to The Athletic, Boehly is introducing a new wage system.
It will see younger players offered lower base salaries with performance incentive bonuses.

They say James Ward-Prowse – who has signed for West Ham – will be on higher wages than Lavia.
Chelsea’s summer of spending does not appear to be coming to an end.
The West Londoners have activated the £35m release clause in Michael Olise’s Crystal Palace contract.
The French Under-21 international has been linked with Manchester City and Arsenal.

But the Blues were the first to make a move for the forward, who spent time with Chelsea’s youth setup as a youngster.
Olise is currently out with a hamstring injury sustained during the U21 European Championship.
It could sideline him until the end of September.

How would Chelsea transfer affect assist master Michael Olise’s Dream Team viability?

CHELSEA continue to splash the cash on new recruits.Having agreed a deal for Moises Caicedo (£2.5m) that could ultimately cost them a British record fee of £115million, the Blues are reportedly close to signing Michael Olise (£3m) from Crystal Palace.
A future Chelsea great?Credit: DREAM TEAM
The west London club have supposedly activated the France youth international’s £35million release clause, which represents relatively good value in comparison to Todd Boehly’s previous transfer dealings.
This proposed transfer is an intriguing one but how will it affect Olise’s Dream Team viability?
The first thing to note is that the 21-year-old is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury that required surgery.
No right-minded Dream Team manager is going to select an injured player regardless of the club they represent.
But it’s never too early for gaffers to consider future strategies, especially ones bursting with potential.
Olise has been a key player for Palace since 2021Credit: GETTY
Olise is an electric talent who was named the Eagles’ Players’ Player of the Season in 2022/23.
Goals have been sparse for Palace but his creative output has been immense, from open play and set-pieces.
The ex-Reading starlet provided 11 assists in the Premier League last term, a tally bettered by just three players: Leandro Trossard (£3m), Mohamed Salah (£7m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£7m).
    Most read in Dream Team
Olise’s great strengths are his crossing and passing but he’s also got the necessary skills to dribble past defenders.
Playing predominantly from the right flank, he combined seamlessly with Eberechi Eze (£3m) at the back end of the last season upon Roy Hodgson’s return to Selhurst Park, propelling Palace away from the relegation scrap with some stylish performances.

Six goals in 71 games for the Eagles is something of a concern but Olise is very much still a developing player – there’s plenty of time for him to add goals to his game.
And Mauricio Pochettino may be the perfect man to encourage such a progression as the Argentine tactician is considered an excellent coach of young players.
Olise’s Dream Team juice is not to be underestimated, only Jack Grealish (£4.5m) would have earned more bonus points last season had the new scoring system been implemented.
Pochettino has a record of developing young playersCredit: Alamy
Assuming his move to Stamford Bridge goes through, how will Olise fit into Chelsea’s plans?
Pochettino opted for a 3-4-3 formation from the off against Liverpool in Gameweek 1.
Olise would surely play as one of two wide forwards, positions occupied by Raheem Sterling (£3.5m) and Carney Chukwuemeka (£1.5m) on Sunday.
The Blues endured a fairly miserable campaign in 2022/23 but they more than held their own against Jurgen Klopp’s side, with Enzo Fernandez (£3m) in particular showing the high standards expected of Chelsea.
Adding Olise’s creative output to a team that should be more dominate than Palace over the course of a season could be a recipe for healthy Dream Team returns.

Fans joke Chelsea are signing Ronald McDonald because Klopp likes Big Macs and come up with cheeky nickname for midfield

CHELSEA fans continue to mock Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool on social media. The Blues beat Liverpool to the signing of Moises Caicedo this week and are close to pipping them to Romeo Lavia’s signature.

As a result, Klopp and his side have been ridiculed by Chelsea supporters, who have come up with a new nickname for their midfield.
Using Lavia, Enzo Fernandez and Caicedo’s initials, the midfield trio have been dubbed “LFC” by fans.
The letters also spell out Liverpool’s abbreviated name, much to the amusement of Chelsea fans.
Liverpool had agreed a deal with Brighton for the signing of Caicedo last week before he snubbed them to join Chelsea for £115million.

Meanwhile, Klopp saw his side have multiple bids rejected for Lavia before Chelsea agreed a fee with Southampton.
Fernandez was also linked with a move to Anfield before joining Chelsea in January.
The pattern of players joining Chelsea over Liverpool has not gone unnoticed amongst supporters.
One fan tweeted: “Chelsea owns LFC whichever way you look at it.”

Another added: “Liverpool conquered to form our new ‘LFC’ midfield.”
A third fan even joked that Chelsea were expanding their habit of signing players Klopp was interested in.
They wrote: “Chelsea have agreed to sign Ronald McDonald for a club record fee after seeing Jurgen Klopp was considering buying a Big Mac and fries.”
Klopp and Liverpool have struggled in the transfer market this summer, making just two signings.
The club have also been slammed by pundits for missing out on several targets.
However, despite their woes, Klopp could not resist aiming a dig at Chelsea’s spending after their 1-1 draw on Sunday.
The impending arrival of Lavia is set to take their spending to almost a billion since Todd Boehly’s takeover.

I’m a former Premier League owner and I know exactly how Todd Boehly can spend nearly £1BILLION at Chelsea

FORMER Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has explained how Chelsea have spent nearly £1billion and still complied with financial fair play rules. The Blues are set to take their summer spending to more than £360m after wrapping up a deal for Moises Caicedo, with Romeo Lavia also set to follow.

Todd Boehly has continued to spend big this summerCredit: Reuters
It comes after Todd Boehly splashed £600m in his first year as owner on the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk.
Chelsea have offset some of their expenditure by getting rid of 11 first-team players, with the likes of Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic leaving for big sums.
Jordan, 55, explained those sales have helped cover the outgoings on the balance sheet, meaning Chelsea can continue targeting the likes of Michael Olise.
He also pointed out the fact Chelsea have spread the cost of the transfer fees over eight-year contracts in some cases – which the Prem is now set to ban.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Jordan said on talkSPORT: “They’ve spent £800million on players, they’ve spent £600million last year and capitalised that over eight years because all of those players were on eight-year contracts, so all of a sudden that £600million spend is averaging at £75million per year because you’re dividing £600million by eight.
“He’s [Boehly] now had that change because the football fraternity has said ‘you can’t do that over eight years’, so they’ve rolled it back to five years.
“This year’s spend will be £300million, or round about that, and that’ll be reducing to £60million per year – so he’s now losing £75million each year for last year’s spend, plus £60million this year, but he’s gone and sold £250million worth of players in three transfer windows and all of those players have deduced an outcome that is profitable to Chelsea.
“He sold Kai Havertz for £60-odd-million after he bought him for £60million, but on his balance sheet at the time he sold Havertz he was carrying him at £25million so he sold him at £60million and booked a £35million profit.

“He sold Mason Mount who is an academy player for £60million, so he’s booked a £60million profit, so over the three windows he’s booked somewhere in the region of £200million worth of transfer gains on his balance sheet and he’s reducing it by £135million every year, so he’s £65million in credit right now on his balance sheet in terms of transfers. That’s how he’s doing it.
“If you’re depreciating that at £135million a year and you’ve just sold £250-£260million worth of players over three transfer windows with most of those players – with the exception of Timo Werner who was sold at breakeven – are booking you a profit, you’ve just covered the last 18 months worth of potential losses and going into next year as well.
“In 18 months’ time if Chelsea are still spending at this level and are still carrying that level of depreciation and haven’t balanced the books by selling more players and haven’t got into the Champions League then they’re going to get caught.” More

And they have also agreed a £50m move for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, who like Caicedo rejected Liverpool for West London.
Now according to Fabrizio Romano, Bournemouth have followed Chelsea in triggering Adams’ release clause.
It is claimed the Cherries are optimistic a deal gets done with the player keen on the move at this stage.

Adams has also been linked with Brighton, Aston Villa and Manchester United among others.
The USA international’s release clause kicked in due to Leeds’ relegation to the Championship.
Adams completed his move to Leeds from RB Leipzig just last season and made 26 appearances for the club.
Liverpool are also believed to be weighing up a move after seeing both Caicedo and Lavia favour Chelsea.
